      @@jihochung1307 It's not that "these foreigners" know nothing about Korean history, it's that the enlistment seems more of a forced ritual, than necessary because it's unyielding to those who are making great contributions to Asian people, Korea, and the WORLD. When people are doing something positive and changing history world wide and then that momentum is stopped, it's really a crime against all of humanity at that point. BTS have become a phenomenon and are more than just k-pop Idols in the WORLDS eye, so yeah the enlistment is undergoing heavy criticism.
      The enlistment is such an ingrained mechanical ideology FORCED by law that it gives no room for an evolving society. The responses are so robotic when it comes to BTS serving in the military. It's like we don't care that they have changed history and are continuing to make history and spreading Korean culture and bringing a lot of attention to Korea and it's culture, they need to serve because.....................tradition oh and culture, even though they are doing more for the country outside the military.

      They’re gonna be gone for 2 years at the least. Who knows if they are all going together? If they don’t all go together, they will not be the full bts for a while. We can only hope that they will be gone for the shortest amount of time. The military is not for the faint of heart.

    • @Jyudee
      @Jyudee 4 года назад +5

      I hope that army is going to stay and stream but with bts not able to even speak to us through social media, their popularity world wide would certainly fade a little bit. 2 years of your life can be detrimental to their career. I still think that they will go because they have to, and it isn’t fair to those who have served.

    • @kazuhasdeadfriend191
      @kazuhasdeadfriend191 4 года назад +35

      @Judy Wu they won’t all go together. and you don’t need to worry about their popularity, they will most likely release either solo songs or do sub units while some of the members are away to keep the fans fed. and it’s obvious that they have to go, it’s not optional. the consequences are severe if they skip, especially if they’re a famous celebrity.
      i just think a lot of armys, especially new ones are confused about the whole ‘getting sent to the military’ situation. it’s not like they’re going to war, it’s just mandatory training to prepare them in the event that a war does happen. this is because of the situation with north korea and etc. they’re basically being provided knowledge to help them if something goes wrong.

    If I'm not mistaken, the congressman never specifically said that BTS needs to be exempt from the mandatory military service; a lot of translators on twitter emphasised that. He said that K-pop stars, actors, b-boys, athletes, and others who represent the country well internationally should be considered for exemptions, because currently only classical musicians and dancers, and world class athletes who represent South Korea on a global stage and achieve high results receive exemptions. That is, criteria for receiving exemptions should be broadened to reflect contemporary culture.

    Seems to me that majority of the commenters have no idea what the politician proposed. He said that the military exemption laws need to be updated to fit the current youths interests. He mentioned bboying, esports amongst other areas that should be eligible for exemption. Currently you’re exempted if you have high achievements in classical music or dance, so by that logic does it mean that your achievements in contemporary dance or music are worth less? The reason why Sonny is such a hot topic is he’s 26 right now and his only chance of receiving exemption is if South Korea wins the AFC Asian Cup next year, if not it will mean he’ll have to end his career prematurely, despite being a top class player, and return to South Korea to enlist. It’s not his fault that South Korea is struggling to produce more talent that could back him up on the national team. As an example I can bring you Lionel Messi. He’s considered to be one of the best football players in the history of the sport, but he has never won the World Cup or the Copa América and thus, if he were Korean, he’d have retire to serve in the military. For idols it’s not as bad because their companies can make do with the remaining members whilst the others are enlisted and age isn’t as important, especially for male idols. Either way, I think their policies need to be reviewed whether it’s for BTS or some other reason.

    • @MrMGR1986
      @MrMGR1986 6 лет назад +7

      Jun I imagine that it has to be tough for them to recover their career once they go into serve. Maybe they make a couple more songs/music videos, then play those periodically throughout the timespan of their mandatory service. That being said, if others of the same level of success are exempt, then maybe they should also be exempt. Korea gotta stay strong though

    • @1988kcmo
      @1988kcmo 6 лет назад +19

      None of those people, including classical dancers or musicians, should be exempted in my opinion. It creates an atmosphere of special treatment and a hierarchical system that is not healthy for society. Everybody, regardless of status, should have to serve. Korea already has problems with wealth inequality and less severe sentencing when the rich commit crimes, and giving special treatment to accomplished individuals only further continues Korea's problem of treating the wealthy like gods.

    • @doryfishie2
      @doryfishie2 6 лет назад

      If Messi was born into a country with conscription, sure, such is life, too bad. People give up their dreams all the time. If his international career was that important to him, give up Korean citizenship. It's an option, not an easy one, but an option nonetheless.

