Say Heah, Blackie, Happy Tks'Gving, I hope you had a good one. I too like my Khukuri, but I don't like the way they work with their Sheath's, you pointed that out. But I do like how good they are in the bush as Tool's, from Chopping , to Digging , to using them as Draw Knives etc. But I always wished that somehow I could get a good sheath for mine. Anyhow, when William came out with the Woodsman, I said Hot'Diggitty, a straight Kukuri that I'm sure will have a safer sheath, surprise, surprise, I ordered one and designed it for my needs, I also had him make me a matching smaller knife to match. I sort of used some of my knives as a base to what I wanted. Anyhow, I finally recieved them on Friday, and took them out with me on out 3rd Tks'Giving Trip with the guys. Yeah, I commisioned William to make them in 3V, Paul'ies Delight is 7 3/4"+ depending how you measure it by a 1/4" thick. Weight never bothered me, Infact I like a robust tool. The smaller one is a Spear Point slightly lowered similar to the Iz Turley Gasconade but with a Curved belly and its somewhere around 4 3/4"+ by 5/32"+ thick, with a Blended Scandi Grind. Looking at just the picture, they both look like simple designs, but William put his heart into making them, Paul'ies Pride is a sweet slicer, very sharp too, both have his Signature Handle Design in a White G-10 Handle with Red, Blue Liners, Simply TiT's, Beautiful. Unless you hold them you can't appriciate how good they really look and function. Yup, I now have a Straight Kukuri, Seriously their Awesome. I just wanted to share this with you. I posted them on Google Plus, Your welcome to look and tell me what you think. Dilly, Dilly, (I stole the Dilly, Dilly, from a Budweiser commercial) heh heh heh.,,.p
i would look at stichedgear.com..thats randy smiths site i met him at the pathfinder gathering in 2016..andi just had him make me a sheath for my masterwoodsman..i am pretty sure he can make what ever type or design of sheath ya want
I like the sheath and the blueing I blue a lot of my knives as well.0-1 is a good steel too .about a month or so I bought a kukri.from kukri house but I got an 8 in blade I blued but I didn't like the handle so my son put a bone on it for me it feels a lot better and looks kinda cool,I think.I have been enjoying it for chopping but .I haven't tried skinning or maybe cleaning a fish. I would like to see if it could do that. Thanks for your other videos and this one because I am trying to figure out a design for my kukri.leather sheath.so thanks I'm going to do something a little different I think ,but your rig is really nice
I would like to see you make a travois to drag and unconscious injured, unconscious compatriot to a location some distance for care. Your only cutting tool is the kukri. You will have all the strapping and 550 cord you need. Have at it bud. Remember, it must be solid built for the distance.
Hi Blackie, First thanks for the video. Second I had an Idea: You could take the Kukri and a piece of flint along with something to heat water in and using only the kukri prep, biuld and start a fire with enough wood prepped to heat water for making say a cup of hot broth. (That just sounds good to me right now as I live in the Northern midwest and it's starting to get a little brisk out there) But to see that kukri prep the different things needed for a fire and work with flint would be a 'boone in its hat' I think.
Figured so, but you asked for suggestions and it was the first thing that came to mind. Seems like that kukri with a flint and charwood tin in the pouch of it would give a guy a real good chance to survive in the woods for a while barring severe weather etc. (of course the fero rod is easier and dependable but it's also mounted on the outside of the sheath, if it 'fell out of its sleave flint would be nice to have as a backup. I'm in the north woods and fire is a huge survival concern; can't have too many sources :) ) Excited to see more vids on the kukri. :)
In the introduction and also in this video you said the knife was a tad slim, I am wondering how well will that baton if needed. Also could you show us game processing with it. I know you are not that big of a hunter and more of a fishermen but surely you cold think of some ingenius fish processing methods using that kukri. Love the video's keep em coming .
i plan on doing game processing as it becomes availble..my job this time of yr makes it hard to get away..but i have friends..and hopefully i will get to process a hog and a deer or two with it
Nice kids don't like the shiny either , well chop a big thing stump , tree etc. And dig like a fire trench , carve a spoon dig for bait clean something ,or BULB WENT OFF ! Baton it with a rock ! That would test it ! Take care brother
Great Video as always! Perhaps go through the process of collecting wood (of various thickness) for firemaking. Could provide useful insight into the Kukri's ease of use for the different sizes of tinder.
I just ordered a WC Knives kukri. I’m looking forward to more of your videos and input on this. I might need to lighten it up a bit to more closely resemble your original
Here's an idea, see how easily it builds a piute deadfall trap. The little notches and grooves would be a good test. Also, shock cord on the leather strap would keep the strap out of the way.
When you get done “testing” it I would love to put it through the paces. Hint hint😉. Like your mods to the sheath and blade. See how well it cuts hickory and oak. That should really work it out. Thanks
Another great video Sir ! Thank you!. I have one question, what type of footwear do you suggest for woodcrafting ? Im a diabetic and I have to keep that in mind , but I love to be in the woods for long hours .
for me its a size to big boot with thick socks and think insoles..add as much padding as you can with out being too tight for circulation..plan on stopping often and unlacing to let blood flow better..best of luck to ya safe journeys
Nice work, do you think that if the back was not too angles with a sharp hump at the middle, but instead a gentle curve would reduce the weight a little and make it more weildable? I’m sure it will chop trees, how about making a stew?
I'd be curious to see how well that temporary belt loop you made will handle forcing your way through Lower Alabama undergrowth. How well does it hold when it's getting snagged. That kind of thing. I know it's just there until you decide how you want to hang it, but still curious.
jim i have wiggled thur a few thickets with it thus far..and it has been rock solid..the knot locks the loop tight so it doesnt ride up and free..but i agree its a temp till i decide the best way..safe journeys
Seems to me that a Kukri should be able to perform all functions of setting up your camp, and still hold a decent edge. Any bets on how long it takes Blackie to break it! LOL
the edge is doing great..i have chopped and shaved and planned a good deal with it and thus far its all good..as to breaking it were gonna get real in a upcomming video..safe journeys
Are you still working on the Kukri project? I may be interested in purchasing one. I've been educating myself on some of the aspects, and I'm looking for a good quality tool. Do you believe 01 with a good heat treat will outperform 5160 with a good heat treat? Thanks for any info.
Show how this tool is a good survival/wilderness living option due to its bigness (is that a word lol?) Some would think it looks silly but the genius of it would be its size. Able to do most of the smaller knife tasks as well as the big tasks smaller knives just can't do. This is why many tribes/peoples not living the first world life choose such a tool... smart. It hacks, chops, protects and can still clean your nails or slice your dinner when needed.
true a big tool is awkward..and requires skill to use in the little tasks..but a small tool is out matched in the big tasks..thus like you said around the world a big toll seems to be the normal choice..good comment..safe journeys
once the blueing has been washed well to remove any left over blueing compound it is fine ..it will seal the pores of the knife and make it less prone to rusting in the field

