Going to be trying this for first time ever on holiday next week ( I'm 50 yrs old & never tried it ) video brilliant - kept things simple - best one I've seen - Thankyou very much
Brilliant mate again.....been out a few times over the last 2 week and I must absolutely horrendous at catching mackerel or they know I'm coming probably the first...sheilds and roker pier ....cheers Gary all the best 👍
Hi Paul, I caught covid and it knocked me sideways but im back on my feet now so will be getting back out soon to make more videos. Stay safe mate, tight lines.
Nice video mate. 👍Love drone footage and catch and cook. 👏👏Can't get any fresher. Is there any reason why you didn't remove all the bones from the other fillet? Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Thanks Ian, I dont mind having the bones in the fillet but I know some people like to have them all removed so I was just showing how it can be done if you don't want them in there. Take care mate.
I know you do a lot of pier fishing and was wanting to know if you could recommend a decent rod for pier fishing for example Whitby and Bridlington, I've looked around but it's very confusing, I have two beach casters but fish the Hornsea area so it's all sand need something a bit more robust.
What is the location of this place as looks really nice ? Or even longitude and latitude for would be even better for a exact pin point? , great vid as always though thanks
Hi thanks, I was just showing how you can de bone the fillet if you don't like to have the bones in. I don't mind the bones being in I just eat around them but no you can't eat them.
Hi Gary, Another great video ! I'm from Whitley Bay and have had a go for the mackerel off the Pier, but fancy fishing The Leas. I assume its a high water mark, and is parking ok there? Cheers 😀😀
Brilliant Gary thanks! The Mackerel looked delicious - one of my favourite fish to eat. Decent sized Fish too. Question: If you are freezing Mackerel for bait, do you clean them first? I bought a few packs that hadn't been cleaned from a tackle shop last year and they absolutely stank when defrosted. Took me weeks to get the stink out of my fishing clothes! Stay safe & well - Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍
Thanks dave, if I'm freezing them for bait I fillet most of them just to save on space in the freezer but I do keep a few whole just for the blood and guts for some species. 🎣
@@fishingintheukgarywood Thanks Gary. I usually clean all of mine, remove heads & tails and freeze them Vacuum Packed, then I can either use them for bait or the pan! 👍👍
@@fishingintheukgarywood Hello Gary great videos you make about fishing the leas can i ask what weight spinners you recommend for the rocks 20g 28g 40g or 60g or does it vary on tides & swells on the day thanks to you.
Thanks Carl, I usually switch between the 28, 40 and 60g depending on how far I need to cast to reach the fish and how windy it is on the day. If the conditions are good I'll usually use the 28g if theres an on shore wind that I need to get through or I want to cover more distance ill use the 60g to cast a bit further.

I dont usually use many different types of rod but Century make quite good rough ground rods and are worth a look.
Spot on👌🏻 nice vid 👍
Thanks 👍
Love watching your vids....... But bro, not even salt and pepper???? 🤣 Keep them coming 👌
Great video
Thanks.
Have u tried lure fishing for bass off those rocks

👍
Hi mate love the videos mostly do bait fishing but want to try spinning do you have any info on what time shields pier is open I'm a 40 min drive away
Hi mate thanks, they usually open the pier gate between 06:30 and 07:00 and close it about 21:00.
Will you get mackerel if you go fishing this month?
Yes just got some this morning.
Superb video pal, do you fish rock marks for mackie low tide, on the up?
Thanks mate, I usually fish the rock marks 1- 2 hour's before and after high water for them.
Can you tell me a good place in South Shields for mackerel fishing please
Little haven beach, the first part of south shields pier and along the leas from frenchmans bay to Marsden.
Hello. Quick question - why would you de-bone one fillet and not the other? Can you eat the bones? Great video.
Hi thanks, I was just showing how you can de bone the fillet if you don't like to have the bones in. I don't mind the bones being in I just eat around them but no you can't eat them.
Brilliant video really good to watch loved the added drone shots.
Do you fish off the rocks at high tide?
Thanks Craig, usually an hour or so before hightide then an hour afterwards.
Hi mate is it still plenty mackerel at the moment at South Shields? Planning my trip in few days. 👍
Hi mate, yes there is still plenty about.
Thanks for reply appreciated can’t wait to go fishing.👏
All men fishing off the rocks should go with a friend , two mate’s
Mate's? 😅😅
South shields?
Yes.
@@fishingintheukgarywood 👌 cheers.
What’s the name of where your fishing mate?
The leas south shields mate
Just wondering which website/app you use to check tide times/wind/weather etc?
I mainly use magicseaweed to check tides and swell and the main app I use to check wind and rain is windy.com
Whats the "roughest" you fish here mate? Just when its flat or is it fine up for a couple of ft sea/swell
Usually upto a foot anything bigger and it can start splashing over the rocks where I'm standing at high water.
Hi Gary, Another great video ! I'm from Whitley Bay and have had a go for the mackerel off the Pier, but fancy fishing The Leas. I assume its a high water mark, and is parking ok there? Cheers 😀😀
Hi Kevin, thanks. Yes its mainly a high water mark for the mackerel. Yes parking is ok there is plenty of parking space along the coast road.

i live i whitley bay, ive never fished..i lov mackerel...where to buy decent kit to start?
Try your local fishing tackle shop they usually have some good kit in to start with or the Internet if they don't have what you are looking for.
Have a look on your local Gumtree site - often some 2nd hand bargains on there to get you started. 👍👍
I'm very fond of fishing but coming here Idon't get any idea of fishing

Hopefully you'll get some soon mate.
