Not too long ago, I wore my bright green dungarees to church. And when I say bright green, I mean like traffic light bright green, but I love them. When I was at the bus stop I felt like I got a few looks so I felt a bit awkward about it, but when I got to church, the Korean members there gave compliments and said how much they liked my outfit. I think sometimes we assume people to be thinking negative things when they look at us (which is sometimes the case), but sometimes people's eyes are just drawn to look at something that's standing out and it's not necessarily something they see as being bad
Why you worry about what others think what you wear😮 as long as you are not wearing a bikini 👙 in public. That's bogus and nonsense💯
@linegrant4605 I mean that was basically the point of my comment. I was saying that sometimes we worry about these things when we don't need to. I usually don't worry about it anyway but it does feel awkward when you feel eyes on you and you're not sure why they're looking
what I discovered are 2 dressing styles, the first is women wearing kindergarden or child clothes and second dresses like my grandmother wear in the 50th. Less between, lots of oversized terrible stuff, hyding gender. No elegance, no line or shape, not feminin at all.
Interesting exploration of Korean culture and people. Thank you ❤
I’m confused af lol. Is Korea conservative or liberal? Revealing is bad always or sometimes? Kpop is very revealing no?
Wearing white is super weird in any country as it's reserved for the bride! 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
or having a dead family member who died recently
right?? puhahahahaha
No that's just your opinion, not in my country 🤣🤣
Agree!
@AlLiy-j3g That's not my opinion, that is a very standard tradition in most parts of the world. Your country is an exception.
The video just made me more confused on what's appropriate and what's not 😅
@@markmuller7962 Sorry for the confusion, man... 😁
💯💯💯💯👍
Hm, I was in Korea this summer. I wore leggings and tops with open shoulders and some cleavage. I did fine, I did not pay attention to others’ looks at all. Why would I care? I don’t look Korean, I am clearly a tourist from America, I don’t owe Koreans anything. 🤷🏻♀️
한국에 대한 외국인들의 생각을 알 수 있어서 정말 흥미롭네요😊
I only wear spaghetti strap chest bearing tank top and leggings cuz it’s too hot and I’ve never felt judged or like anyone even cares. In fact 2 different gray haired old people asked me for directions in youngsan. Unfortunately it was my first day there and I had no idea where I was lol. But tbh Koreans wear what they like and what they think is ‘in”. Say if a Korean visited the states when skinny jeans were in and saw everyone wearing skinny jeans, it would be like them saying oh you shouldn’t wear loose pants outside cuz Americans tend to wear skinny jeans. That’s just ridiculous if you turn it around. Wear what you like. If they stare it’s because you look different and they’re curious. It’s not the tank top, cuz they don’t stare at me cuz I’m a Korean in a tank top. (Korean American). But they don’t know that til I speak.
I wear spaghetti strap tops too and live here, nobody ever looks at me weird or stare at my top. I think it’s more and more common nowadays, some Korean girls wear them too.
영상 처음에 나오는 분 경우에는 예뻐서 계속 쳐다봤거나 계속 꼬라봐서 눈 깔으라고 쳐다봤거나 아니면 장례식장에 저러고 가셧거나 셋중에 하나같은데
All the female idols show skin so this is a double standard. Wear what you want who cares. It is rude to wear white to a wedding here in the U.S. but we do dress formally for weddings.
Pop Stars/Idols are not representative of the general public
@@luketargett2233 They represent Korea all over the world saying look we have double standards - if you sing /dance and make money for the Korean economy its ok to dress like this.
@@sprocket8662Pop stars are expected to dress in showy ways as it is part of their performance.
It's not a double standard, just because celebrities in Hollywood represent American culture doesn't mean it's the same in other countries. "Wear what you want" comes from a place of insecurity and attention seeking. A confident person doesn't need to show cleavage, skin or shape to grab attention.
Merci, traverl to korea why dress old fashion granny be bold et brave live once die once. They have no right to control us what to wear in korea. But in the situation need to dress appropriate.
I saw some koreans in my place and they were wearing black.. Everyone wears black or white😅
Then why do Kpop idols wear revealing clothes 😅
Pop Stars/Idols are not representative of the general public
why do Beyonce and Lady Gaga wear revealing clothes? it's part of their job, like a uniform. obviously it does not apply to a regular citizen
Koreans are still conservative on fashion when it comes to skin or style. Besides wearing skirts they don't like muscle shirts or tank tops showing their figure top-wise. They tend to wear shirts that are two or three sizes bigger to cover up a lot.
good
In Japan girls esp younger gen wear mini skirts crop tops sleeveless dresses showing their skin and dealing with some creeps sneaking a pic for the upskirt shot while you care barely see men in tank tops or any revealing clothes exposing the biceps and shoulders other than the shaved legs
@@ootts456 Not much of a shorts person these days but I like to wear my tight shirts and the occasional mesh shirt. East Asians hide very well.
LOL maybe that’s why some male Kpop idols comfortably wear tank tops in foreign countries, while you hardly see them dressed like that in Korea.
