The split of equipment across 2 option packs made the P2 far more than the TM3 to get what I wanted, and having spent some quality time in the P2 I’m pleased I chose the TM3. The P2 looks great and has lovely steering, but the TM3 is just better at everything else and heaps more efficient. I suspect the “strategic differentiation” package pricing (and inefficiency) is because the P2 is still on the old CMA platform, not a dedicated battery one, so they can’t make money at Tesla pricing. If that is so, they need to hurry up and roll the P2 onto SEA or something before it dies. And also, dump the “traditional” business model of deliberately enshittifying a price leader, Tesla and the Chinese brands have broken it.
I arrived at the same conclusion, the Tesla was just better in every department whilst being cheaper and there was no compelling reason to go Polestar. I do know the Polestar 2 started life as front wheel drive (in single motor guise) but the latest revision is rear wheel drive. They are improving the car but what they really need to improve is the value proposition.
Tesla is also not making much on their model 3. Their strategy is to make it as cheap as viable to make it hard for competitors. So I guess the consumer profits from it. Polestar is just a more “drivers” kind of brand like BMW.
To be fair Sam, Newcastle is just two hours from Sydney by road. You could hop down, grab a Polestar, drive it around for a couple of days (even back to Newcastle) then return it after you've finished your review.
We drove a polestar 2 in the UK for a month last year only because a Tesla wasn't available. But we found it to be a great car but it was a bit hard to fit 3 cases in the trunk. But as a change over from ice to electric would work very well. If in doubt drive one . Keep smiling everyone
Chick bait? What email? We've seen it in the US and here in Europe where Tesla has dumped prices. Establishing a new brand is tricky and if your segment ambition (and you have a product that fits into that segment) says premium price the last thing you do is to dump your prices i.e. follow Tesla. So I guess Polestar is fighting tooth and nail to manage it's segment ambition - which includes a price point. Car packing has always been and ever will be a method of making some profit - Porsche will be doing the same. If you find the pricing not to your taste or you dislike their packaging (content, price and positioning) perhaps it's not your segment. I'd love a Polestar 2 - I can't afford it, that doesn't mean that I whinge about it. You either have the money or you don't. Either you can afford the packages or you can't. New market entry is hellishly expensive. Newcastle, somewhere in Australia, sounds like it's not prio 1🤔 I can't imagine its personal decision that they haven't got car over there for you to test. I am sure there will be an opportunity for you to test one at a later date - it may not suit your RUclips though. I happen to live in a Central European Market, where Polestar isn't represented either - there's not a lot I can do about it. I drive a Ford atm if you are interested.
I've driven a Polestar as a rental in Germany....and was very happy to make the switch back to a Tesla Model 3LR. Top speed at 160km/h in Germany? Are you kidding me? Interior all felt tacky. I don't know. Not really my cup of tea.
Polestar owners have great reviews, that is the fact. I test drove 2. It was fantastic. Keep in mind Polestar was the racing wing of the Volvo. It is like the AMG and M. It is really a good handling car.
I noticed the "Polestar 2" is available for rental now at Hertz at least in America. It would be a cheap way to drive it for a day and compare it to Tesla. Polestar and other BEV makers should do what Tesla does and get free and easy 30 min test drives with just a phone sign up. Super smart.
I test drove a Polestar several years ago. Nice car but I didn't want a saloon. Main problem was the packages. To get the several features I actually wanted, included with it's competitors, I needed ALL the options packs - making it completely uncompetitive. So I now have a BYD - and it's great!
The biggest part of the war is in the pricing, BYD, Tesla and others are reducing. The Western mentality that seeks out exclusivity by way of using the pricing during the time when we have a regime that does not care about whether or not a feature is included and would still cut the cost... This will send them to the grave
I have driven a Polstar Model 2 and it is a very nice car butt: 1. The interior was very plain bordering on boring. 2. Both the car itself and the various option packages are over priced by a lot. 3. The performance is mediocre capared to its competion. If you compare the Polsestar EVs to the competion they are not a compelling choice. I think the brand has nothing to offer and will very likely fade out of existence due to a simple lack of interest.
1. Polestar is verjazzled compared to a Tesla. 2. At least you have options. My Tesla didn't even have grab handles over the doors ! 3. Tesla usually wins, but I have mine in chill mode, which cuts 30% of the power delivery (to save on tyres).