i plan on a wood to fire video with a few diffrent methods ..and heat up some tea or something it will be coming very soon

my thoughts exactly..how does it do with soft woods..hard woods will ti split to kindling..can i buck up a thick log ect
Beautiful knife, suitable for cutting large wood. How many inches wide is the blade?
I just ordered a WC Knives kukri. I’m looking forward to more of your videos and input on this. I might need to lighten it up a bit to more closely resemble your original

ok added to the list
How about cutting a trail? As always I enjoyed watching. Cool mod on sheath seems more user friendly.

very clever!...well Blackie, i reckon if it does fall off you'd know it soon enough...woods
oh yea you will miss it quick
Nice work, do you think that if the back was not too angles with a sharp hump at the middle, but instead a gentle curve would reduce the weight a little and make it more weildable? I’m sure it will chop trees, how about making a stew?
i think the gentle cure would be more attractive..as to cooking thats on the planned list..stay tuned..safe journeys
I'd consider getting one if it has a sheath like that once the prototype stage is done.
thanks for sharing your thoughts and efforts .

Like the personalizing.

I knew it was a big blade when he was making it, but dang it's huge on your side
william and i talked a lot about it..and he decided to push it to the max..if this works then anything smaller will for sure
it does look a little bit big. I would like to see you clean or field dress a deer with it.good video by the way.
You are doing great with these videos! I would just like to see it chop👍
thats next up stay tuned..safe journeys

I would love to see it used for primitive shelter building
added to the list
I would like to see how it would flesh a hide after making a fleshing beam using just the kukri
When you blue a knife can you use it for food prep or is it toxic?
once the blueing has been washed well to remove any left over blueing compound it is fine ..it will seal the pores of the knife and make it less prone to rusting in the field
You really love them kukris huh?
its is my go to blade in the eastern woodlands
cool
Very similar to my thai enep machete . another type of khukri knockoff design
Clean your fingernails. lol. No I really like it. I like the mods.
When will it be available
I really want to see that kukri in action
stay tuned its coming up soon
Can you fillet a fish with it or is it too big?
I think it can be done..you will have to go slow and use good knife skills.. but i am sure it can be done
Possible but impractical. Id like to see it be done.
challenge accepted..it shall be done!!
blackoracle69 If anyone can do it, its Blackie.
It would be interesting to see if he could pull it off.
