l'm currently learning Russian. l'm in a very, very, VERY beginner level and listening to this feels like this: "Blahblahblah blahblah o'clock blahblahblah blahblah Russian. @I'm Illiterate l'm actually getting better (l didn't have much hope that l would), l started to listen to russian music and watch TV shows dubbed in Russian as well because this is exactly how l learned english when l was a teenager and l'm sure l could have fooled you into believing that english was my first language all along. XD

I love listening to Russian language . I don't understand Russian but It's really extraordinary. ❤they tell stories in a lovely way through their soft , calming language. Listening to Eropean languages like English, French , German , Dutch , Spanish or Italian is annoying. Russian, Farsi , Arabic and Hindi are musical when you listen to them .
you may try to read along, using the book. But honestly, Russian classics uses obsolete vocabulary and often constructions of sentences that are not used in every day speech. Try to start with adapted books (Russian classical literature adapted to foreingers, russian learners), there are books from publisher Златоуст/ Zlatoust.
There was a very strange feature in this case, strange because of its extremely rare occurrence. This man had once been brought to the scaffold in company with several others, and had had the sentence of death by shooting passed upon him for some political crime. Twenty minutes later he had been reprieved and some other punishment substituted; but the interval between the two sentences, twenty minutes, or at least a quarter of an hour, had been passed in the certainty that within a few minutes he must die. I was very anxious to hear him speak of his impressions during that dreadful time, and I several times inquired of him as to what he thought and felt. Ch.6 3:09:34 .... pastor and school teachers....it rings so true...regardless of a country....sad. We all be better of with The Idiot as a teacher. Every teacher should reread this chapter. Especially,if they only "read" it in high school.

Wish I knew enough Russian to understand this, though I might listen to it when trying to sleep. Maybe I should read the English version first so I know what's said, and then pick out words better that way (though learning more Russian grammar & vocabulary FIRST would be ideal.)
@itsasecret The novel translates to the title, “The Idiot” by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The reasoning behind the title is the protagonist of the novel is presumed an idiot and outcast by others due to his epilepsy, and therefore is misjudged by others as simple-minded and going nowhere in life. This misinterpretation conflicts politically, socially, and romantically throughout the novel, and the author, himself, incorporated his own historical background of suffering with seizures and being misjudged for his condition. Definitely give it a read if you have the chance. 👍
