Although your video is brilliantly informative, some trusted sources have recommended to upgrade it above 512GB. Please compare pros and cons of this upgrade after 10 months of using this.
That's a pretty detailed question. And it's TheBeardedGamer. To answer your question, the upgrade has a lot of improvements over the original ssd. You get both more storage and speed. It might heat up slightly more than your original ssd but that again varies from person to person based on usage. Would you please let me know how is it going along now? is there any small drawback to it which you found compared to the original ssd which was there already? Please help me decide :) Also do you suggest smthing else? maybe samsung evo ? Please let me know your overall experience once. That will help me a lot. Thanks in advance. :)
Hey Nikhil. There aren't any major drawbacks to the upgrade. There os basically one small issue, which is slight heating when you are doing any performance intensive tasks like video editing or rendering but that has to be there as read and write speeds have almost doubled. So slight heating with better performance is obviously a great deal. And about which ssd to use, you can go for either the crucial p1 that I have link to in the description or the Samsung evo, but both will have similar read and write speeds on the MacBook. So, there is no point paying extra when you get similar performance. Hope this answers your queries. Do subscribe to my channel and like and share my videos. Also, all product links are in the description for your convenience. Do reach out if you have any other queries. Peace. ✌🏼✌🏼
Yes I have been using it for over 3 months now and things have been pretty smooth. And apple recommends 256/512 gb because that is how much they can provide. If that makes sense do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.
Both of them are fine but why pay extra when you get the same speeds. I know that both SSDs have different operating speeds but the Macbook has certain limitations. So, whichever SSD that you use, you will get the same speed. The best option in such case is to use the least expensive of the lot. Also, you can choose crucial p2 which is now available. hello, Thanks for the video it so helpful to everyone. I have one concern can you please clarify, changing MacBook Air with the new ssd does make my system too slow or little bit slow on comparison to apple verified ssd,.
Hi Rohit. I am happy that you liked it. Changing Macbook Air with the new SSD actually increases the speed compared to the Apple proprietary SSD. The Apple SSD has a speed limit of around 600 mb/s while the upgraded SSD will have speed of around 1300 mb/s. If I was able to answer your question, please show your support by subscribing to my channel and press the bell icon.
Great Video, I am upgrading from a 128GB SSD to a 1TB so I will follow your instructions! I currently have bootcamp on my MacBook as I use Windows programs often, will all of my Windows settings be saved as well as my Mac OS settings? Also, using bootcamp splits my SSD into two hard drives, one for Mac OS, and one for Windows. Will my new SSD split like this as well, and can i choose how much storage I want to have for Windows and for Mac OS? Thanks!
Great to hear that you are planning to upgrade your laptop. I have added all product links in the video description. As far as all your questions go, the answer to them would be a yes. Also, if you want your current settings on your new ssd, make a TimeMachine backup and then restore it after installing the new ssd. You can also allocate the space for bootcamp from the settings. Do let me know if you have any other questions. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.
Hey Tushar that's a nice question. Based on my opinion M1 MBA is better than the 2020 MBA. The specs are much better and so is the performance as per benchmarks. The issues with the M1 are limited just to app compatibility but again that is something that happens with a new device. And with the popularity of the Apple ecosystem that shouldn't be a problem as more and more apps will get updated.
Thank you buddy, that was helpful. I have a MCB Air 2017/18 model. 1. Would I need the adapter even if it is 2017/18 model? 2. Can I not boot the OS from internet recovery? Thanks in advance.
This one is the 2017 MCB Air. If you have the same one, you can follow the same steps. But, if you have the 2018 model then you won't be able to upgrade as both the storage and RAM are soldered to the motherboard. As far as booting the OS from recovery, yes, you can do that as well. I made a bootable usb because I had one lying around.

Hey Mohamed finding a case for the proprietary ssd is extremely difficult and the ones available are super expensive. You can actually buy a 1 TB external ssd or even more at that cost. So it's better to keep it and replace it whenever you plan to sell off your macbook. Hope this helps. If it does, do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.
Thank you so much @TheBeardedGamer for this detailed explanation. I have one question , " Are you getting any issues with your crucial ssd like "sleep mode" or any other issue . And i also want to put windows using bootcamp after upgrading ssd , is there will be any issue or would it be smooth like original ssd.
No issues with the ssd as long as it is a MacBook Air. Just a slight heating issue, only when you are doing performance intensive tasks like rendering and stuff. The sleep issue is common with the MacBook Pro. And bootcamp has been seamless as well. In the beginning, there might be an issue with aligning the mouse clicks and the function keys but there are a lot of solutions on the internet to fix it. Yeah, Crucial P3 should work with the MBA 2017 with the adapter. But I would recommend using P1 or P2 as they are more VFM for this upgrade. Well Arnav there are a lot of options that you can choose from. There's samsung, wd and in Crucial also there's a few more options as well. But since the adapter that we use for the upgrade supports upto a certain speed there was no point using much more expensive options.