IMHO Polestar, for instance - has real parking sensors, not a vision based mud view - has a electric tow so you dont have to crawl in mud to get it in place - has a design that stands out ie some personality - is better built
@@thomaswestin9987 🤣- I have been towing boats, caravans and other trailers for over 30+ years using a stanbdard hitch...number of times I needed to crawl in the mud...zero. If this is a regular occurrence for you then you're doing something wrong My Tesla has ultrasonic sensors, in additon my model 3 -is lighter -is faster -has more real range -has better efficiency -has better cabin ergonomics -has a bettery battery -has more cargo space -has access to the best charging network in the world -has massively superior software -does not have a huge legacy ICE transmission hump running down the middle -cost me over $10k less like for like And after 16m and 33,000 km does not have a single squeak, creak or rattle and all the panel gaps are perfect. AMG has been involved in modifying and tuning cars since its founding in 1967, but it began producing complete vehicles in the early 1990s. The first car entirely designed by AMG was the 1993 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG. In 1999, DaimlerChrysler (now Daimler AG) acquired a majority stake in AMG, and it became a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2005. This transition marked AMG's evolution from a tuning company to a full-fledged car manufacturer within the Mercedes-Benz brand.
If you are going to have options, should be all or nothing. Porsche options enable you to pick and choose so you end up with a complete custom car. Packs (ala Polestar) are infuriating as you always end up with options you don’t want (but you have to pay for). May as well have two specifications - base and loaded - if complete flexibility isn’t available…
First thing PoleStar isn’t about to be a problem for you, they are there own biggest problem if I need a new car and I hope I won’t it won’t be new they are too much damn money the most I have ever spent for a vehicle is $27,000 so new is out of my league. Here in Massachusetts they rust so if you get 18 to 20 years out of a car your lucky. So if I needed to replace my 20013 VW Beetle it would be. New Manual VW Jetta which would be about $26000 or a slightly used one for under $20000.
I bought Nissan Quashqui because they were great, each model improved on the previous until you got to their top model. No huge number of separate option packs 😊
4:59 Polestar isn’t a new brand they have been around since the 90’s when they began as a Swedish Motorsport team that raced Volvo’s..SMH They are amazingly fun, and really easy to drive EV’s. Nothing confusing about them whatsoever…
My friend has a polestar, he loves it, I have mixed feelings, “android 1.0”-like interface, feels cheap vs. the price paid, 400km-ish range with the non-100% charging syndrome. Price is the big issue for what’s offered.
The way Polestar vehicles prior to the face lift are seen on rental fleets I wouldn’t think things are going too great for the brand. That said I enjoyed driving one but wont consider buying one myself due to very high prices for consumers.
Nice looking cars, hope they do well, but the transition will only happen successfully if they get those low cost cars out there. (US tariffs, I'm looking at you!)
Sam. And you people who want a top quality, premium, luxury car for the price of a mass market budget car. ...... It doesn't work that way! ... The option packs offered by Polestar allow those of us, including me, who cannot afford a top tier premium brand, with all the bells and whistles, such as premium audio, Nappa leather, fancy wheels, high performance 400 plus horsepower etc. etc. to own that same top brand, premium car, at a price a lot more of us CAN afford, without some of the less necessary features. You may not be happy to be missing out on some features, but Polestar offers extremely good value for money if you choose wisely. I chose the dual motor, that's AWD 408hp with my selected paint, factory roof racks, and rubber mats, and the price came under the luxury car tax threshold. I don't have leather seats...... So what.... I still have a Polestar 2.... AND I LOVE IT!!!!❤
Hello Viking. I'll bet you enjoyed that motor show in Melbourne. Australians are geopolitically fortunate to be close to China, their tech and great products. Imagine living in protectionist, xenophobic US. How rubbish would that be?
What a PR own goal from a desperate company. Keep telling the truth as you see it Sam. I personally like the look of Polestars but when I rented one for 3 weeks I found it really impractical, awful aduio quality and non-intuitive system. Hertz had it listed as a large car. There were only 3 of us with a medium suitcase and small bag each but my son had to sit with two rear seats down next to him jammed to the ceiling with bags and it handled like a barge, albeit a fairly comfortable one.
He means as a stand alone car brand, they have been tuning Mercedes vehicles for over 50 years, but only released their first stand along AMG branded vehicle about 10 years ago.
Up 80 per cent after they lowered their price back to what it was when they used to sell a shed ton. Clearly raising prices by 20 per cent for the PS2 in 2022-23 was not a smart idea. They need to keep it sub 60k, that's where it belongs. They also need to simplify the option packs. Ridiculous that for the plain sparse beautiful Swedish design they have such convoluted option packs.