    A lot of people in the comments seem to be getting this twisted so let me straighten it out. BTS has never personally asked for exemption nor any of their fans. A congressman personally used BTS as an example of who should and should not be exempt. That's it. Again, BTS nor ARMY has ever said from their own mouths or typed from their own fingers begging for the boys to be exempt. Stop bashing people for what they haven't done.

    People in the comments saying "other idols served, they should too" or "no one's above the law", some of you probably went to the comment section first before watching the video so *PLEASE NOTE THESE FACTS:*
    1) Athletes and musicians who place 1st or 2nd in an international competition are exempted - this is a rule.
    2) This became a debate topic in Korea because a KOREAN POLITICIAN has mentioned that this rule should expand to more fields, such as actors, b-boying, and yes, idol groups LIKE BTS.
    If you watched the video, none of them brought up other idol groups. They brought up another ATHLETE's name to talk about his exception! It's about the rule of exception in korea's mandatory military, not about who's more popular than who!

    Even people who just finished their service were calmly talking about the situation, yet pressed kpop stans, who aren't Korean citizens, and won't be affected in any way by the final decision, are pressed. First of all, they were considering changing the exemption criteria so it'd be fairer to all artists, including kpop groups. This could literally benefit future groups, but y'all don't care just because it's bts. The "argument" majority of y'all have makes no sense. Saying bts should serve just because other groups had to as well in the past it's the same as saying women shouldn't vote now because back then they couldn't vote. Things are changing, get over it. There will be the "first" group who will be exempted. If not bts, another one in the future.Y'all always though it was unfair when your oppars went, that they had no choice. Well, guess what? 3. What the congressman said was not whether BTS themselves be exempt. If you listen the broadcast, he was talking about adding changes to the list of exemptions. And used BTS's level of success as an example or measure. His speech was not based on exempting the boys themselves from service.
    4. Of course people only saw snippets of what the congressman said OR listened to nothing at all and are listening to online videos and articles who are presenting the congressman's words and the issue itself out of context. And the way this question is framed in this video could come off as misleading to those who have not seen the broadcast entirely No matter what your achievements are or your social standing, if you are a male you serve. To me i think it makes sense to have people in general serve in the military for 2 years bc they're still at war. But I dont think it should be only men bc its discrimination even if biologically we are stronger. Like in the US all men at age 18 have to register for the draft (If we don't then we don't get FAFSA for college) and it there ever is a war we could potentially go to war just bc we are Male. I think that it discrimination and I wont even be patriotic about it bc I wont be part of war that I had nothing to do with.

      2 years isn't enough because of their age difference like: if Jin will go on military on 2020 to 2022, Suga will go on 2021 to 2023, Hoseok and Rm will go 2022 to 2024,
      Jimin and Taehyung will go on 2023 to 2025 and Jungkook will go on 2026 to 2028; So they will be gone for eight years plus another one year for vacation and comeback preparation. So yeah that's why some fans don't want them to enlist because they will lose so many opportunities in the next 9 years unless the younger members wanted to enlist early to be enlisted as a whole group or just the exemption

One guy a professional surfer was a life guard at the recreational center. The military has places for athletes. Even band and singers, got jobs performing for the troops. The military usually doesn't waste talent. Last year I recall a kpop singer was on a base singing for the troops, a soldier from a boy band was there doing his time. Whether a war happens 10-20-30 years from when they enlisted, they still know more than someone who hasn't. War can break out at any second, anytime. Clearly, people need to understand what the politician actually proposed. He said that currently, Korean citizens who have high achievements in classical music or dance are exempt from military service. So by this logic, shouldn't groups like BTS also be exempt? They technically do fit the requirement since they perform well on a global status. The only problem is, BTS aren't classical musicians. The debate about BTS being exempt isn't because of how popular they are. It isn't even about their popularity overseas because there have been multiple groups before them. I agree that Korean citizens shouldn't be exempt just based on their popularity. However, most people need to realize that BTS greatly supports the Korean economy. BTS is currently predicted to have nearly a BILLION dollar impact on South Korea's economy. No other kpop group or singer, with the exception of PSY, has accomplished this, which is why they haven't been exempt. However, PSY was given a special exemption where he didn't have to do regular active service. It was later discovered that he didn't actually participate much in the program which is why he had to face re-enlistment. With a group like BTS that helps represents South Korea to the world and supports the economy this much, it would be a shame to halt their success by 2 years in the middle of their carreers since they have the potential to do more. Reasons like this is why the politician thinks their policies need to be reviewed.

