Congrats Mike! You are taking DIY upgrades to the next level without leaving the rest of us behind! There shouldn’t be a price on learning. Thanks for sharing!
Ha! Thanks Kelly... as you noticed, I excel at learning what not to do. ha, ha... but, that's how we all learn the fastest. Thanks for the comment!
i know this video is 2 years old but when inserting a hose into an AN nut, rotate counterclockwise and it will walk itself into the nut. just forcing it in like that works but the nut is designed to have the hose "threaded" in. thats what those grooves on the inside of the nut are for. great video btw
Well... not exactly. While twisting AND pushing does help, those internal grooves are not threads, they're retaining grooves that hold the hose in. In my second version of this video, I added another step and that's to heat up the nut with a heat gun, while pushing/twisting the hose in. Thanks for the comment!
Excellent video! Thanks for the recommendation & information! 👍😎
Welcome! Hope it helps!
As long as you have been doing your videos you have gained all that experience. In fact you should have Pontiac running through your veins. So no need to be nervous , You got this.
Thanks John! We shall see!
I feel bad I haven't watched a video in a while. But I must say the videos are getting way better.
Ha! Thanks JT... welcome back.
Just a tip in the event you experience overheating under aggressive driving. Many older cars had springs inside that hose to prevent the hose from collapse when pulling really hard at high RPM. I had this exact problem on my 72 cuda. Nice work on the video man! Sweet goat too!
Totally agree, Jason. Thanks for adding the tip. Yeah, a collapsed hose does no good. ha, ha... thanks for the compliment, and the comment!
Looks great!!! Looks like you forgot to lube the the split bushing behind the rubber seal!
Thanks! I need to lube it? LOL
Thanks for pointing out Autoplumb. I have a weird motor swap and was looking to upgrade to AN lines because they look a lot better than my home-made set up that is difficult to get to seal perfectly all the time. This is a much better way to do it.
Awesome! Glad I could help... have fun!
Life saver. Helped me with my turbo ls
Awesome!
This is so rad! I have to do this to my car
Ha! Thanks Bryce!
Awesome job looking great
Thanks Gerald!
Great Great Great....I just order my NA fitting from autoplum never heard of it thanks to the guy that is sharing this video... p.s I need it the radiator hose and I'm doing NA fitting all over my chevy Nova 77
Great to hear! I love AN fittings... as you can tell from my video. ha, ha... have fun!
Looks beautiful Mike. Excited for you bud. Get her fired up and on the road!
Thanks Brother! Me too!
Awesome 👌🏾😎 well done.thanks for sharing. I think I'll be converting alot of my fittings on mustang to an fittings. ❤ the clean look
Ha! Yup! AN Fittings are addictive!
You’re awesome man thank you
Welcome! Thanks for the comment!
Worth the time 👍🏾👍🏾
Ha! yeah, I love it! Thanks.
Great information Mike, can’t wait to hear it run
Thanks Bill... me too!
So basically weld them instead 🤣 good work
All about learning, right?
@@FastMontyyou did good, I was contemplating doing something like that but I worry about space.
@@Twistedzlone Yeah, I hear you... It took me a couple times to get the hose length perfect. Have fun!
Great DIY Mike!! I'd like to tackle this upgrade on the Tempest someday. May start with the upper first as I'm thinking it may be easier. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thanks Johnny, yeah the Top hose is way easier. But, definitely use the hose cutting tricks in this video, as I didn't know about the Heating of the Hose trick in my top hose video. And of course, reach out if you ever have any questions. See you soon!
Thanks for the video....I checked out the website and will be doing this on my next build!
Awesome! Glad I could pass along some design ideas... have fun!
Very nice demonstration and install! Looks very clean. You gave me an idea for my GTO. I love the weld on option.
Thanks Brother! Glad I could inspire some more ideas for your GOAT! Can't wait to see it back on the road.
I have to say i am impressed on your effort! maybe Butler or kaufman would take on the timing cover AN fitting as an option i think its great! keep the good work up
Ha! Thanks Steven... I especially love the heater hose fitting.
always cut the video at the difficult part and make it look easy 17:48 and 19:20
Ha! 10 minutes of me swearing doesn't help anyone. In both instances I said It's not going to be easy. Thanks!
Do you have to worry about the hose collapsing in on the lower radiator hose? My lower hose has a spring in it.
Nope, it's much more sturdy than a standard hose.
Nice work. I am trying to emulate your work. I have a 69 firebird with copper radiator that is kind of weepy. Looking for a top quality radiator to replace it. Any recommendations?
