I had an encounter with a wolf years ago. I was out hunting and was tired so I sat on a stump to wait for my husband who had gone up ahead. I started to nod off but had that weird feeling something was watching me so I looked up and the biggest wolf I had ever seen was about 25 feet away trying to sneak by me to a stand of jack firs on the other side of the logging road. I stayed still and just spoke calmly to it never taking my eyes off it. It slowly walked on always watching me until it got into the trees. My husband didn't believe me until I showed him the paw prints in the mud. They were as big as my hand! Scary, but also really cool to see up close.
Wow! That's so cool. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
Wow, glad you're okay and THANKS for sharing. Really cool.
Typical hubby lol 😁
@@cintiapollock2486 The funny thing was when we got back to the truck there were bear prints all the way around our truck. We were lucky it didn't break in and steal our lunch! He didn't debate those prints! The thing was, in our area (Western Washington) there was not supposed to be any wolves in that area. It was a few years later that we learned that some had been quietly re-introduced without telling hunters.
That is so cool! I got chills thinking about being in you’re situation,we r avid outdoorsman in BC Canada and I have never been that close to a wolf lolol down in the valley was my closest view.
Carolyn, I know you've left Michigan by now, but I really hope you were able to stop at some roadside stands for fruits, vegetables, and baked goods. We have awesome agriculture here, and lots of places... throughout the entire state...that make every or most things from scratch!! Plus it's the Midwest, so that means LOTS of comfort foods, casseroles and hot dishes (tho those are more during the cold months). Michigan is a fantastic place to be if you're a Foodie 💜🤚💜🇺🇸💜
Good to know! I'll have to watch for that next time!
@@CarolynsRVLife After watching that entire vid, you did get some fruit 💜💜 So glad you enjoyed my beautiful state and I hope your tire issue didn't sour your view.
It’s so nice to see something else than the Arizona desert!! I’m loving it! Fun videos!
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you so much for joining me!
Agreed
That puppy dog face! Love it!!! ☺
You are in one of my favorite places in Michigan. Whitefish point and the shipwreck museum are definitely worth a visit. I love Michigan in the Summer.
#226 My Home! I bid you welcome. My Michigan. These were the big lakes I learned to helm the ships over. I wheeled before the SS Edmond Fitzgerald sank, Nov. 10, 1975. These are the lands of Hiawatha! Thank you for enjoying it!
You remind me of the wonderful writing that I want to hang in my RV
" Not all who wander are lost"
LOVE it! Safe travels Laura!
I live here in Michigan and I love it! ❤️ It really is a beautiful state.
You and Sadie. What a Team.
👍 The storm/thunder training tip for Sadie is AWESOME! I am going to have to give that one a try next storm :) Safe & Happy Travels
It really does work! Thanks for watching Mo!
I love UP Michigan! So refreshing to be near the lakes and small towns along the way.
Agree, Upper MI is beautiful! Was raised in MI and lve the spring and fall. Enjoy safe travels
Hi Carolyn hi pretty Sadie girl 💕🐾💕🐾 Wow she's so big and so beautiful and those face shots of her were awesome💞💞 Great video I really enjoyed it even the poop pictures🤣🤣
LoL😄, safe travels to you and Sadie. Wherever you are.
I visited the Shipwreck Museum when I was in the UP, they have the original Bell of the Edmund Fitz. and a movie of the shipwreck, it's pretty sad, So many ships are at the bottom of that Lake!
Lake Superior is huge and more like an ocean than a lake. I live in Canada, the Canadian side of the lake never fails to amaze me how beautiful and unspoiled the area is between Sault Ste Marie and Wawa, on the trans Canada highway. There is nowhere else that matches Lake Superior. It can be very treacherous one day and beautifully calm the next. Huge white sandy beaches with usually no one else there.
Oh girl, taking pictures to magnify and read - I'm right there with you! 🤣🤣
I absolutely loved the Upper Peninsula and we really enjoyed Eagle Harbor. I sure hope you were able to go to Pictured Rock and ride the ferry. It was so beautiful.
I was in Maine for the first time last summer. I traveled around Maine and New England all summer in my RV. Boondocking was super challenging but I loved those cute towns, all the lakes, and of course, the rocky shoreline. Bucket list item for sure! I was in the UP 3 years ago and you are pumping up the nostalgia! Great video!
So glad you went there. I cannot wait to return. Such a cute and historical area. And when I was camping I ran into a local that was actually picking thistle berries for herself and showed me how to spot them.
Later I camped near Paradise, MI. So cute and friendly. I definitely will be back.
Also, cool the pads of Sadie when she's overheated. That's how they (sweat) and cooling the paws/pads will help her tremendously!
