    Lyrics:
    Lying still
    Am I dreaming?
    Feel the chill
    Breath of fear
    Evil fingers hover, linger
    Someone help me
    Terror fills my soul
    Living dead
    Am I breathing?
    Sightless, blind
    Heart stopped beating
Hear the crying of the dying
    Someone help me
    Terror fills my soul

1359401 Truth. They didn’t get much love outside of the UK and Europe. I don’t know why they are/were exceptional musicians. I got to see them twice. I am grateful for that.

tim brendlinger You are wrong. They were never popular in the UK. They were very popular in Italy and Canada (Quebec anyway) and some other parts of the world. They had a peak around 1975-1977. Then they saw the times changing and attempted a more accessible approach, which ultimately did not work. They have many faithful fans (old and new and ever newer!). They are now more popular than they ever were during the 70s. I have been a fan since 1975 when I discovered their first lp. This giant painting has always fascinated me!

Bought the first Gentle Giant album in a bookstore in Cincinnati in 1971. It was an import, as the record wasn't released in the U.S. This is the opening track, the title and theme of which resonated in my young mind from having watched Robert Siodmak's Son of Dracula as a child not many years before. Saw the musicians perform live not long afterward and they reproduced the song perfectly.

This song came out in 1970, 3 years before Queen release their debut album.....
This means that the VOICE OF GENTLE GIANT INSPIRED FREDDIE MERCURY'S STYLE OF VOICE !!!!!!

    • @dbc7772011
      @dbc7772011 2 года назад +10

I can’t stand queen or Freddie M. Their music doesn’t come close to Gentle Giant’s delicious compositions.

    • @Fredo_Viola

Me too! It’s so cornball in comparison. And although Freddie Mercury’s voice is technically superior I always find it irritating.

You have to remember just because Queen didn't release an album until later, doesn't mean the compositions weren't already there by 1970/71. The story goes that Bohemian Rhapsody, Liar (which began as 'Lover') and Stone Cold Crazy's first iterations were dreamed up when Freddie was still in art school between 1967 and 1969. It's too bad they didn't get signed earlier and they had shot management from the jump. Oh well.

I thankfully got to see GG one time:
Chester, 1977 now part of the big boxset!
GG played at the Widener University ( then college ) field house. Their sound was so good in that mausoleum- they turned it into a concert hall, complete with quad violin!
Chester, Pa., city of my birth, was also the birth of another iconic rock and roll act. It was in this city that Bill Haley and the Comets began, in the early 1950's!
