    Thank you so much for giving me a taste of the delights that await me- in June I am making a bucket list trip to spend time in St. Bees with a dear friend I met in Ecuador in 1973- she visited me in Washington state, Pacific Northwest, in 2015 and now it’s my turn. I’m 77 and had not expected travel again, but I can still walk with trekking poles. So why not?! Such beautiful country and delightful people, like my friends and yourself. Iwill continue my education with your past videos!

    The beacon museum is amazing.I like whiteheaven.
    In 1977 was with husband in at bees while he was part of a coal drilling rig crew found a load of coal.
    The months spent up there were best of my life

    It wasn't this peaceful yesterday (6/2/22) - the wind was blowing a hooley and with a very high tide, the waves were crashing over the harbour walls - really spectacular. As for the lighthouses - currently all wrapped up and undergoing restoration.

    • @ThatllDoVlog

      Yes it can be quite a sight watching the waves crash over the pier. 🌊

    Just found this!! Ok, Three years old but very current as planning to visit this August 2024. I left Whitehaven 60 years ago for Sheffield as very little Employment available? Yes. Haige Pit or on a Fishing Boat. Sellafield was way out of my reach at the time. Remember Fishing off the Peir. The Steam Tank Engines on the Quayside.Coal Wagons lowered down the hillside on a wire rope from the Pit. Cargo Ships in the Inner Dock for Marchon and Quaker Oats. Plus much more. How things change.

    Nice video, but could have expanded to show the history in the town, such as the marketplace, Lowther castle, park, train stations, rum story, George Washington's Grandmother's grave in St. Nicholas gardens, Rugby ground, St. James Church, the new bus station plus the many pubs & restaurants and my house 🤣

    • @ThatllDoVlog
      @ThatllDoVlog  3 года назад +1

      🤣Thanks. The history you mention, especially the American links to the town are planned for a future video. I’ll try and give you some warning before I show up at your house. 😂

    I have just booked a train journey to St Bees, from Newcastle via Carlisle as well as the return from Whitehaven.
    I'll have about 3 hours between trains
    I was initially just going to walk to Whitehaven along the road but now think I would like to visit the beach first at St Bees, then walk along the coastal path to whitehaven .. do you think I could easily do this in my 3 hour timeslot.
    Regards from Whitley Bay

    • @ThatllDoVlog
      @ThatllDoVlog  10 месяцев назад +1

      From St Bees station to Whitehaven station over the coast will be about 7.5 miles. It’s up and down & probably a bit boggy through the fields this time of year so 3 hours may be a stretch. If it was me, I wouldn’t attempt it.

    Is it far from the Lake District national park?

    • @ThatllDoVlog

      It’s about 5 miles from Ennerdale which is the nearest lake and about 25 miles from Keswick.

      @@ThatllDoVlog that’s great! I will be staying at Summergrove Halls in Whitehaven for 3 nights and I’m so excited to explore. Is there any free parking at those lakes or any parking?

    • @ThatllDoVlog
      @ThatllDoVlog  3 года назад

      It’s free parking at Ennerdale, but for the rest of the lakes it’s mostly pay parking unless you’re lucky and can get one of the roadside parking places. 👍🏻