Safe travels and thanks for watching!
My husband is Gordon Lightfoot's #1 fan having been to over 40 concerts in his 72 years. He owns every single CD that Gord has ever made, as well as every DVD and documentary made of and by him. We met him once after a concert when he was staying in the same hotel as we were in PA, and my husband has an autographed concert ticket from when he met Gord in 1974. Needless to say, it hangs in a hallowed spot in our house. In case some of y'all don't know, Gord wrote The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald because he felt like the news story of the tragedy didn't get enough publicity at the time.
That is awesome Susan! thanks for sharing that with me and thanks for watching!
I love Michigan my home state
What a fun week you and Sadie had!!! As always.. awesome video 🦋🥰🐕
It was! Thank you!
Loved the scenery! I have got to go to the UP. Looking at those old motels was like stepping back in time. Thank you for taking us along!
I love your videos they have uplifted me so much since I've been sick always want to go to UP and I guess I just went through your videos thank you so much.....Suzanne
I agree :) Carolyns videos are very uplifting. I hope you feel better soon 🙏
Hi Suzanne. I'm sorry to hear you've been sick and honored that I get to virtually take you places that uplift you!! Take care and sending you big healing hugs from Sadie and me !
Yes im the one that ended up with the delta virus and being fully vaccined. And it was ruffle I truely thought I wouldn't make it, but yes your videos kept me going, oxygen still under 93 but better than around 88 for a week but anyway I traveled though you..... Thanks
Lived in Copper Harbor area a couple of years.
Magical country!
Those Beach sounds in a place that wasn’t on the sea were the most authentic sounds I’ve ever heard in a video. I felt like I was back on the beach in Florida watching the sunrise and listening to all of the creatures of the air. Gorgeous.
You can get them at landfills also…🙂
Thank you Lorna! Glad you enjoyed it.
The coffee lady was so nice, very engaging and welcoming 🌞
Sunday night...here I am...doing my regular Sunday wind down before back to work tomorrow. Nice vlog.
You stopped at the best place in copper harbor. Every May I backpack on Iyale Royal a long ferry ride from Copper. It’s like the garden of Eden on the island. There are moose, wolves, beaver an incredible amount of bird diversity and don’t even get me started on the diversity of birds. In the U.P. There are so many forest roads to boon dock on. Not a lot of camp grounds. Defiantly plenty of bears up there.

Thimble berries are some of my favorite berries, too, as well as huckleberries, blackberries, and salal berries if you get the right patch. I enjoyed this video very much.
You educate us while entertaining us. Love it!
Wow that's so beautiful where you are at! Wish I could be there.
I have bears, coyotes, cougars, bobcats, deer, and all sorts of other wildlife on my property. Mama Bear has a den by our creek, and we see her and her babies every spring. I've seen cougar on my driveway. All the wildlife come come fairly close. I keep my eyes open, and have never had any problems! Even my chickens stayed safe (back when I had them). My animals always ran free until houses were built closer, making the wildlife hunting territory smaller, which means more sightings on my property. Now I have to keep an eye on them if they are outside!
Oh wow, Patricia! Stay safe and thanks for watching!
Love ❤️ donuts 🍩 can’t get enough.
The area with all the little old motels was awesome! So charming! I’d love to stay in one those someday. I never knew Michigan had so many beautiful spots. I need to visit that state. Thank you for another great post! Stay safe!
✌🏻🙂✌🏻
PS Sadie was such a good fit for you.. Perfect match.
Yes, I think so too!! I love my girl!
@@CarolynsRVLife such a CRAZY good match!
"Girl in the Woods" has property in the UP of Michigan...
It's a very popular tourist area
It does look like a great place to visit :)
Hello Carolyn, it's so beautiful there!
Carolyn - we are a couple months behind you but agree whole heartedly - the UP is incredible! Tonight we are outside Grand Marais on a logging road. We explored Copper Harbor a week or so ago. Really a neat little town. Wish we had found the vegan donuts. Loving your videos. Tomorrow: Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. I've been fascinated with the Edmund Fitzgerald since it happened. We noticed all the berry bushes but alas, this time of year they are pretty well picked out.
Safe travels!
Thank you for watching! Safe travels and happy trails to you!
OMG the UP. I soooo miss it there. I'm downstate. I need to make a drive up there.
Great video…I was there at MTU during the record snowfall. Such a beautiful place. Brings back memories.
Put a bell on Sadie while you're walking in unknown area. I use a small copper one on my kids. Shaped like a square. Works awesome.
Have a great time.
Great tip! Thanks for watching!