    • @vp98215
      @vp98215 6 лет назад +36

      groups like big bang and tvqx also have supported korean economy and helped to increase the popularity of korean wave. bts's success is more evident because of the rise in social media.. gdragon single highhandedly have contributed a lot to kpop industry and he went to military service.
      also kpop group after a certain time period wont be the hot topic anymore even if they are successful and they survive on the loyal fan base they made during their peek. groups like super junior, tvqx etc can still fill up a dorm in minutes so 2 year hiatus wont harm much to successful groups. it affects only the groups who are neither too successful nor too unsuccessful.. groups like exo and bts wont get affected much by military service. they already have more than enough fans who will wait for them.
      also bts getting excepted from military service will also tarnish their image. majority of the Koreans take military service very seriously and a lot of celebrities who got exception from military services due to health issue had to face some kind of hatred. after a certain point of time kpop idols also need the recognition from general public as well. senior groups like super junior, tvqx, big bang etc are well known among the general public as well.. so exception from military wont be appreciated by majority of the public..

Usually the Korean people who bring honour to Korea, like the Olympic medalist, some honourable pianist or violinist, I guess got exempted from military! If you think about it, BTS is bound to be exempted if the certain areas are concerned! BTS are the youngest and the only idols to receive the national award from the President himself! BTS brings about $4B to Korea's annual economy! BTS is included in Korea's national anthem video! Even the president, former president tweeted when BTS got #1 on billboard hot 100 and success for Dynamite! BTS spoke at UN! The parasite director himself said BTS has 3000 times more influence on spreading Korean culture worldwide than him( though parasite won great awards)!

As an army I am concerned for their safety, but it’s not like it’s the first time a kpop male idol has done this. I will agree, kpop has became very popular with the help of BTS, but it doesn’t mean they’re treated differently or have a “pass” to not go into the army. BTS has made it far internationally and in Korea too, but let’s put it in this mind set. If there where to be a war or a conflict and Korea needs new recruits and some of BTS members is at the age of mandatory army they should go. I love kpop and artists, but if Korea is to be hurt or destroyed because of our selfish needs like wanting BTS to not go to the army then that’s how it is. I've made a similar comment before but a lot of people didn't get my point. So here's my take on this whole situation. It's long (like an essay) but that's because this is a very touchy subject that can't be solved with an uneducated comment like "It's not FAIR if BTS doesn't serve if other famous celebrities like [xyz] have."
    1 - Currently, Korean citizens who have high achievements in classical music or dance are exempt from military service. So by that logic, shouldn't groups like BTS also be exempt? They technically do fit the requirement since they perform well on a global status. The only problem is, BTS aren't classical musicians.
    2 - The debate about BTS being exempt isn't because of how popular they are. It isn't even about their popularity overseas because there have been multiple groups before them. I agree that Korean citizens shouldn't be exempt just based on their popularity or the fact that they made it to the Billboards.
    3 - For those of you who didn't actually read my previous point and start commenting on how BTS doesn't have a net worth of a billion dollars.... please read my comment thoroughly next time. ECONOMIC IMPACT is about how BTS’ presence impact the economy in Korea, not how much money they make. Their impact can also be an indirect contribution. BTS has brought Korea's brand name on the global level, which allowed more people from all over the world to be aware of Korea and hence contributed to the increasing amount of tourists to Korea.
    4 - This suggestion wasn't made before with famous groups like Super Junior or Big Bang, which was sadly unfortunate. However, it is being brought to the spotlight now. Why does it matter if BTS are the first celebrities to be exempt? (It's not like they don't deserve it. In fact, they would be perfect representatives to be the first group to be exempt) If BTS isn't the first to be exempt from military services, then another group will eventually be in the future. If not, then this same cycle will continue forever because fans of different artists will say this isn't "fair" much like what MOST of the people down the comment section are saying now. I know it sounds moral to say special treatment isn't equal, but FAIRNESS comes before EQUALITY. (Search up the difference if you don't know)
    5 - With a group like BTS that helps represents South Korea to the world and supports the economy this much, it would be a shame to halt their success by 2 years in the middle of their careers since they have the potential to do more. Reasons like this is why the politician thinks their policies need to be reviewed. I know 2 years may not seem like much for loyal fans, but this can really slow down BTS' success since they're at the peak of their careers. Also, keep in mind that there are big age gaps between the members meaning fans won't get to see all 7 members at the same time for more than 2 years (which can ruin their success). At the end of the day, South Korea's economy will benefit more if BTS continue with their careers right now then to have them as 7 more soldiers in the army that SK can surely do without.
    6 - Finally, as an ARMY, the exemption probably won't stop BTS anyways. You can tell from their personalities that they would probably want to serve anyway, which is fine. I'm just saying that they should be given the choice to serve and not forced, considering how much they helped with SK's economy. Heck, they don't even need to get exempt. Maybe shorten their time to 6 months or delay their service when their careers is over or died down. Whatever helps the economy better.
    If you actually read my very, very, very long comment.... then thank you. You actually had the patience to read through this whole comment and to that, I commend the.

