We keep a package of basket type coffee filters near our microwave. When we got o zap something, we grab a filter, flatten it, and put it over the top. Contains all the splatters and then you just toss it. And it's biodegradable!
I've had one of these for about a year now and MINE JUST CAUGHT ON FIRE in my microwave. This product is not safe and people need to know this. I haven't watched this video fully yet, but I know that you always do great, balanced, and informative reviews and I thought I should add my experience to this
Yes, another FIRE 🔥. Happened to my friend while doing popcorn. Not all the kernels popped. When he took the unpopped ones out of the bag and into a bowl and placed them in the microwave, covered with this magnetic lid, the lid caught on fire inside the microwave. 😮
Not only did you review the product itself but you went the extra mile of checking compatibility with many microwaves🥰. Thank you James for your great content.
Bradley Abel No, it doesn't. The guy went out of his way to overcook the soup to make it splatter and after he pointed out the drippy soup on the cover he didn't turn it upside down, he allowed it to drip onto the stove. OBVIOUSLY, ALL SPLATTER COVERS NEED TO BE CLEANED AFTER USE. Splatter covers are effective for bacon, etc. and beans which explode. Otherwise, gently warming most food prevents splatters. As to storing the Hover Splatter Guard, easier to store in the top of the microwave than in a drawer or cabinet just because of the awkward shape of it. After a crummy review of striving for product failure, he says he's going to continue using it. Lousy video.
i have never seen a youtube review channel that genuinely cares and and follows up on every product extensively so that people who want to buy that product will get a real trust worthy and honest review like freakin reviews very impressed
Keep in mind that the microwaves you looked at with the metal racks are likely convection hybrids and you don't generally use the metal racks when microwaving. I've owned a lot of convection hybrids and a few of them do let you use the metal racks while microwaving but most advise you to take the metal racks out when microwaving. I'm also almost a hundred percent sure by the looks that thing that is not convection friendly. Just thought I'd mention that, I'm liking your videos.
I bought one and love it. I got sick of paper towels falling off and trying to dig out the other flat guards from the drawer. It’s nice that this is right there when you need it. I just do a quick rinse under the faucet after each use. Heavy washing isn’t needed if you rinse right away.
Yes and the water helps the microwaves heat your food and makes it more fresh to eat, like if you put water on rice and heat it up, it tastes much better
I have one and I really like it!!! You forgot to mention that putting it over your food decreases the cook time a bit for a lot of items. I use it for that purpose alone quite frequently. I find that I only need a splatter guard half the time so storing a normal one in there would just be annoying to take in and out. This one I just leave in and never think about. Plus its much quicker just rinsing this off than scrubbing dried on splatter out of your microwave. Just my opinion on owning one for 6mnths!!
I have had a hover cover for the last couple of years. I have the same plastic plate on the top of my mounted microwave but i just stick to the side like you did. I absolutely love it. I haven’t had the same issues you did with it splattering inside the microwave. And it’s literally the only way i can get my gross husband to actually cover his stuff in the microwave.
I bought this about about 8 months ago and last night my husband was heating something in the microwave and heard some popping, looked in microwave and saw that the cover was sparking. He immediately turned it off and saw that one of the black magnetic rectangles was half melted and metal was showing thru. Luckily, we got that dang thing outta there before it ruined our microwave. I'm gonna contact the company and send pics.
4:51 XD I think the reason is that you can keep it in your microwave if you cook something that doesn't splatter. But yes, downside is only works for metal roofings in a microwave.
I’ve got a very basic splatter cover for my microwave from the dollar store. We leave it in the microwave so it’s always there to use. It cost me a whopping $1.25 CAD and it works fantastic
@@Mandy_39 The plastic ones can melt if you go over 3 minutes. The glass ones can build up pressure and shatter. If you look at reviews on Amazon for either, you'll see all the dangers. With either type, the time needs to stay under 3 minutes and you need to monitor it. It's a great idea, but these products are risky.
We don't know how high of heat he was using to reheat things. You don't have to use very high heat to reheat and if you do that can make a lot more splatter than necessary.
I just put a plate upside down over whatever I’m microwaving... contains the splatters, goes right into the dishwasher (if applicable, I use it to eat my dinner on first, then put it in the dishwasher), no need to keep buying anything, and it doesn’t put waste into the landfills needlessly (the biodegradable options still take quite a few years to break down and some will only break down in commercial composting operations, not in regular landfills).
Thanks for the REAL review. These work better when they include the bottom plate. Yes... You still have to put a plate on top of the included bottom plate. You can't just put your food straight on the included plate because apparently it creates hot spots that can melt ... Lol. BUT, if you are keeping your microwave time under 3 minutes and condensation is an issue- the bottom plate catches all the condensation. The dripping mess is kept on the plate instead of the bottom of your microwave. Seems like a hassle, but cleaning up water built up at the bottom of your microwave? That's sometimes a bigger hassle then rinsing a plate off. The cover/plate combo is something I use when I'm heating up mainly soups or sauces. Otherwise? There really is no need.
Considering you can get one at Walmart for 5 bucks and it lasts for years and does not have openings at the bottom, conventional method is better. Vents at the top seems to make more sense anyway.
naseerahvj - They have them at all sorts of chain stores carrying kitchen stuff, some places even car accessory shops (that started carrying all sorts of home stuff)... Cheap and works great, round thing with plastic vent up top. I just brought one at Walmart for $14.94. I have to hover it to the side because center of microwave is plastic. I like that I can store it in microwave since I don't have much storage space it's very convenient.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find it much easier to clean the bottom of the microwave than I do the sides or top of the microwave. At least you can take the splatter guard and the turntable to the sink to wash them! (which should be done a lot more often than some people do!) I also think it would be convenient to have it magnetically attached to the top of the microwave as I would more likely use it than the one I currently have which fell behind the microwave. It is difficult to reach the splatter guard as the microwave is on top of my fridge. Space is at a premium in my 300 square foot apartment. Thanks for your reviews' I enjoy watching them.