Hey Carolyn, My father was about 200 miles or so north of Lake Superior the day the Fitzgerald sank. He came home because everything stopped working. His compass was spinning, his camera wouldn't work, he had a hard time getting his car going. But when he got home everything worked fine. He's convinced that the wreck and his issues were connected. I don't know , but definitely weird. U had a nice spot! Did u see the houses with doors on the 2nd level without stairs?
Have fun and take care
Those berries grow everywhere in Michigan! In some places, they’re considered a weed because they spread everywhere by underground runners. They will takeover your garden if you’re not watching... (although watching doesn’t stop them, lol!) I let them grow around my property edges and in some areas of my yard because they are such a treat when ripe. And the local birds love them too.
I was stationed in The Soo back in the '70s.
You got to see the huge snow thermometer! I got my pix standing next to it a few years ago! Love your Copper Harbor trip!
What a wonderful video. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Carolyn ..there is alot of dispersed camping in Minn..I've been watching Kenny of all trades..He takes us to alot of campgrounds...He enjoys camping alone..on the weekends...
Your such a good doggie mommy. Love the small town in UP
"top of the morning" back at you from Ireland, btw you will never hear the phrase here in Ireland.
LOL. not surprised at all to hear the Irish never say that. :-)
I really enjoy your travels. I have never been to Michigan but one day.....
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching Jeri!
So, I camped in Munising (?) Cool town. Took the Pictured Rocks boat ride at sunset, there's A MEMORY!!, 40 miles if gorgeous imagery, and the cleanest water! Learned that they built the hospital , with patients rooms aimed at the view of Lake Superior ...never thinking about the snow, which gets SO DEEP- the windows are covered most of the winter!🤣
My mom used to make black berry dumpling, delicious. 🙂
Yummy 😋
Really excellent video, Carolyn. Thank you.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful video and the site is just beautiful!!!!!
And I love the fog…. You always have the best video and especially you also include Sadie your beautiful dog.
I see others video channel, But I LOVE YOUR BEAUTIFUL VIDEO:), CAUSE YOU TAKE US FOR A BEAUTIFUL RIDE WITH YOU:).
And I love your full of hair is beautiful can’t wait to see all white… is going to look beautiful:).
I’m 58 years old and my hair is all white and my grandchildren tell me grandma ,… where you born with white hair 😂…. I tell them no 😂
And your dinner looks yum.
Please be safe and your dog,
She a get protector for being so young :)… that’s a good thing,
Thank for watching and thanks for letting me know you appreciate my vids! More to come!
I love that you were in Michigan, my home. And you got to taste Thimbleberries!
My Golden was terrified of storms . But she loved popcorn! So at the first clap of thunder, I made air popped popcorn. Every time it thundered I’d feed her the popcorn. Like Sadie, she learned to associate storms with her special treat. I also wanted to comment, Sadies coat is so healthy and shiny!! She looks great!
Our fur babies are so smart! Love it! Thanks for tuning in Deb!
It would be interesting to see you travel to The UK like you did to New Zealand. You'd love the Lake District, Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Scotland.
That Unity Vibration kombucha sounds delicious. Hah, I guess rose water is not everyone's cup of tea. 😜
Thanks for the videos!
Great video! Copper Harbor looks excellent. I love those cute motels too...reminds me of being on road trips as a kid. Just a wonderful video!👍👍👍👍👍😊
I did a 1300 mile loop through VT to the NE side of ME. I was moteling it for the whole trip for work. Many of them were awesome. Everything up there is mom & pops. Real hospitality.
Same with parts of the Adirondacks!
Great video. I like the history lessons along the way. I have a sister in Kincheloe, (200 miles from where you were), but I've never been to Michigan before. So thank you for traveling to MI, it is gorgeous there. I live in the Sierra's in Ca, in a little remote town, with abundant mountain lions and black bears. Many people here are so scared of those lions, but they really don't want to have anything to do with humans. We probably taste terrible.
I have a hassock like that .Found it at Ollie’s. Great storage and a foot stool!
Don’t forget your run in with bears in Alaska, Denali.
Sadie is a wonderful dog! Very well behaved.
Shes a nice dog!!
That donut which fell is so much like the ice cream which falls from the cone... Slippery fingers. Liked you shared that moment...so cozy of the shop to immediately order another one, for free, of course! Wild berries, loved this video!
Carolyn, I love your story and channel! Bought your eBook, studied it. You've completely inspired my daughter and I to have our own adventures! 🤍 And about this vid, Sadie is the cutest ever and you're such a good puppy-mama! We're also vegan and gluten free and the recipes you made look delicious! Do you have a cookbook (or one coming out)??
Thanks for sharing this with me! Love hearing that my adventures are inspiring to other women. Travel safe and stay adventurous! No cookbook...for now ;)
Thanks for the dog Training tips🐕👍
I hope they help Jean!