      I would also like to mention that 2 years can also endanger their voices. "Singers train their voices like athletes train their bodies. A voice does lose form without training like how a body does. It requires warm-ups and daily training. Singers spend years training their voices and practicing how to sing until it comes naturally to them. 2 years without singing is a huge setback for a singer too. Same with the dancing. Some of these guys have been dancing their whole lives and the others for 7-8 years. Not to mention the training necessary to be able to sing live and dance hardcore chores at the same time as they do. These guys train like 10 hours a day. So 2 years will definately ruin that?"

    • @liz2668
      @liz2668 6 лет назад +62

      +Emmy Sweet
      I understand your valid point but think about it this way. BTS has helped the SK's economy greatly. (1 billion dollar impact) Do you think any normal human male in SK has also done this contribution to the economy? Highly unlikely. That's what I'm trying to say. BTS has already helped the economy greatly that more people should be aware of. Isn't it kinda unfair if they also serve the military, making them serve MORE to the economy than an average male? The fact is most Korean males don't contribute greatly to the economy which is why they must do service. However, BTS is different as they already contributed greatly, just not by military service. If this brings shame to South Koreans then that just proves how bad of a mindset they have. It's time for people to be more open-minded on how complicated this system is and actually understand why the politician thinks their policies need to be reviewed.

If just imagine a huge opportunity is coming up for BTS in future which is even gonna rise Korea up through their name and they get enlisted, like everybody now knows that everyday BTS is breaking records and the U.S is everytime up for making them a part of their huge projects, (like recent Micheal Jackson's tribute even but cause of their packed schedule they couldn't participate), which is even such a great opportunity for Korea for working on an international level. They should support them and let them rise Korea in music field internationally. If yet BTS is rising up Korea so much in this music field so Korea and Knetizens should even co-operate and let them stay in this field and continue making their success. BTS is special rest of the Korean Mens serve the Country by enlisting them but let BTS serve Korea at another level internationally.

      Lola Philipp im sure their career in korea would be fine but depending on how long they can put off the first enlistments aka how much they still have time to grow internationally, their international success could be damaged. if they get to a point of success in the west they can probably do their enlistments and come back and still do great outside of korea, but if they dont get to establish their position properly in the west they might lose the hype and big success there. i think they will be fine in korea. im all for them serving in the military, as a fan of bts.

    This is a really interesting debate that I had no idea was happening, so thank you for sharing! I'm an outsider so don't know how much weight my comment has, but I wonder if there could be a compromise or negotiation of served time. Rather than doing a full 2 years, maybe they could do 6 months to 1 year. I really like what one of the last men said, where serving in the army contributes to your growth and development as a person. I think it would also be an opportunity for idols to be role models to their citizens and say, "I know you have to serve, and I did, too. We have this in solidarity." But this way they also wouldn't have to compromise their career or influence the way being gone for 2 years would.

