This song is easily my favorite from the EP. It has this Evening Sun chorus feel and the riff from 3:34-End is...just so relaxing and clean. And Casablancas whispering in the back adds this mystic/hushed and relaxing feel.

I just discovered them a month or so ago and am still falling in love with them and with so much to fall in love with. Quarantine can be a blessing if you look for it.
Damn, Julian's lyrics get smarter and smarter as they continue...that whole intro is genius? It's a satirical interpretation of Western ideology.."fuck the rest..." but then it's like "Be right there honey." haha it's so American. Julian has reached that Lou Reed status with his lyrics projecting like the next great American novel in a song! WOW!
Julian's lyrics are a lot about relationships, like some have said about welcome to japan, this one is likely about him cheating. His side chick dont wanna fuck with him anymore so he's like "okay, well my wife is calling me anyways 'be right there honey!'"
Personally, I consider it the best of the three of this new EP. And probably because it has that nostalgic sound that characterized The Strokes of the first decade.
when you realized that future present past stands for the styles of the songs on the ep future: 1. drag queen (tyranny-esque type of a song) present: 2. oblivius (comedown machine mixed with angles) past: 3. threat of joy (sounds like their first two albums) it doesn't hurt either that the songs are in the exact order in the ep :))
I guess you're right and that's why I only like Threat of Joy from all these 3 songs. Not at all into the Drag Queen proposal, oblivius is acceptable but TOJ is a masterpiece, just like their first albums AND luckily The New Abnormal as well.
[Intro] Okay, I see how it is now You don't have time to play with me anymore That’s how it goes, I guess Fuck the rest Be right there, honey! [Verse 1] I’m gonna take my time to say Take my time today I’m gonna take what comes my way Take what they give me Yeah, I want my money now But he is not around You better hold my money safe What's your emergency? I’m going to watch the tidal wave It’s hard to chase away [Outro] Oh-ohh Oh-ohh Oh-ohh Oh-ohh (Got to chase away) (Hard to chase away) (It’s hard to chase away)
That's why it's called future present past. This song resembles is this it, past, oblivious resembles come down machine, present, and drag queen resembles Julian's most recent work with the voidz, future. At least I think that's what it is.
I LISTENED TO THIS BAND WHEN I WAS LITTLE AND I HEAR IT NOW AND I WAS LISTENING TO GOOD MUSIC WHEN I WAS 5!! DAMN thank you mom and dad for my immaculate taste in music
I’m in the exact situation as you lol my dad introduced me to the strokes when I was 5-6 and I’m still listening to them after all this time. I forgot about them for a few years but a few weeks ago I started becoming obsessed and now i listen to the strokes for like 5 hours (or more) per day (it’s an addiction 😭😭)
Aguante The Strokes!
This song is a ride to listen to. It takes the elements that made each of their albums sound different from one another, and mixed it into a beautiful journey of nostalgia from the days I first listened to The Strokes up to this very point in my life
The Strokes are completely underrated as a band. They have been consistently brilliant since their debut. I feel like, the day the break up (hopefully years from now), people will fully realize how great they are. A very needed voice/sound in modern rock.
The way the bass/voice/guitar just skip along together through the chorus is wonderful enough, but to have Julian's voice floating over the top of it is just *Chef's Kiss* And then they manage to top that with the outro, and you realise the song's been on repeat for a long while and you're still enjoying it. Yeah, it's bloody lovely.

Such a beautiful outro, I'd love an hour long loop of 03:32 - 04:22 to fall asleep to. It's so peaceful and soothing, bliss out. It brings up images in my mind of a gentle breeze blowing through leaves on tree at the edge of a beach whilst looking wistfully out to sea. 🏝 Thanks for that guys (not that they'll probably ever get to read this comment!) Some of his songs make my heart feel a certain way, I have no idea how to explain it, almost like butterflies but the way he sings some parts r just so beautiful
Honestly teared up listening to this song. The strokes have really hit us right in the heart just like is this it? And room on fire. Beautiful music 👌🏻

This band makes my life worth living. The sound you guys make it's the greatest touch of human expression i have ever encountered, truly amazing you impress me everytime. I truly love you guys.
I love them; they've captured happiness and relaxation and then they captured sadness or loneliness. Human Sadness by jc and the voidz is another perfect example as to emotion, that entire song is like going through the stages of sadness and makes you sad when you hear it. Love the strokes so much
Am I the only one who thinks and wants our favourite band to make one more album if not a single song we can all jam to together again? That's exactly what this song did. They can definitely do it. I'm not ready to say goodbye to THE STROKES 😔
For me this is the best song of the EP!! Anyway all the other songs are quite good, but this could find place in "Is this It". It reminds me a lot of "When it started"...
great song. i think this shows just how easy and natural it is for them to write songs like the "past", but they have evolved/matured/progressed. which is fine with me. if they had made 5 albums like 'is this it', then the original wouldn't be so special.
I heard this song at the beach walking with my girl the sunset it was get dark and all you see the moon it one of songs you wanna have a peaceful time with lovee it too death💕
This new Ep from the strokes feels really refreshing. They have been huge for us since the start and we're happy that they're still making amazing music. The Strokes have inspired and motivated us to start our own band and write our own music. You should listen to our latest singles from our upcoming album. You won't regret it.
I've read somewhere that you guys actually read the comments. if you guys come across this comment I just wanna say thank you. thanks for being our favorite band and the great memories you've helped us create with your music. Thank You Strokes. Greatest Band Ever
Nice. Such a laid back sound. I've dug The Strokes since I first heard them, and this almost feels like a bit of a throwback. I like it a lot. I can definitely see myself tearing up the back roads while this plays. Thanks for so much great driving music, guys!
Oh man the Intro of this song (0:01-0:29) is probably the *best* one I've ever heard. It perfectly builds up the suspense. The rhythm is superb and the song shines in the parts where it's used again. Even tho the song is still the best in the EP, unfortunately it doesn't live up to that sublime intro imo. It's a shame because it feels it could have been one of their greatest songs if not the best...
They seriously are one of the most consistent rock bands I've ever listened to. There's not an album I don't enjoy
This is a truly wonderful tune pure fucking class as for that middle eight its peerless and the outro is matchless 'fuck the rest' indeed Julian
they never changed lineup, i'm sure there is something to do with that.
And every album it's a totaly different experience.
@@dermot51 The outro is orgazmic to steal a phrase commonly used to describe this outro already. And fuck the rest if they don't get it.
*me crying as a weezer fan*
My favorite song by The Strokes. " I spent a while then decided on you."
3:30 - end is some magical shit
I love how the Strokes got tired of being a band and then each branched out with their own solo shit (which is all good btw); only to come back stronger than before with music that is informed by each of their solo endeavors. Not many bands are capable of that.
6th album here we come, WOOT WOOT!
They're definitely not stronger than before.
Thanks to you, am gonna look for their solo shit
Still waiting for their new album.

