Sobór, który mógł tak bardzo umocnić Kościół, a doprowadził do straszliwego jego osłabienia. Nie twierdzę, że bez soboru nie byłoby kryzysu, ale Kościół, który pozostałby przy swoim tradycyjnym, precyzyjnym i niezmiennym nauczaniu nie zapadałby się dosłownie pod własnym ciężarem i nie szukał nowinek w postaci ideologii i prądów tego świata. Stałby się za to instytucją, do której przynależność byłaby w 100% świadomym wyborem człowieka, że chce trwać przy nauce Chrystusa. Kościół Katolicki byłby - może nieliczną - ale mocną siłą, gdyż uniknąłby tylu wewnętrznych rozdarć i podziałów, a nauka głoszona przez papieża nie budziłaby zmieszania i zgorszenia wśród wiernych. Zwołanie soboru było w tamtym czasie potrzebne, ale bardzo niebezpieczne. Piusowi XII proponowano jego zwołanie, ale odmówił, gdyż stwierdził, że kościelni liberałowie mogliby sobie za dużo ugrać. Niestety, to stwierdzenie okazało się trafne i liberałowie na soborze triumfowali. Niby w dokumentach nie ma stwierdzeń bezpośrednio błędnych, ale jest za to wiele dwuznacznych, podatnych na - nieraz nawet sprzeczne - interpretacje. Gdyby tylko pozostawiono pierwotne schematy dokumentów...

Beautiful film. It shows the reverence and splendour of our church. You cannot but recognise that this council ushered in the utter chaos that the church has been going through since Vatican 2 sadly. Novus Ordo has been a disaster, for example. Thanks for providing this film. It is of a time long since passed, unfortunately.
I feel a mix of admiration and sadness watching this video. I feel admiration at seeing how magnificent the Catholic Church was, and how it represented so well the majesty and holiness of Jesus Christ and his Gospel. And I feel sadness to know that this event, started with so much pomp, marked the beginning of the self-demolition of the Church and opened the doors of the Church to Satan, to worldliness and to the flesh. Today we are walking on rubble, and we still don't see the bottom of the well.
The Church to Satan is in your mind... the Church is the people, the people, are the world Churches all together at once. If you admire marble and worldliness clothing mora than the significant other ones, you are missinterpreating the God word... you are vain. You are unworthy of what you so call, worthy. You are worldly.
Never in the history of the Church have there been more bishops at a any council. Why do you think the Holy Spirit made a mistake? If we do not believe that Christ leads the Church by the Holy Spirit and the successors of the apostles, why do we call ourselves Catholics at all.

Personally, I think I like the procession and the pomp and seeing the Pope and Bishops more than I like the aftermath of the Council and what I see as liturgical and aesthetic/traditional decline. Bring back the Noble Guard. Bring back the tiara and the sedia gestatoria. Restore the Traditional Latin Mass as Benedict XVI did. We need a Pope to celebrate the first Papal High Mass in fifty or so years already. We're overdo for a papal coronation. Most people alive have never seen one in their lifetime.

His "Diary of a Soul" is worth reading. He was an old man who believed that the renewal of the Church would not bring anything bad. Intentions, as we know, are often good, but along the way different things happen....

@@liturgiarzymska That's the whole story of Vatican II: A bunch of people who genuinely wanted to help the Church, but unfortunaly opened the gate for much destruction. There's nothing theologically wrong or heretical in the council, but many of the things it calls for are simply not good ideas.

As I watch this ceremony in all of its splendor, I feel an inpending sense of doom. I wish that I could walk through the screen and beg them to stop, to warn them of what would come as a result of the Council. Then again, many already knew and wanted it. Still others were well meaning but ignorant. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" after all. It hurts my heart to see what the Church has become. I thank God for the preservation of Tradition, even if it is being surpressed.

The real problems actually began with the pontificate of Paul VI. The Progressives felt the wind in their sails then, and even the Pope did not have the strength (desire? will?) to stop them, even though he made it clear in public statements and in private meetings that he was not happy with what was happening.

Roncalli didn't have bad intentions, he probably didn't expect that there were such strong reformist currents in the Church or, even more so, that 2 years after his death there would be such violent and such damaging changes (with the apogee in 1969), including Latin - after all, in 1962 he published a wonderful Apostolic Constitution (sic!) on the Latin language and its cultivation in the Church.
Pope John XXIII said that he hoped that the council would teach the faith with every greater clarity and without attenuation. Can anybody with their hand on the Bible swear that this is what happened in the wake of Vatican 2?

