    As a goalie, I like to apply a generous layer of wax on my blade. Really helps keep the tape dry and and prevent snow from accumulating and I find that rebounds come off a bit softer and a better feel when playing the puck.

      I used to work with xhockey products and still sharpen at my local rink. It's all about personal preference. I'm 5'9 about 160lbs and I use 3/8 hollow (deepest you should use but can go deeper). My buddy who is 6'3 about 240lbs also uses 3/8. Just depends if you like more cut or more glide and what benefits your play style more. Just gotta be careful when switching to a deep hollow because you'll notice a big difference and stopping will be harder

    - Trying to show snow and wax buildup on white tape.
    - Uses 3 different sticks with varying kick points to test performance of wax.
    You have no idea if you just perform better with the 1X versus the QR Edge...
    Obviously didn't try very hard for this "test".

  • @LLeopards90
    @LLeopards90 6 лет назад +6

    Great video, however the only things about the experiment I would change is mainly: Fresh tape on all sticks and use the same stick to avoid change. I know that's not necessarily easy to do so good test. I also might switch up the order throughout tests to make sure the heavy wax isn't always getting the worse ice.

  • @alw85
    @alw85 6 лет назад +6

    I believe this video missed the mark. I use stick wax, to protect my tape from snow, debris, and moisture. A single stick handle drill will not show the true comparison between no wax, some wax, and a lot of wax. I do not use wax for any "stickiness" factor. I use wax for consistency. I believe that a waxed stick will perform far more consistently in period 1 and period 3 compared to a non waxed stick.

    I used wax threw out my years since I was like 8. It helped me out big time . I recommend it but get a good wax . Some wax I find isn’t very good and actually makes you worse . So a good trustful wax and you should be good . I remember one game I forgot my wax at home but had a candle in my bag for what ever reason , probably for the pond stick . Wasn’t waisting good wax for the pond . And used a candle to wax my stick . Actually worked hahahaha

    And why are all these kids saying you should be in the NHL?

  • @ryanklokman270
    @ryanklokman270 4 года назад

    There are pros and cons to wax. Not enough and the snow builds up too fast. Too much and you start to lose control of the puck because as you can see in your video every touch lifts the puck on its edge when you used the third stick.

    Well...I always used wax for the only reason to keep the melted ice from ruining the tape... With no wax the tape gets "water logged" it get heavy and the tape does not last as long and traction to the puck gets worse with wet tape... In the old days I used "friction tape" that has pitch tar in it and that stuff had good traction and was water-proof... Today's tapes are not the same... So the secret to make the tape last long is wax the tape the hold the blade over heat....torch, heat-gun or kitchen stove...this way you get the wax to warm up and it melts into the tape and basically impregnates the tape... If your looking to "cheat" with picking up the puck with the help of wax...then you buy the special surf wax specifically for cold water, since it stays sticky at lower temperatures.... The real secret sauce to use for wax is Deodorant stick...I found this technique when I forgot my wax and found a stick of MENNEN Deodorant in my shower bag...this works real well and the smell will distract your opponent in a face off ...LOL