Take my time today
I'm gonna take what comes my way
Take what they give me
Yeah, I want my money now
But he is not around
You better hold my money safe
What's your emergency?
And for the first time in my life
I'm gonna get myself right
Just get into trouble
Be there on the double
Place your bets this time
Just has to let it ride

But the dice are on parole
I won't look down your dress
I bet you bend down as a test
I cannot wait to chase it all
Yeah, I saw it in my crystal ball

A secret for a spy
I got a better idea
I'll bet you on the side
When I get up in your face
You know it's no surprise
Ah baby, why's it so hard to read the sentence in my eyes?
And for the first time
Chains on your legs
I spent a while
Then decided on you
My baby doll
You ignored your life
We'll do it together
I'll be there whenever
Oh, you took a minute break
And said, "Thumbs up, they're okay"
I'm going to watch the tidal wave
It's hard to chase away

This band is epic
vero!!!
This song is a perfect mix of Is this It, Room On Fire, First Impressions of Earth, Angles, and Comedown Machine
That's exactly what I thought , I love that we arrived at the same point of view while listening to the EP.
yup! The title of the album implies a little bit of everything! Great tune!
AMEN!
My heart aches as I listen to it. It is so beautiful! The EP is perfect.
This one is the best on the EP. It's so perfect!
1:05 how beautiful is that progression.
When It Started + Someday = Threat of Joy
Ikr
In Her Prime too
barely legal
When it started... I think that too ;)
Evening Sun + Barley Legal= Threat of Joy
This song is easily my favorite from the EP. It has this Evening Sun chorus feel and the riff from 3:34-End is...just so relaxing and clean. And Casablancas whispering in the back adds this mystic/hushed and relaxing feel.
I can see how this song reminds us of older songs and I love that part too. even when its just instrumental and you can tell the instruments apart :D

This song basically screams, "We could write Is This It again if we wanted to."

They could probably make 100 albums that will always sound great
Yeah this song is clearly the "past" part of the EP
Agree. 🤘
when you realized that future present past stands for the styles of the songs on the ep

it doesn't hurt either that the songs are in the exact order in the ep :))

Dios, estoy delirando con esta canción... Es difícil de explicar. Hard to explain. Jartusplein☺
When i was high listening to this. The chorus part just take me back to 2000’s the strokes
great song. i think this shows just how easy and natural it is for them to write songs like the "past", but they have evolved/matured/progressed. which is fine with me. if they had made 5 albums like 'is this it', then the original wouldn't be so special.
I heard this song at the beach walking with my girl the sunset it was get dark and all you see the moon it one of songs you wanna have a peaceful time with lovee it too death💕
One of their best for sure 🙏
Listening to this amazing song in 2020 when the new album has been announced.
One of the best songs I have ever heard. Please come to Chicago as a band. The Strokes are amazing ! Perfect song to start my golden birthday today :D
Gosh darn it if I don't just love The Strokes. Always have always will.

Hard to explain is one of my favorite songs, and Threat of Joy sits at the same level as it.
xD Me Gusta Cuando Las Bandas Regresan a Sus Inicios, Exelente Trabajo Han Hecho THE STROKES, Concuerdo, Se Parece Algo a Room...
+The “The Interlude” Interlude.
La verdad oblivius si me recuerda a room on fire
Room on fire es mi favorito :v
Yes! This sounds like the good old Strokes I fell in love with back in 03. Back to their roots. Back to Is This It.
so much love for the strokes
The music industry needs more of this, whatever "this" may be.
😂yea
3:33 This is it
This new Ep from the strokes feels really refreshing. They have been huge for us since the start and we're happy that they're still making amazing music. The Strokes have inspired and motivated us to start our own band and write our own music. You should listen to our latest singles from our upcoming album. You won't regret it.
Said no one ever.
i think that this is my new favorite song! >:D
fr
I love the swing (or whatever it is called) rythm in the refrain
I love them so much!!, This song remind me the age of Room On Fire. Now to wait the new album (:
It really does! OBLIVIOUS reminds me of First Impressions of Earth era
+Adawiyah Arine To me,when Julian sings the chorus "For the first time,in my life." It reminds me a lot of Killing Lies.
+Adawiyah Arine Also,Oblivious reminds me of Comedown Machine and Angles with the Is This It filtered vocals effect
I got the is first album era
I got the is first album era
I've read somewhere that you guys actually read the comments. if you guys come across this comment I just wanna say thank you. thanks for being our favorite band and the great memories you've helped us create with your music. Thank You Strokes.
Greatest Band Ever
This song gives me a Room on Fire vibe
