Some harsh criticism of Leverkusen today from clueless onlookers, but the manager understood, that it was not meant to be. It had nothing to do with his starting lineup or his tactical failure, Atalanta just did everything right with their style of play and came out on top. Give the teams the respect they both deserve.

A tactical masterpiece by Atalanta, and i'm far from being an Atalanta or Gasperini supporter. Bayer has been the inferior team from the first to the last second, but not because they played badly. Atalanta did every single thing right. I strongly disagree with Alonso, it was about tactics! It ONLY had to do with tactics. Xhaka has rarely seen the ball tonight, not because he had one, two or three players around him, he was alone most of the time, no Atalanta player around him at all. They made sure to attack the defending lines in a way that forced them to play the ball to someone else. Same thing with Frimpong. His speed on the right side couldn't be used at all, again, because Atalanta prevented it tactically.
I'm beyond impressed, especially because Bayer taught more than one lesson in tactics this year. It has been an unbelievable team. This puts Gasperinis masterpiece on an even bigger level. I have rarely seen a performance like this. It's the closest thing to a tactically perfect match i have ever witnessed, and i'm 47, i've seen hundreds and hundreds of games.
P.S.: to the people who state that Atalanta were simply fitter: tonight has been the 7th game in the last 21 days for Atalanta...

I said similar things about the near perfection of Atalanta's tactics when they defeated my supported club Liverpool by 3-0. Watch that game. Hopefully most Liverpool fans can now see it after the final that it was less of a faltering of Liverpool and Klopp and more of a special and unique tactical play of Atalanta and Gasperini which can take any big team by surprise especially if they meet for the 1st few times.
Love how xabi is able to admit with no excuses that atalanta was just better and to then congratulate them is pure class, what a season he has produced this year is super impressive so yeah pure class manager in all areas

Leverkusen starting eleven should have been with the front 3 Boniface Wirtz and Hofmann
Andrich instead of Palacios and at the back Kossounou instead of Hincapie
Alonso tried something new to surprise Gasperini and perhaps underestimate Atalanta by resting some players and thinking on the cup and got surprised.
I am sure he will learn from this mistake this was costly.
Atalanta starting 11 was the strongest possible 11 it was a gamble their bench had no one if this initial players had not succeed while Leverkusen bench had so many star players quality players on hold.... Hofmann ,Schick, Hlozek, Boniface,Tella Andrich in the bench is a luxury and the price to pay was a heavy one.
It was meant to be. Your team just turned up still in party mode as if it was gonna be a walk in the park.

Atalanta looks more fit physically, and individual plays are better (just look at Lookman goals, it's not exactly comes from strategy or team plays.. more because of his effort)

Leverkusen went from invincible to invisible. All jokes aside they are a great side. Playing strikerless and having Frimpong tied up in the first half costed them. Ederson and Lookman didn't play a foot wrong. Koopmeiner was low-key a midfield general.

Musso had a straight forward game, never got bothered, made clear saves, if it’s not Lookman being the MoTM it’s definitely him.
I watched the match from 30 min and there wasn't any goalscoring moments for Bayer (except maybe for Frimpong's kick), so why he should have the MOTM? He just did the usual work. Ederson really was everywhere, so maybe second MOTM could have gone to him.