Only by faith, and by faith only, in the finished work of Calvary’s cross can we receive forgiveness and imputed righteousness by God’s grace.
Have you read Luther's writings at all? Are you familiar with his language and views? Do you know why he renounced his faith and started making up his excuses? Surely you want to trust such a man and believe that all you have to do is believe that it will be good for it to be good? Sobór, który mógł tak bardzo umocnić Kościół, a doprowadził do straszliwego jego osłabienia. Nie twierdzę, że bez soboru nie byłoby kryzysu, ale Kościół, który pozostałby przy swoim tradycyjnym, precyzyjnym i niezmiennym nauczaniu nie zapadałby się dosłownie pod własnym ciężarem i nie szukał nowinek w postaci ideologii i prądów tego świata. Stałby się za to instytucją, do której przynależność byłaby w 100% świadomym wyborem człowieka, że chce trwać przy nauce Chrystusa. Kościół Katolicki byłby - może nieliczną - ale mocną siłą, gdyż uniknąłby tylu wewnętrznych rozdarć i podziałów, a nauka głoszona przez papieża nie budziłaby zmieszania i zgorszenia wśród wiernych.
Zwołanie soboru było w tamtym czasie potrzebne, ale bardzo niebezpieczne. Piusowi XII proponowano jego zwołanie, ale odmówił, gdyż stwierdził, że kościelni liberałowie mogliby sobie za dużo ugrać. Niestety, to stwierdzenie okazało się trafne i liberałowie na soborze triumfowali. Niby w dokumentach nie ma stwierdzeń bezpośrednio błędnych, ale jest za to wiele dwuznacznych, podatnych na - nieraz nawet sprzeczne - interpretacje.
Gdyby tylko pozostawiono pierwotne schematy dokumentów...

Beautiful film. It shows the reverence and splendour of our church. You cannot but recognise that this council ushered in the utter chaos that the church has been going through since Vatican 2 sadly. Novus Ordo has been a disaster, for example. Thanks for providing this film. It is of a time long since passed, unfortunately.

I feel a mix of admiration and sadness watching this video. I feel admiration at seeing how magnificent the Catholic Church was, and how it represented so well the majesty and holiness of Jesus Christ and his Gospel. And I feel sadness to know that this event, started with so much pomp, marked the beginning of the self-demolition of the Church and opened the doors of the Church to Satan, to worldliness and to the flesh.
Today we are walking on rubble, and we still don't see the bottom of the well.

Personally, I think I like the procession and the pomp and seeing the Pope and Bishops more than I like the aftermath of the Council and what I see as liturgical and aesthetic/traditional decline. Bring back the Noble Guard. Bring back the tiara and the sedia gestatoria. Restore the Traditional Latin Mass as Benedict XVI did. We need a Pope to celebrate the first Papal High Mass in fifty or so years already. We're overdo for a papal coronation. Most people alive have never seen one in their lifetime.

As the narrator says: the councils testify to the vitality of the Church. Unfortunately, with the pontificate of Paul VI, this seems to have gone awry....
So interesting to see the old style vestments and the very ornate papal attire. John XXIII was a humble and holy man whose brief time as Pope still resonates that he Catholic Church today.
His "Diary of a Soul" is worth reading. He was an old man who believed that the renewal of the Church would not bring anything bad. Intentions, as we know, are often good, but along the way different things happen....
Now clergy dress in rags and make a mockery of Catholic worship and doctrine.

@@liturgiarzymska That's the whole story of Vatican II: A bunch of people who genuinely wanted to help the Church, but unfortunaly opened the gate for much destruction. There's nothing theologically wrong or heretical in the council, but many of the things it calls for are simply not good ideas.

As I watch this ceremony in all of its splendor, I feel an inpending sense of doom. I wish that I could walk through the screen and beg them to stop, to warn them of what would come as a result of the Council. Then again, many already knew and wanted it. Still others were well meaning but ignorant. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" after all. It hurts my heart to see what the Church has become. I thank God for the preservation of Tradition, even if it is being surpressed.

Roncalli didn't have bad intentions, he probably didn't expect that there were such strong reformist currents in the Church or, even more so, that 2 years after his death there would be such violent and such damaging changes (with the apogee in 1969), including Latin - after all, in 1962 he published a wonderful Apostolic Constitution (sic!) on the Latin language and its cultivation in the Church.
Pope John XXIII said that he hoped that the council would teach the faith with every greater clarity and without attenuation. Can anybody with their hand on the Bible swear that this is what happened in the wake of Vatican 2?

When the Emperor Constantine declared himself to be the Summus Pontifex, what followed was more than ten centuries of Dark Ages, during which time people who professed Christ rather than Mary or the Popes, people who denied transubstantiation, were fed to lions or burned at the stake. During the Dark Ages, for a common person to read the Bible was a sin for which there was no forgiveness; and so the people were spoon-fed from the papist pulpit. Only by faith, and by faith only, in the finished work of Calvary’s cross can we receive forgiveness and imputed righteousness by God’s grace.
Have you read Luther's writings at all? Are you familiar with his language and views? Do you know why he renounced his faith and started making up his excuses?