Easy to have sales up in Q2 when you are giving it away. Here in Canada, $200/month for a 12 month lease! That is cheaper then putting gas, so sales way up, and so is depreciation - what will happen in 12months?? As a Polestar 2 owner, not happy with the fact that my car is worth 50% less after 18months of ownership.
I really don’t understand your line of reasoning. Polestar until recently could only deliver the Polestar 2, which is some years old. The 3 and the 4 can only just be ordered so deliveries are just starting. Logic dictates that deliveries are still low but will be picking up.
Polestar was created when Geely thought they needed a non-dealer network channel. But they apparently have decided to go with Volvo, so Polestar is going to just disappear.
@@thomaswestin9987 Geely announced that Volvo's electrification is way ahead of schedule/expectations. That is the clue that Volvo is going to get the products, not Polestar. Which brand name they ship the cars on doesn't really matter to the consumer, but Volvo has a lot more dealers already.
Zeekr treats you very well but Polestar does the opposite. Obviously, Geely Group was not united. Stellantis and VW Group seems to be better than Geely in this point.
In AUS Polestar is nice but over priced. So I guess that price, performance underpins their sales. I don’t buy they are another Audi, BMW etc. If I was after a luxo European car those established brands would be the best to buy.
IMO, the only part of a Geely 'luxury' car is the price. In reality it's probably cheaply produced just like a BYD. However, unlike a Tesla interior, at least the PoleStar looks like it was actually 'designed' by real designers, not just the children in an IKEA play pen (aka Tesla). BTW, I am a TSLA share holder, drive a Model Y, and have a Tesla charger and PowerWall battery in my garage.
I’m also a Tesla shareholder, in fact it’s by far my largest investment. However, I don’t drive one as they are just too expensive in the UK at the moment. I’m invested for the long term, not for the passenger cars but for Robotaxi’s, AI, bots and energy.
@@greghudson9717 Yes, I doubt you. And, I doubt your judgement because you clearly would go for superficial beauty instead of the inner quality and entire package. One that will judge the book by its cover. One that will focus on the thorn, instead of the beautiful rose.
@@travellover3373 You really have no clue. Yes, I think the Tesla interior is SHIT, but I got it (FREE) for the underlying engineering excellence, and it's efficiency, not it's looks, because it doesn't have any (I thought I already made that clear).
Reviewer embargoes are the standard response to negative comments. You give an overall negative review, they cut you off, simple as that, and EVERY automaker does this. It's completely normal, and fully expected. The OEM marketing team has no way to know if you're a hater or what's going on, so it's easiest to simply not do any future business with you. If you didn't know that would happen, that's willful blindness on your part. That said, some reviewers push these angles to get "credibility", and it appears that's what you're doing, so congrats, mission accomplished. The only question is how far this will go, whether it'll just be Polestar, or will extend to the entire Geely group.
Please stop suggesting. Let Polestar do things their way. 80% growth is not trivial and as Polestar moves to common platforms across the Geely group any commercial weakness in the brand becomes a more manageable matter. Profit is based on sales across the whole group (assuming there are common platforms, plant and production methods) so Polestar gets more breathing space as the total of Geely's EV shipments increase. Polestar is making great EVs, so along with the headway being made by Geely's electric platforms in the EV market (with good reason), Polestar, too, is set to fare very well in the growing high end EV market that the brand is focused on. You are having issues with Polestar because your reviews have been one-sided. You spoke of the likely withering away of the brand but instead sales are growing at 80% (and the annual growth figure could prove to be higher). Polestar, I would say, don't think they need your help to make sales.
It is amusing when companies respond furiously over negative comment. They are in fact more often than not missing a learning and growing opportunity. To be fair Sam, Newcastle is just two hours from Sydney by road. You could hop down, grab a Polestar, drive it around for a couple of days (even back to Newcastle) then return it after you've finished your review.
Sam, what's that BS about AMG? AMG was founded in 1967 and later sold to Mercedes in 2005 completely.
Research before talking.
agree
Newcastle, somewhere in Australia, sounds like it's not prio 1🤔
I can't imagine its personal decision that they haven't got car over there for you to test. I am sure there will be an opportunity for you to test one at a later date - it may not suit your RUclips though. I happen to live in a Central European Market, where Polestar isn't represented either - there's not a lot I can do about it. I drive a Ford atm if you are interested.