I have a dome like splatter guard no magnets .u have to wash them after every use if not it will smell .mine has a vent on it I close it so mine don't splatter
this video is old, but i think it needs to be said: all microwaves have a metal interior, they might look different and have an enamel or nonstick coating, but the metal reflects the microwaves around inside instead of letting them escape the appliance. this both helps to cook your food more thoroughly and faster, as well as keeping stray microwaves from cooking things outside the microwave. this is why microwave ovens also have a metal grille on the front window to reflect the microwave radiation back inside, as the wavelength of the microwaves are larger than the gaps in the metal grille.

I think for children teenagers and young adults who live on their own the hover cover being magnetic and sitting up top will keep them using it rather than being lazy and not buying one or putting it on or so on this way they can just pull it down IT'S RIGHT THEIR YA CAN'T MISS IT and then after that lazy and don't wanna wash it right away through the sink? I'm happy with my cover but I let it sit in the microwave and wipe it off or wash depending on the mess but as a kid my parents alway s said dont forget to cover that etc and now I do as an adult butt didn't care as a kid so in that case I see it ok otherwise im not wasting money on it thanks for the review! My husband got a 2 4 1 deal and only paid 5$. Gave one to my daughter. We both think they work well. I think it's a clever idea, but I certainly wouldn't pay 15$ for it unless it washed itself.

Good and thorough went to check out other microwaves etc you really went the extra mile!
Thanks Ashley. It definitely works OK as a microwave cover, but that means cleaning it after each use, which lazy people may not do!
Freakin' Reviews thank you for your replies that are quick too and honest reviews I just found your channel and sticking with you and your reviews for now on I used to ALWAYS watch grav3yardgirl but you're way better and go the extra mile actually honest 110% and good channel and reviews man!
Always put plate under soup and cover.
Do the magnets get hot from the RF ? If so hot enough to melt the plastic ?
I have not noticed them getting hot.
Thanks
i'd rather stick to a paper towel.. ty for the review !
I just cover whatever i'm warming up with a damp paper towel.
Just ordered one for 4 bucks, how bad can it be ?Can't believe I never thought too look and see if it will stick to the top of the micro.
Update.,got mine and used it multiple times ,works ok but there is a problem. My Hover Cover doesn't stick in the center and has to be moved to the side but when it's hanging there my food undercooks.I thought at first my oven was on the way out but removing the HK and the food again is cooked properly.I tried it on stuff I have cooked often.Glad I only spent $4 on this .
Jambalaya is my Favorite.
A paper towel works just as good
I'll just keep using coffee filters!
I have an Air Fryer microwave and since the heating coils are at the top this is useless
Ok. That seems to suck. I have bought the Nordic cover from Target and it works much better. Thanks brah!
Bra??
That's what I use as well, and it's made in the USA and actually works.
I love mine. You don't absolutely have to clean it every time.
Yeah how often you have to clean it depends on what you're cooking.
I'm on the fence now because I need a splatter guard in my micro oven that is right there all the time to help me out with clean up.
BRENDA RIGDON why do you need magnets to keep it in the microwave?
Saves you time and money
Why is this in any way better than the regular ones and what problem does it solve?
a guy can never have enough splatter guards ...
Thanks for that review. I will continue to use the cover I have..
Jambalaya soup?!?!?!?!?!!!!
*Cajun outrage noies*
My husband got a 2 4 1 deal and only paid 5$. Gave one to my daughter. We both think they work well. I think it's a clever idea, but I certainly wouldn't pay 15$ for it unless it washed itself.
I use paper towels or coffee filters. 👍🏻
thanks for saving me money..
We got something like it with our microwave but my mom melted in the oven
Zazur hover cover
