Without spectators, ‘surprise’ fireworks brighten Tokyo night

Video footage taken on Aug. 22 shows fireworks being launched over the former site of Tokyo’s Tsukiji fish market. The “surprise fireworks” show lasted about 10 minutes and featured about 1,800 pyrotechnics in a display meant to drum up enthusiasm for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games postponed until next year. A video of the event was distributed on RUclips. The 23-hectare former fish market site will be used as a vehicle depot during the Olympics and Paralympics. (Video by Naoko Kawamura)