Oh you SHOULD share the emails. Have you seen dCS and Golden Sound with the company banning and sueing reviewers?
Yes, Mr. Viking, now you see what has become from viking land. 😉
I've driven a Polestar as a rental in Germany....and was very happy to make the switch back to a Tesla Model 3LR.
Top speed at 160km/h in Germany? Are you kidding me?
Interior all felt tacky. I don't know. Not really my cup of tea.
The Polestar 2 long range dual motor has 205 km/h top speed
yeah not sure what you mean by that. Tesla autopilot only goes up to 140km/h
Will catch up with you next year mate at Melbourne EV show.
So it's 80% from what base?
Polestar owners have great reviews, that is the fact. I test drove 2. It was fantastic. Keep in mind Polestar was the racing wing of the Volvo. It is like the AMG and M. It is really a good handling car.
I noticed the "Polestar 2" is available for rental now at Hertz at least in America. It would be a cheap way to drive it for a day and compare it to Tesla.
Polestar and other BEV makers should do what Tesla does and get free and easy 30 min test drives with just a phone sign up. Super smart.
You can book a test drive at Polestar spaces for free
@@thomaswestin9987 That is awesome I am a BEV hardcore follower and didnt know that .....that means they need to work harder to publicize this !!!!
I've been looking at used Polestar's and understanding the differences outside of standard and long range can be a little bit of a head scratcher
I test drove a Polestar several years ago. Nice car but I didn't want a saloon. Main problem was the packages. To get the several features I actually wanted, included with it's competitors, I needed ALL the options packs - making it completely uncompetitive. So I now have a BYD - and it's great!
Looking at Polestar, I realized, Short-Selling is a cancer...
The biggest part of the war is in the pricing, BYD, Tesla and others are reducing. The Western mentality that seeks out exclusivity by way of using the pricing during the time when we have a regime that does not care about whether or not a feature is included and would still cut the cost... This will send them to the grave
Stay honest. They might learn something from a bit of criticism. 🇦🇺
Why would "the guys" email you if they can comment here? 🤔
Correct. Their Public Relations Officer would contact Sam directly by phone.
Sam, don't let them change your style. Say it how you see it (within the bounds of libel)
I examined both options. Heavy discounts from polestar. Tesla model 3/y are the best EVs in Australia right now. 3 and y are both excellent vehicles.
Polestar 2 2024 has better range afaik
I have driven a Polstar Model 2 and it is a very nice car butt:
IMHO Polestar, for instance
- has real parking sensors, not a vision based mud view
- has a electric tow so you dont have to crawl in mud to get it in place
- has a design that stands out ie some personality
- is better built
@@thomaswestin9987 🤣- I have been towing boats, caravans and other trailers for over 30+ years using a stanbdard hitch...number of times I needed to crawl in the mud...zero. If this is a regular occurrence for you then you're doing something wrong
My Tesla has ultrasonic sensors, in additon my model 3
-is lighter
-is faster
-has more real range
-has better efficiency
-has better cabin ergonomics
-has a bettery battery
-has more cargo space
-has access to the best charging network in the world
-has massively superior software
-does not have a huge legacy ICE transmission hump running down the middle
-cost me over $10k less like for like
And after 16m and 33,000 km does not have a single squeak, creak or rattle and all the panel gaps are perfect.
My $70,000 (US) XC60 T8 recharge with similar mileage already has 2 incessant rattles we can't get rid of.
@@TB-up4xi hmm my last two replies were just deleted… In am definitely out of here
@@thomaswestin9987 My Tesla has real parking sensors too.
I don't tow, so couldn't care less
Design is your only win. Tesla SUCKS.
Better built? Highly debatable. Geely doesn't have a good rep.
I am seeing a lot of Polestar cars on the road in British Columbia.
Garbage EV. No one is buying the ugly Polestar 2 Performance because its $100 cad after fees and taxes.
Elon takes criticism personally and instead of shunning those who talked bad about his vehicles, he has them fixed
AMG was founded on June 1. 1967.