@@ootts456Japan is the most modest asian country according to me
"becoming more comfortable and dressing a lot differently to what people expect"...she nailed it, besides specific contexts (like office wear, formal events, etc...) the outfits you can and cannot wear are dependent on how much confidence you have and how much importance you give to others' opinion...you will feel perceived anyways (a lot of times unpleasantly), might as well feel like your being/dressing like your true self at least
Brazilians probably have fun in Kore. Because, in general, we do not git a shaite to people complaining about clothing.
Love it lmaooo
OMG, it's you on thumbnail😯 that Pakistani girl I'm just here for you OH it's your 3rd time on Screen actually 4rth time. I'm happy you are getting attention 😊Love from Pakistan
❤❤❤

Korea was a lot more formal in the late 2000’s and then the office culture relaxed the neck tie and suits, and now after the pandemic people got very relaxed, the baggy clothes is just the trend now, skinny jeans and short skirts have been around for a long time and greys and blacks are just the trend now..Korea changes very quickly in terms of fashion and style, but in my opinion way too relaxed now and the crocs are such a bad look for out and about
They don't mind thighs but not them shoulders!
Shoulders can be seen as more sexual in different cultures here in greece where ten year olds and older girls are trying very hard to act aggressive but also sexy and while they wear ripped jeans they usually reveall all of the shoulders
This is ridiculous. I think they're just making assumptions based on an inaccurate portrayal of Korea in foreign media, not solely on personal experience.
Giving dirty looks to people wearing tank tops or clothes that show shoulders? Korea isn't that conservative.
Sure, if you're wearing something really revealing, people might stare, but that's true in any country, not just Korea.
Plus, the interview questions seem biased to draw out negative responses.
bro it's not that deep. and if you can't stand a basic conversation then don't watch the video.
Being overly defensive, aren't you? Have you ever considered that those who say they got dirty looks are talking about their personal experience? And regarding "revealing", the degree differs from country to country. Koreans have very low tolerance for women revealing at the top - maybe it has to do with typical Asian female body - but high tolerance for revealing a lot at the bottom.
I suspect most foreigners only live in a small expat bubble in certain parts of the city. They don't understand the concept of "appropriate" clothing for each setting. What is culturally suitable or not (aka social norms) is something that you're trained from a young age in any society. Obviously, what you're wearing to work is not the same as what you're wearing on an off-day. And what you're wearing to dine in a fancy restaurant is not the same as going to your local supermarket. And the hour of the day is another matter.
That having said, the clothing of Europe and the Americas is pretty casual compared to South Korea.
When you’re shaped like a 12 year old of course they will not like “revealing” tops. Short skirts are WAY more classless than a revealing top
I was under the impression not wearing white (i.e. outshining the bride) in a wedding ceremony is common in most parts of the world.
I made all these mistakes in Seoul …. Didn’t know that normal European things are inappropriate in Korea.
Wearing white at a wedding (unless you’re the bride) is also frowned upon in the UK. It’s the bride’s day.
I guess that's why women in kdrama tend to wear colourful clothes? Bcz it isn't reality
100년 전에는 유행 안따라가고 우리것만 고집했어. 그리고 처참하게 멸망했었지.
How does bro always find the cutest girls to interview lol?
Since when did African start invading Korea?
You should make a video about how and why you even decided to live in Korea.
can we get an @list of the ppl interviewed (if they're comfortable sharing)? all of them are gorgeous
2:57 - @onniejessie (I guess)
the girl in the blue top. isn't she a youtuber?
If I remember it right, Koreans associate purple color with witchcraft or something sinister. I remember a joke from Knowing Bros when Hwasa guested & had purple lipstick. She got those comments.

That is a good thing women and men being humble with their outside makes them more beautiful on their inside
@@Otto_von_bismarck5no, the way a person dresses doesn't change anything about who they are inside.
2:57 The part that the woman said is the most accurate.
Okay this is my opinion about this topic that here goes I understand that Korea is conservative and I respect that highly I really truly do I know how to dress I know what not to dress and and know what not to wear but when it comes to colors I am going to wear my colors because my colors and my fashion is a part of me it's not too much it's not too little it's It's me and I have been with this for my entire life and it will not changeand again I have noticed in some of K explore videos what if it's something you can't change like your skin color what then if you could speak the language you dress appropriately you wear your colors but you can't change your skin Tone What then see a Korean friend of mine had told me girl you have literally wreck the code? What I understand what I notice is this what what do you do if you can't change something that you're born with like your skin color what then you know the language you know the dress code but you can't change the skin color what then you know what the answer is go to Hongdae!😂?🇰🇷❤🇨🇱
When there i tried to keep my tats hidden until i saw so many people with tats. I did try to keep the girls hidden. Iykyk
In France we’re not supposed to wear white clothes either…
Donno I live in a different Korea I guess😂
You can pretty much see from these interviews that some people have a negative attitude. Some people have a positive attitude, and some people are just repeating what they've heard on the internet. lol =3
굉장히 본인들 문화중심으로 타국을 판단하고있네요. 그런 생각이 오히려 보수적이라고 봅니다만? 서양인들이랑 대화하다보면 멍청하다는걸 자주 느끼는데😂
ok this is good people both men and women need to dress modestly
Why is not showing cleaveage seen as oppressive and conservative stuff as old and evil like we are in the middle of a birh crisis maybe marry instead of selling your body which is the attitude this clothing sells
