      It's really the municipality that decides. If they want their cops to crack down, they will. But going to jail for this only clogs the system up more. If the guy had any money/income they would have taken him to jail.

      @@michaelmccarthy4615 It was the cop's call in this video, he went against policy. He said that if had three or more convictions for driving without a license, it's an arrestable offense. Even though driving without his license is an arrestable offense, the officer decided not to arrest him and let him go with a warning. Later, when he is writing his report, he will need to explain why he went against policy.

      I got a pretty good break from some cops last summer. I had 4 joints on me, handed them right over and he did a half assed search. Even though the new law decriminalizing it hadn’t gone into effect he just cut me a ticket and sent me on my way. At the court date they just changed the date so I could pay the $25 civil fine.

      Bobby Robertson
      Exactly! The officer said "not too bad" and I was like "that actually is kinda bad"
      Since they're living out of their car, their main focus is finding a safe place to sleep in said car, somewhere they won't be caught and shooed off. Not to mention trying to feed themselves, trying to find a place to take showers, trying to find solid jobs so they can get a residence and get their children back...
      $800 isn't feasible when you've got all of that going on.
      I hope a miracle happens for them so they don't have to struggle anymore..

    • @dylant4737
      @dylant4737 5 лет назад +21

      Katie Glass exactly right! Steere might think that $800 is reasonable since he’s working a stable job probably paying around $50,000/year, but they might not even have $800 in their checking accounts. Ofc. Steere is always a great guy, one of my favorites on Live PD.

    Thank you very much Officer Steere for showing this couple some compassion & not adding to their financial burdens. I had a seizure in October 2017 & was taken to the ER, they automatically inform the ministry of transportation & my license was suspended. Medical suspensions are one year. I’d never had a seizure before, but the Dr put me on seizure meds because I also get migraines & they would help with those. I’m an only child & my elderly Mother has dementia & cancer. I’m the only one who can take her to her Dr appointments, get her groceries, etc. I only drove my car to do these errands for my Mother because of necessity. I also wasn’t working for several reasons when I got pulled over, apparently speeding trying to get to an appointment. I told the officer My license was suspended & my situation. I’d never had any type of traffic violation before, never been in any legal trouble but my insurance was high because my Son had gotten in an accident under my policy. So this would make my insurance even higher, plus the fines for speeding & driving while suspended could be $2500. He wouldn’t cut me any breaks. I ended up making a plea deal with the prosecutor, but it still cost me money I didn’t have. I finally got my license back & haven’t had any issues since that episode. I sure could have used a break that day like this couple got.

    Thank God for officers like this. I had a DWI 5 years ago and in total it cost $5000 to get my court costs and probation fees, PLUS $2000 to the DPS to get my license back and an ssr22 insurance cost anywhere from $250 to $450 a month, not to mention no one worth working for wants to hire you. So glad cops like this can have compassion for those trying to figure it out.

      I bet if you asked the cop, he'd turn down an offer of promotion if it meant that he never had to deal with those types of white people "know" the law better than he does. You know the ones. "that's entrapment" "i know my rights" "that's illegal!" "you're hurting my wrists"

    The guy got the break because of his honesty and cooperation. The cop was awesome to look at there circumstances but in the end it was the guy for being 100% real with the cop and people need to learn from that! Its not always the cops fault, most of the time its our own!