This transition marked AMG's evolution from a tuning company to a full-fledged car manufacturer within the Mercedes-Benz brand.
yes this is what Polestar is for Volvo
If you are going to have options, should be all or nothing. Porsche options enable you to pick and choose so you end up with a complete custom car. Packs (ala Polestar) are infuriating as you always end up with options you don’t want (but you have to pay for). May as well have two specifications - base and loaded - if complete flexibility isn’t available…
Congrats Sam for becoming that relevant! 😄
companies that respond furiously over negative comments are insecure
Are you aware this is an EV channel? Squashie Nissans count for nothing here ;-)
4:59 Polestar isn’t a new brand they have been around since the 90’s when they began as a Swedish Motorsport team that raced Volvo’s..SMH They are amazingly fun, and really easy to drive EV’s. Nothing confusing about them whatsoever…
I decided not to buy the car because of their battery chemistry. Bought model 3.
My friend has a polestar, he loves it, I have mixed feelings, “android 1.0”-like interface, feels cheap vs. the price paid, 400km-ish range with the non-100% charging syndrome. Price is the big issue for what’s offered.
From track development vids Polestars look like very good cars. I think they would sell more units if they were in the Volvo line up.
Should buy stocks from polestar now, there around 1$. ❤
You absolutely should share that e-mail. That's outrageous for them to attempt to bully people into giving positive reviews like that. Insane.
The Polestar is a great looking car but so expensive, could almost buy two Tesla Model 3s for the same price, here in the UK.
The way Polestar vehicles prior to the face lift are seen on rental fleets I wouldn’t think things are going too great for the brand. That said I enjoyed driving one but wont consider buying one myself due to very high prices for consumers.
Porsche pricing is not confusing to me 😂
Morning mate fancy seeing you again🙂
Sounds polarizing
Probably trowelled it on a little too thick: bit of moderation wouldn't hurt.
Nice looking cars, hope they do well, but the transition will only happen successfully if they get those low cost cars out there. (US tariffs, I'm looking at you!)
Keep up the honesty, Sam
or perhaps just keep to facts
AND I LOVE IT!!!!❤
Ok what kind of match are you going to have with him at the show? Kickboxing? 😀 Sumo wrestling?
Zeekr is polestar and Geely
Sell more? Reduce price
nope, they build cars that compete with Porsche, not Teslas
There’s only 3 packs
Pilot
Performance
Plus
Disappointed in Polestar reaction banning for negative comments lol.. they should just take the feedback and try to get better
If there's anything Polestar lacks organisationally it's gonna be PR.
Uhmmmm Polestar - ya far far far too dear!!!
How has AMG been around for “6,7 or 8 years” only? Huh 🤔
He means as a stand alone car brand, they have been tuning Mercedes vehicles for over 50 years, but only released their first stand along AMG branded vehicle about 10 years ago.
no such thing as criticize or for or happyx or not or ban or etc, say, can sayx etc any nmw and any s perfx, doesnt matter
In America, don’t strike a nerve. Coddling is what we become.
Lone youtuber vs. international EV auto maker makes compelling viewing!
Skipped the last few videos from you, but this one I'm going to watch.
What?? AMG been around for 40 years.
Its "Geometric" expansion not geographic ;)
I really don’t understand your line of reasoning. Polestar until recently could only deliver the Polestar 2, which is some years old. The 3 and the 4 can only just be ordered so deliveries are just starting. Logic dictates that deliveries are still low but will be picking up.
Polestar was created when Geely thought they needed a non-dealer network channel. But they apparently have decided to go with Volvo, so Polestar is going to just disappear.
Based on what?
@@thomaswestin9987 Geely announced that Volvo's electrification is way ahead of schedule/expectations. That is the clue that Volvo is going to get the products, not Polestar.
Which brand name they ship the cars on doesn't really matter to the consumer, but Volvo has a lot more dealers already.
Problem with Polestar is the European management. They are more in love with their jobs than their customers
😂 Cheers mate
80% is very good actually
Zeekr treats you very well but Polestar does the opposite. Obviously, Geely Group was not united. Stellantis and VW Group seems to be better than Geely in this point.
I have only been treated well by Polestar.
com on mate polestar rocks
The only thing that graph tells us is that their sales are down overall since 2 years back. 🤣
In AUS Polestar is nice but over priced. So I guess that price, performance underpins their sales. I don’t buy they are another Audi, BMW etc. If I was after a luxo European car those established brands would be the best to buy.
But Sam , dont knock being a weetard untill ya tried it, it cam be a lotta fun just give it a chance :p
Yeah right.
@@travellover3373 Do you doubt me ?
Pole needs to halve their prices
Typical way of responding for the Geely labels! Recognize it.
I thought that Stormy Daniel owned Polestar?
In her world the pole and the star are different things 😂 but good company nun the less
Nah, she was a polestar!
