- Summer apple tree prune, best to be carried out in July / August uk summer time, when the new shoots start to become firm / wooded, after a winter prune or reduction, the first year growth (shoots) i cut back to 2 inch ish and 2nd year, i cut back 1 inch ish, this is only how i do it.
Summer pruning is important, as it helps encourage fruit spurs, where winter pruning encourages growth.

Myself and a client do some pollarding in the late winter early spring, such a relaxing job, similar sort of thing
