The Thousand Islands are a group of more than 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border of the U.S. and Canada. The archipelago is roughly a two-hour drive west of Ottawa and three hours from the Greater Toronto Area. The region is home to famous castles and cottages, shipwrecks, national parks, historic War of 1812 sites, theatres, festivals and a casino. It also boasts an abundance of natural beauty with rocky shorelines, sandy beaches, captivating rural pastureland and of course, a myriad of islands.
A fashionable retreat for the elite in the late 19th century, today the area is a hub for outdoor activities and one of North America's most beautiful and unique destinations.