  • @dereknam1070
    @dereknam1070 6 лет назад +29

    As a Korean man myself whose family has been to the military, I personally think both sides make valid points. I'll be honest and say a lot of ARMYs I've seen have been delusional and disrespectful towards other older Korean idols/figures, but this obviously doesn't apply to the entire fandom. I initially thought it was ridiculous and even insulting to consider this band exempt from service, because for us, it's a civil duty. Unless it's special cases such as cancer/illness, or situations where athletes cannot come back to the country for some time, I didn't see why someone without these circumstances should be exempt. After all, Korean bands typically have comebacks within 1-3 years depending on the company and their policies.
    That being said, BTS has made tremendous contributions, and there is no denying that they've spread the word of our country's music throughout America. Am I fan of BTS? Not really, but I do enjoy a few of their songs. Do I think they've done a good job to spread the hype of Korean music? Most definitely. That being said, they're not the only band to do so-- a few other bands have certainly paved the way for us, and because of those bands (a lot of whom are BTS' sunbaenims) including BTS, I'm happy we're getting the recognition we deserve.
    Even so, my answer is still yes, they should. Not doing so would be like buying the law with money. They're talented enough to come back strong. Maybe they can have it pushed back later, like it has happened with many others, but for now, I think it is the morally right thing to do.
    Let's be real, though. The members of BTS seem like pretty great guys. Knowing them, I'm sure they'd insist on serving anyway, because they love their country as much as the rest of us do. Laws do take time to be passed, and things can't change rapidly based on a boy band's fame, but whatever happens, things will be fine for us.

    •  6 лет назад

      MH Nam I don't think "buying the law with money" is the correct phrase to use when they are literally self-made artists who got big solely because of their talent and a little bit of luck with social media. That would be saying that other musicians and atheletes are doing the same because no one will know if they had any strings to pull behind. I think the correct way to approach this issue is to set the standard for artists to achieve before they are entitled military service exemption like winning a globally recognized award, the same as all musicians and athletes. After all, they are all representing their country, not mentioning the economical benefits they are bringing in for their country. So, why would you award one person, but disregard another person when both of them had the same achievements?

    • @dereknam1070
      @dereknam1070 6 лет назад +1

      SY C SY C I never said they were buying the law with money, that was a general statement to say it’s a very similar analogy. Additionally, I already addressed everything you said in my response. If you’re seeing this as an attack to BTS of any kind, you’re missing the point. Athletes and kpop bands are different, especially in the sense that athletes don’t get breaks for comebacks like idol groups do. Even if BTS serve, the possibility of coming back successfully is very strong, especially considering their fan base. This has been an occurrence for even idols who haven’t achieved globally, so for BTS, there wouldn’t be as big of a risk as there would be for an athlete who is overseas and can’t make it back to Korea for an indefinite period of time. BTS also is not the only band to represent Korea. It’s right that they serve unless the new law is implemented officially. I still stand with my opinion; they should serve, and I feel that they’re patriotic enough to do so, but if the law makes them (along with others of similar achievements) exempt, I wouldn’t be against it either as long as it is fair.

    The rules for exemption has always favored those in athletics and not in the arts. BTS is being used as an example bc where they are does not fit exactly into the only kind of circumstance singers get as grounds for exemption. They have brought $1B into Korea's economy, boosted the tourism industry and have given Korean artists a easier platform to get global exposure bc of their success overseas much of it being 1st's for any Korean Artist. They're not just being considered bc they're popular it's bc their success has been converted into something that has benefited all of Korea. The rules need to be updated anyway bc they're unfair to a lot of those in performing arts professions. BTS don't start serving until 4 yrs from now and even if in that time they achieve something big that Korea can't ignore and they grant them an exemption BTS most likely won't accept bc they're very proud and patriotic men for their country.

      And... Company value has very little thing to do with their artists' achievement. It's way way more complex than that. And there's no waaaay at all, big hit worths a billion dollars. Their company value in 2017 is around 57million dollars (source : forbes).

If they need to serve they should wait another 4-5 years when BTS momentum drop or if there is another group who comes after them and able to contribute that much. I personally think BTS should serve and Jin also said hinself if he is called then he will go. But I still think if they go, they should go in 5 years after their popularity drop. S. Korea should utilise BTS popularity while they can.

    If bts are really going to the military we army should be happy for them even if we cry because when bts cryed they still put a smile up for us now we need to do the same..bts might leave but that dosnt mean there 100% gone we still can play there songs/be there fan forever we may be hurt when they leave but this probably will hurt bts more then us so lets be proud of them..bts will still be there and army will to 😭😃 let's enjoy them now and stop thinking about this 👍😃❤

      I think only 1 or two will be gone at a time. The others can still perform and put music out. I think big Hit would rather have a few BTS rather than no BTS at all.