@@somnathmaity5209 There is a link for that in the video description as well. It is pretty simple. Take a look at it and if you still have any issues, do let me know.
Thanks bro. The MacBook air does support the Crucial P5 ssd but why do you want to pay more for the same read and write speeds? I know the read and write speeds are different on different SSDs, but when you put it into the MacBook Air, the max speed you will get is similar, though more than the proprietary Apple SSD. It is all about choice. If you want to buy a more expensive product for the same performance, it's upto you. And, as far as the NVMe adapter goes, the one I am using hasn't shown any issues. But, I have heard a lot of complaints from people who have tried using cheaper alternatives. It might work for you, but I wouldn't take responsibility. But the parts that I have used and have links in the description, will work for sure.
Thanks bro for the reply. I usually need higher rwad and write for the development simulations. That why I look forward with p5. In their website its showing 3000 speed rate while p2 is having only 2000. So when it's on max both gives same speed rate?
@@adhilazeez6039 With the NVMe adapter that is available, the read and write speeds are going to be almost similar. The P1 Nvme ssd has read and write speeds upto 2000, but in the Mac the max speed is around 1300. This is twice the speed of the current Apple proprietary ssd, so speeds shouldn't be an issue. Even if the p5 has 3000, I don't think it is going to give speeds of more than 1500-1600. But, then again, I haven't used it. But from experience with the P1, I am quite sure that the speeds will be limited. So, you can go ahead and make a choice, a lot more money with slight improvement in performance or a value for money upgrade.
TheBeardedGamer how to proceed with the upgrade, I understand how you upgraded physically. but what is the necessary steps like backups and all, also don't understand what you did with those adaptors, how you used those?

So 1 TB is supported? Apple recommends only 256/512 gb to macbook air 2017. Is it working fine till now? Can you confirm please?

Samsung 980 or crucial p1?🤔 what is the Best?
Which is better Macbook Air 2020 or Macbook Air M1 Chip?
As M1 has some issues,problems?
Hey Tushar that's a nice question. Based on my opinion M1 MBA is better than the 2020 MBA. The specs are much better and so is the performance as per benchmarks. The issues with the M1 are limited just to app compatibility but again that is something that happens with a new device. And with the popularity of the Apple ecosystem that shouldn't be a problem as more and more apps will get updated.

This one is the 2017 MCB Air. If you have the same one, you can follow the same steps. But, if you have the 2018 model then you won't be able to upgrade as both the storage and RAM are soldered to the motherboard.

Hey Mohamed finding a case for the proprietary ssd is extremely difficult and the ones available are super expensive. You can actually buy a 1 TB external ssd or even more at that cost.
You can read through it or reach out to me after the upgrade.

Thanks bro. A great advice from you 👍👍👍 Gonna purchase p1 😁
strange that speed disk software needed more than double time to open with the new hd

how to proceed with the upgrade, I understand how you upgraded physically.
but what is the necessary steps like backups and all,
also don't understand what you did with those adaptors, how you used those?
I have explained everything in the video clearly. If you watch the full video, you can easily figure it out. Any additional information is in the video description. If you are still having issues with the process DM me on Instagram and I can guide you step after step. Do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.
@@TheBeardedGamer2020 I have sent a email.
Nice video..just one question can we not use the old adapter instead of buying a new one
The proprietary Apple SSD doesn't come with an adapter. It is a direct fit. But the adapter helps create a connection between the M.2 SSD and Apple 's SSD slot. That is why you need the adapter. If I was able to answer your question, please like, share, subscribe and press the bell icon.
@@TheBeardedGamer2020 thank u.. yes I have already done.. which one do u suggest me to buy..I don't need 1 tb.. 500 gb is enough for me...

@@omkarroy6180 The links to all products are in the video description. Those are all working perfectly. You can choose as per your budget.

how is battery backup MacBook Air after installing 1Tb Ssd Drive
It is almost the same as in normal ssd. Slight drop is there, but around 5-7% which is obvious since the speed is increasing so the power consumption will increase. Do subscribe to my channel and press the bell icon.
does crucial p3 works in macbook air 2017? Please reply soon.
What type of ssd does the macbook air a1466 use? Is it m.2, m.2 nvme, msata, pci express x4 What are the exact specs and sizes of compatible ssds that i can buy for my macbook air a1466? Can i upgrade to an ssd with lets say 2 tb of memory? A lot of videos and forums that i see only show people upgrading to a max of 1tb memory. I been out the game for a while so I’m catching up lol
The MBA a1466 uses M.2 nvme PCIe x4. For the exact products that you can use, I have added product links in the video description. About the 2TB ssd, the MBA supports upto a maximum of 1 TB. That is the reason you see upgrades of only upto 1TB. And, since you have such detailed questions, means you are still in the game. 😉 Reach out to me and I will help you with the process. ✌️
Which one is more faster internal SSD for upgrading from 128gb to 1TB mackbook air 2017 .
The 970 evo is slightly faster than the crucial p1 once it's in the MBA 2017. Based on price difference you can choose whichever works for you. Links for both are in the description. Also do subscribe if you haven't already done so.
Hey @TheBeardedGamer I know its been a while since you posted this video, but just wanted to check if your mac is still working okay?

Hello again thanks for previous suggestion. I am from Nepal and I am planning to go for upgrade as you mentioned . Would there be any problem cause you get geniune products rarely here and I am planning to get from amazon but I am perplexed if anything goes wrong cause as a student its quite hard if money goes on waste. Hope you get my point
Hello Kunwar. There will not be any problems as long as you are using the same products and following the same process step by step.
