I’m also glad that the TB logo doesn’t feature on accessories anymore. I think Burberry struggled with the logomania era and that TB was a sign of how lost they were. Exciting times are ahead for the brand and hopefully they will see the “commercial success” they seek.

I don't think Burberry is going to do any better under Daniel Lee.. but I could be wrong. I really liked the RTW that came out of Burberry under Ricardo Tisci. The Burberry Outlets always had most of the RTW at 50%-65% off retail. Beautiful Clothing 🙄💗

I might be the minority, but I hated what Daniel Lee did to bottega. As I gather he's pretty egoistic and uncompromising character, and while his new direction was a commercial (or shall I say social media) success, it alienated old fans by completely scrapping old lines and also undermined the identity as a craftsmanship forward brand.
The big basket weave might have looked cooler but requires less craftsmanship and loses its shape (as well as pencils and small objects) easily; shoes were often (especially that with telephone cord) logistical nightmare; Thier man's wear were notorious for structurally awkward in real life. I think there should be a good reason for him to get unceremoniously fired after mere 2-3 seasons despite making lots of money for the brand.
I hope he learned his lesson a bit, and does not repeat the same mistake for Burberry. It's too good a heritage brand to fuck up.

  • @a3zth3tikz
    @a3zth3tikz Год назад +5

    Here’s my take.
Tisci was a designer that was good at “creating” an identity and we saw that with Givenchy with the Rottweiler and Bambi and the Givenchy stars.
It was simply a matter of hiring the wrong person with Tisci at Burberry. Burberry already had a rich history and a very well-known identity with the iconic check, trench coats, and the EKD. Instead of banking on Burberry’s history, Tisci tried to add to that identity which was this young and hip image of the brand which didn’t really match with Burberry’s aesthetic.
Daniel Lee, however, seems to be a better fit. With his time in BV, it looks like he likes to take what the brand already known for and go from there. He took BV’s iconic weave and focused on growing that space.
Seeing his first collection where he brought the EKD back to life and had it front and centre and also banking on the iconic check and adding some British inside humour in the collection makes me think he’ll do a good job at Burberry.

I feel like to, for most people (me included) Burberry became synonymous with the trench coat and the recognizable scarfs, but that was it. It always seemed a bit old money yet also "boring," albeit in a "classic-style-this-is-beautiful" way. Now more than ever, people seem to either want to look "old money" or to express/differentiate themselves in the loudest possible way, so they'll have to decide to whom they'll cater...or, somehow, do both. Something tells me Daniel Lee might be able to pull off such a combination.

I see this as a promising start. When I was in my early 20’s (and yes I am 47) Burberry was the sexiest in outwear. And then it became “popular”. I agree that Burberry needs to lean into its British roots. Frankly, I would be pulling British actors from all backgrounds and do more with that. The Burberry instagram push was very well done.

I'm actually sad that there isn't anything really reminiscent of the classic burberry colors or print. I mean, that's what Burberry is known for, and when it's a heritage brand, it needs to be always paid homage. Like LV does, Gucci and Dior. Losing that is a shame,in my opinion. I remember seeing the TB bags and not knowing who they were 😅 and even feeling a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a lot of Nova check to be seen. I like what I see so far, I hope Burberry can get back to staple status again otherwise people like me seem very old and sentimental when reminiscing about the days when you wore your Burberry skirt to school on civies/dress down day 😂😂

New ring looks gorgeous! I will be very interested to see how Burberry evolves under new creative leadership. I hope it does well. Not a brand I would normally look to for RTW, but I have the requisite trench (it weighs a TON), and am always hopeful heritage brands stay enough near the edge to appeal to each new generation, yet remain classic enough for every taste and aesthetic to find a home. I’ve kept away from their handbags because, as you said, the logo is Tory Burch-ish, a brand I cannot stand for reasons that reveal me as a terrible snob and shall remain undisclosed in order to pretend I’m not. Have a magical weekend, love, and treat NYC to a bit of Cassie. ❤

That plaid is never going to get old to me. I always buy people Burberry scarves as gifts. It’s one of my classic gifts I’m known for. The almost orgasm I have when I see someone’s jacket below open and I see that pattern. I’m happy people are interested in Burberry again because that gives a brand I love a lot more longevity.

I am 💯% for Burberry, but it's a tough brand to work with. The heritage has always made Burberry consistent. How far do I want it to lean towards innovation, not sure? I wished luxury houses stayed in their lane. Does Burberry really need to do bags? How about instead of a hundred duds they just make one solid piece or leave bags to Hermes. I hope Lee takes what makes Burberry classic and elevates it.

I think Burberry wanted Ricardo Tisci to come in and “Balenciaga” everything. Yes, he worked for Givenchy but what I mean is that they expected Tisci to be able to slap the Burberry name on something and it sells; or, have something so iconic like his Bambi sweatshirt, etc. that it becomes this go to piece. I think Tisci came in trying to reinvent the wheel when it just needed an upgrade. Daniel Lee, in my opinion, is really good about finding the core of the brand. For Bottega, it was the weave and he played on that. For Burberry, it’s the history of the brand. Loved the Yorkshire/English Rose pattern, the check matching sets feel very modern but also feel kind of punk. I could see someone wearing a pair of Doc Martins with those pants. Burberry, forgive me, was trying to go so hard…it was giving me Michael Kors. I said it!!!!! I can see streetwear icons wearing the Daniel Lee collection; I can see Law Roach styling with this brand, I can see Dapper Dan maybe doing something with Burberry, Stormzy and Mel doing something with Burberry. This feel like the next evolution to heritage Burberry.

The thing that has put me off Burberry shoes in the past is they're made in China. If I'm spending luxury $$ I expect it to be made in the country of origin.

After working for them I feel the same way. Even wearing the clothes does not feel good anymore, thankfully there's eBay to sell my collection.

The quality of Burberry products - other than some of the outerwear (especially the Burberry Prorsum line in the era about 5-10 years ago - stylish and chic) - has just not been there. This is the biggest thing that turned me off of the brand. Just took out one of my old Burberry belts and the hardware is completely spotted and tarnished in a weird way that I’ve never seen with any of my other luxury items, for example. The handbags also suffer from the same inability to compete with the quality of other competitors’ products. For the accessories such as bags and shoes, I feel that they try to charge Gucci or LV range prices for quality that is similar or inferior to Coach or even Polene. I love my Burberry coats and jackets, but unless something revolutionary happens, that’s it for me.

Personally, I don’t find the clothes very appealing so far but I’m interested how they will evolve. I found the styling quite messy and it didn’t feel like luxury to me but who knows maybe the clothes feel and look expensive in really life

Mark my words ..the must have accessory a Burberry hot water bottle ..I really hope that Burberry can pull away from the rip off copy market which has turned many people off of the brand, me included.

I just hope that Daniel taps into Burberry's british heritage. Whilst I like his first runway show, it was a little too close to Westwood for me....

you would totally rock the mens pants! but don't get them tailored! the bagginess is what makes them really cool. Also, do you know anything about the intellectual property and contract clauses for these designers? I'm really curious what - if anything - designs can take from one house to the other.

I think the clothes are stunning. However, the accessories, especially bags that for most brands is the main source of income, are nothing exciting. i mean they are interesting but do not intrigue me or make me wanna buy them.

I'm kinda upset that Daniel has completely cleared of Ricardo's Burberry. I hope as he continues he features the monogram and the tb logo in his own taste. I think that would be amazing. I don't completely love Ricardo's Burberry but it has it's charms and those should be continued in some way
