Tbh it's sitting really well if you think about it. Magic, Pokémon and YGO being on top 3 is basically given. One piece has this SUPER HUGE Fanbase thanks to the Fanbase. Lorcana has all the old geezer hype going around thanks to the Disney IP. So Digimon being above CG like Flesh and Blood is kinda amazing. EDIT: the price and artwork of OP is better? Dafuq u talking about? 😂 Artwork of digimon is FAR better. Most of OP are Anime Screenshots. And the pricing?? The decks are crazy expensive.
Most of the OP artwork is original. It being bad anime screenshots was a problem in the first few sets but that isn't a thing anymore. And $100 - $225 for top meta decks is quite reasonable across the TCG space. Pokemon is really the only Big game at the moment that's cheaper.
Another thing to keep in mind is how underprinted/underallocated digimon product was this year (assumably because their printing capacity was being used to print UA and Gundam). You still cant get ahold of BT16 or EX06 at Msrp. Would Digimon have been higher up if they were printed in higher? Also that thing you mentioned about collectors and UA applies to the players too. My understanding is that decks can only be from a single IP, so if a set (which are IP exclusive) isn’t meta relevant, the competitive players have no incentive to buy it., so more product won’t necessarily equate to more sales. UA is a weird one. I think TCGs as a whole are going to dip in 2025 onward in the US at least because the current political climate leads me to think there will be an economic downturn (not getting into it any more than that). Bandai will probably get hit the worst because they are already canabalizing their customers across all these IP.
Lorcana being in top 5 instead of Digimon is crazy to me, maybe is a thing of the Us but here in Latam is hard to find people that play it or even finding new product of Lorcana in stores besides some older starter decks. I think what happened is Digimon is getting expensive in both markets making people back out from it beyond other problems the comunity have mentioned. One piece I am not surprised is that high since Bandai have been feesing it and reprinting to hell n back making some comptetitive decks are easier to build. Vanguard I am surprised cause here in Latam theres no scene at all and in Us from what I asked there's barely any players. I am eager to see what happens to Gundam cause that's a big franchise and Bandai loves it
One potential point on the data- our Digi group buys from the LGS and never from TCGPlayer. They’re cheaper and ready faster at the LGS. We even pre-order often. Without a lot of new players, I think a lot of us are in a groove on where we go to get our stuff.
Same here, I tend to buy everything from my LGS because I get along with the owner there and well, it's where I can play the game. I always prioritize buying singles there.
This list is like Dead Dove: Do Not Eat. As in, "I don't know what I expected". Like it's kind of obvious. I love Digimon, but I don't think it'd beat any of those. But just comparison is the enemy of good. What's wrong with enjoying the game as it is? Also, at this point, I kinda I just want to see the other Bandai games succeed too. Then maybe Bandai will invest more in their card game division. Gundam looks really neat. TBH, if Bandai was gonna make another TCG, that property deserved it. I don't even know if they could even do another game after this unless they separated Digimon into two games like Dragon Ball. So maybe how they run the games will stabilize? Just I feel like ending 2024 on an optimistic note is for the best. (Also ew, show CSVs in Excel or an equivalent product for ease of viewing.)
No way does OP have better art with all the screen shots they use on their cards lol. Honestly, as long as Digimon keeps 4th-7th place, I'm not feeling too worried about the games health.
@noahdragoon1855 As someone who got burned out on card games playing Vanguard during early V format, I feel ya. I thought it killed my love for card games as someone starting out. But I do still have a little nostalgia for it haha.
I do think the data is really skewed away from sealed for Digimon on TCGPlayer. From everything I've seen travelling across the U.S., most Digimon product sells out via LGSes, and the way Bandai does print-less-than-demand philosophy for Digimon really minimizes stock going online. Digimon is 6th based almost exclusively on single sales and that's a very good thing as a stabilizer for the game's position. Really, TCGPlayer is a last resort for businesses because they take such a significant cut from sales, and Digimon players are instead using their money to support their locals and buy singles from other players. Digimon players spend a lot on singles and that shows we have a solid playerbase that are competing with brand-new games on raw purchasing power.
@moxmoonstone That's a cool way to look at it. I think that's a good point too. Just with how it was, like how did they have any sealed to sell haha? Also I feel like the frentic pace of 2024 releases for Global Release might have discouraged some people that might come back in April?
Digimon is on managed decline. Take that as you will. I watched the South Jersey scene go from a healthy 20+ during bt12-14 at multiple locals to struggling to launch tournaments today. What they revealed as bt20 gives me zero hope in thinking Bandai has any idea of what the problem is on a design level. The game is no longer Digimon as it once was.
I’m not saying, just hop on the Pokémon pocket train, but I am saying- you might be able to make some revenue if you enjoy that- been a while since I hopped in Mario. Hope you’re doing well.

It's probably because it's been 1,030 days since a Rasenmon has been printed 🦔
We’ll get some rasenmon support one day 😭
agree

You should do this list review every year from TCG player

Number 6 is really good. Don't down play it
The Espadas of Tcgplayer
Bandai is the worst enemy of digimon as always
i'm happy that digimon is above vanguard.