    How can y'all misunderstand the issue so bad? The talk was about equality in their country and how it should be enforced. The specific case here is exemption. In Korea, people in certain fields get exemption IF they have a huge impact and represent the country, but this applies to a few fields only. There are other fields with people making Korea proud and bringing a positive influence home in terms of rep and money, but they don't get exemptions because they don't belong to that small selection of fields.
    BTS are breaking huge barriers and doing a lot in terms of worldwide rep, and they've brought huge benefits economically speaking. They're a movement that people scramble to replicate because of how many benefits they bring with them. Hell, the President wrote them a letter to thank them for it. So BTS are an example of somebody deserving an exemption because it is more beneficial for Korea if they don't dissapear for a few years in order to do military, but they're not able to be offered one bc they're not part of the fields which for now allow for such a thing.
    The talk was about changing that and BTS was an EXAMPLE.
    Now to the question:
    Do they deserve it? Obviously.
    Will they accept if they're offered an exemption? That's on them and I won't sway one way or the other like some fans do when answering, bc we're not in that situation and we're not them.
    They deserve to be presented with the choice, though, as well as other people that are bringing benefits to Korea but whose efforts are not recognized enough, like those of a pianist for example, to warrant such an offer despite it having the same, if not more, value, and that's an unfairness present in the system that should be fixed beyond the issue of BTS going or not going to the army.

      alyilen i do like what they do but it’s only music i would love them to be a better exemple and serve the army it’s not about bringing money or any of that everybody is working hard not only bts (love them) but we need to be more mature and understand that they will not always sing it’s only a period of time

      True.... Misunderstandings and assumptions should be avoided in handling matters of the country and its citizens.... It is what causes assumed opinions.... People should be unbiased and not be purposefully bashful.
      Thanks.

      You really have no concept of the importance of what they're doing. In such a situation, the honor of going to the army is just a myth. Most ppl don't want to go anyway, it is forced on them. What honor there is in that? But that's more my pov and the honor thing is yours. Let Koreans decide what brings more honor and if they get the offer, let BTS decide whether the go or not.

    If your still a korean citizen you should serve in the military, plain and simple, just because BTS are Billboard Artists doesn’t exempt them from doing what they by law have to do.

    • @selinademir2274

      As if it's just because of Billboard. If classical musicians can be exempted for winning awards and even football players, it makes sense to me to give the option to pop artists too. Especially BTS because of the huge impact to Korean's global economy and tourism. They made it very far internationally and you can't compare their success worldwide to any other Korean act at the moment. I'm not Korean but Policians themselves discussed that it would be more beneficial to SK if BTS stays instead of serving in the military.

      Bruh, you just say the same thing over and over. Look over the rules. some of those football players have serve military time and there are certain things to get exempted from it. Samsung, a company in Korea, shouldn’t the workers get exempt too because they impacted the economy of Korea more than BTS? Big Bang is doing their time right now, so why can’t BTS do it? It’s their duty to serve the country.
      Golly, it’s not the end of the world.

      Bruh, serving for the military doesn’t mean you serve for war or violence, what logic did you come up with that? They’re just serving for the military and their country because they’re technically still at war. Law is a law, if you don’t follow it, you’re a criminal, simple as that. I would rather see them serve than go to prison. Your use of analogy is horrible, colleges cannot forced you to drop out, colleges just want their money. If colleges do that, there’s no point of going to college and colleges will disappear due to lack of money. They have a chance because of fans, other groups can have exposure too if they are given the same platform as BTS. Workers that work for major companies in Korea should get exempted too, they generate more money overseas that BTS like Samsung, Hyundai, Kia etc., they might not be popular by sure do help a lot in representing Korea. So no, they should serve, they’re citizens and should be treated like one when it comes to serving.

      PSY did way more than BTS honestly, he was actually known by the general public, like BTS is gaining fans and that's awesome but besides their fandom nobody knows them. So the "no act can compare" hum, try again.

    I say BTS contributed to Korea’s tourism and economy
    Who’s with me?
    Edit: jk! I think that every Korean man no matter what should serve, it’s their responsibility as a Korean and I’m very glad that they r going anyways. Just hope that they’ll come back safely:) plus the exception is for athletes who compete for the nation, which is very different in BTS’ case as they were created not for the nation but for their own interests, it just turns out they got a huge influence. If they got an exception, Korea’s companies like samsung could’ve got an exception too as Samsung is such a huge brand. So although it’s kinda sad to see them leave but I believe it is what they should do

    Even they are korean but many of them dont think that bts didnt done that much thing for korea or didnt think that BTS is always represent koren so....
    I heard that in korea social they always look down on idol and especially look up to athlete sooo much because they make other people know about korea(even some idol or some single do that too like psy, i think psy is the most famous korean) That might true..