Awesome Brett... yeah, Cold Case, or Be Cool. either one. Obviously I highly recommend Dual Electric Fans. have fun!
I was wondering how you planned on sealing the orb fitting for the heater hose neck on the timing cover, the oring needs a tapered seat to seal?
Thanks John, that's a fantastic question. If I'm not mistaken, the ORB O-Ring just needs a flat surface. BUT, I could be wrong... Luckily, I didn't go down that path to find out. ha, ha... Next time I take apart one of my other O-Ring fittings, I'll have to pay attention to that mating surface. Thanks for pointing that out!
i hope you have solid motor mounts, if not wont the rocking of the motor rip that apart over time?
Good question.. I do have "stiff" mounts, but there is some compliance with the hose, and joint. No worries for me. Great point.
without welding while you weld both water pump fittings. The water pump end is my concern, I watched the top hose video and got hooked on the lower Idea. I have a custom polished aluminum tube for top. Will be on SBC mechanical aluminum pump. Did you go back and heat the top fittings to see if they compressed more?
Great question... No, I did not go back and re-do the top hose. But, my next video I'm changing the radiator hose, so yes, I'll be doing it correctly. Lol. Thanks for the awesome comment!
Are you using urethane engine mounts or a torque strap?
I would think when the engine moves/flexes that lower hose is going to break?
It's flexible. I think Autoplumb mentions you need a minimum of 6" of hose. I'd double check with them, if you're going to do this mod. Thanks.
Awesome work Mike, going to do this too. What did you use on the other end of the heater hose at the heater core on the firewall, just normal hose clamps?
Thanks Paul... you might have missed it, I just used a Hose Barb to - 10 AN fitting, to attach to the remaining hose. (My hose goes under the fender to the firewall, so, really tough to get at it) Thanks again!
Can you add part numbers for the pieces you welded to the timing chain cover ???
Good point Mark... The -20 is www.summitracing.com/parts/icb-an970-20a and the -10 is www.summitracing.com/parts/icb-an970-10a Thanks!
This is probably a dumb question, but I’m planning on buying these AN adapters for my coolant system and I’ve run into a dilemma.
The bottom pipe on my radiator measures 40 MM, or 1.575 Inches. Autoplumb’s nearest adapter says it will fit 1.525”-1.550”.
Do you think I can purchase that nearest size adapter and modify it to make it fit?
For some reason the next size up is 1.750”-1.774”, which seems way too large. Could I modify this one to make it fit?
Thanks in advance!
No such thing as dumb questions here... ummm, well, maybe there are. But, yours is not. Ha, ha... In my opinion, NO, you can not modify the next closest adapter. It's a very well toleranced machined piece, and I wouldn't modify it. That said, have you asked Autoplumb directly to see if they're going to release any new sizes? Keep us posted!
How were you able to weld the timing cover ???
What do you mean, how? With a TIG welder?
I have a Japanese car where would I find the size for my radiator?
Not sure... does that mean your radiator is plastic? Might have to do some measuring, then contact AutoPlumb to see if they have anything to help you out. Good luck!
Do these fittings work well under pressure or did they eventually leak
Still working great! Thanks.
Whos rad hose did you use. Was it AN20 ?
Yup, it's an AN20... all the part numbers are in the description. Have fun!
Mike what brand of head gaskets did you use and thickness?
Thanks
Random question... ha, ha... I'm using Butler Performance gaskets, which have a .045" crush height. butlerperformance.com/i-24453584-butler-performance-pontiac350-400-428-455-head-gasketset-2spm-19374-2.html?ref=search:https%3A%2F%2Fbutlerperformance.com%2Fsearch.html%3Fq%3Dhead%2Bgasket
Thank you another great and informative video, I'm having a hard time finding the black-20 an hose ,auto plumb only goes up to -16an where did you get your hose from?,thanks
Welcome, and thanks... I got it from AutoPlumb. Here's the link. autoplumb.com/collections/20-an-hose-by-the-foot/products/aeroflow-20an-black-nylon-stainless-steel-braided-hose
Hey bud hope everything is well question for you I have purchased the autoplumb adapters as well...... I have not installed mine yet how are they holding up are you satisfied with them
Yeah, man! They're holding up great... be sure to use the Heat Gun trick to get those hose ends screwed on all the way. Have fun!
@@FastMonty hey man thanks for responding back and thank you for the info can't wait to use mine....... have fun with your build