You really have followed my trail. I was in Copper Harbor too. There is a first come first served campground as you head Southwest straight out of town. It’s on the right. Not immediately on the lake but close. Great location. Hope you found it. I’m now in NY on the Hudson River. Leaving in a few days heading South to some warmer weather. Getting cold here today. Happy travels and stay safe and healthy.
Thanks for watching Cathy! Safe travels to you as well!
I live with wolves and Coyotes around. Only been bothered by coyotes. Noise didn’t scare them off. But they will trail you. Definitely unsettling feeling.
Oh my goodness...being stalked by a coyote or wolf...no thank you! Thanks for watching!
Very nice
I thought of that joke also. The version I was told was it was full of bear bells and smelled like bear spray. If you watch “Sharing the Wild” , he talks as well sometimes just hey bear, hey bear. He is in Canada and in grizzly territory. Interesting info about the shipwrecks.
I hope you stop at a cute old hotel so we can see it! Love this area.
Sadie has a beautiful glossy coat
The bears DO eat berries. Primary food source.
Yes.
I can add, DO NOT turn your back or break eye contact with a feral mother cat. She would hurt me if I turned. Thank God I had seen a nature documentary not to turn your back on tigers.
She had delivered under my sofa. I learned to backwards walk out of my house to exit until the babies were big enough to explore out from under the sofa. I would let my hand rest on them as they scampered by. Mama would charge me to "rescue" the babies, knocking them away from me like bowling pins. I would let my hand pass over her, too, as she raced by to knock them away. Eventually I realized she was moving more slowly past me and enjoying the contact. She and her babies became beloved pets. 🥰
You’re such a good Doggie Mamma. I am the same way with mine. Love them more than any human. Ooops, did I say that.
Looks like bear. Loves those berries.
I grew up in Michigan but sad to say I never got to the UP. It is a true regret!
yes they have little motel's/hotel's like that all over the coast line towns of Maine, but hurry they start shutting down for the winter pretty soon, my cousin lives in Kennebunkport and they have some a few blocks from the harbor, but Kennebunkport is busy with little shops so i'm thinking too busy for your taste but I think you might like to drive or walk through as it is a cute town, best fried clams right there on the port bridge, it's called the clam shack, whole clams none of those strips.
Just watched the video Fonuts, Shipwrecks and Boondocks. You made me.laugh with tje story about how do you recognize bear poop its covered in bear bells. That cracked me up. Love to watch you been a fan for a while love to watch your journey. Be safe be careful. Lots.of.guestions I'd love to ask you but you might not have time to answer them.
My hubby and I are going through the middle of America next summer for at least 6 months. I can't wait to see the U P. ❤
Pancake Bay provincial park has a lookout where you can see the spot where the Edmond Fitzgerald sank in 1975. You really should come over to the Canadian side of Lake Superior. It is breathtakingly beautiful with white unspoiled beaches. Usually nobody else on the beach. A well kept secret.😀
Thanks for sharing this with me. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for watching!
Oh my gosh, when I get to the UP, I am definitely going to go see those cute motels
What a great video. I would be in berry heaven. I’d be canning lots of jellies and preserves.
You and me both! Thanks for watching Nancy!
6:00 Awww I was wondering if you would reference the song. I lived in West Michigan near Lake Michigan and never made it up to the UP. This song has always haunted me since childhood and still makes me cry. What a tragedy.
Was going to suggest some places to go to in Michigan. But realized by the heat and the berries that this video is a couple of months old. (Berries were done producing in August)(lol).
Hope you enjoyed our state both Upper and Lower have wonderful places to see.
Especially now that Autumn is here. Trees are beautiful with there different colors and cider mills are great to visit right now.
If you ever get a chance visit Mackinac (pronounces mac-in- awe) Island. It's beautiful.
There are so many places that could be suggested.
Hope your visit makes you want to come back.
P.S. so funny. I wrote the above BEFORE I watched entire video where you said it was mid August. My granddaughter thought it was so funny.
lol, thanks for watching! My vids are always on a delay :)
Loved your video!
You look happy and healthy and doing what you do best, with Sadie✌️
Glad you found some privacy.
Thanks for another great UP video. I visited Copper Harbor and surrounding areas a few years ago and this brought back some great memories. And I agree that the general store there is a gem.
Sadie said she would've eaten that donut that fell on the ground lol
Years ago, I spent my honeymoon there. It's beautiful.
Who could say no to that sweet face?? Sadie is so stinkin cute!!
Lovely! And very informative about bears, etc. Those berries looked yummy!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
The people in the UP are so friendly! ❤️
Owl poop is interesting. The bones are to the center and the fur is to the outside so it is softer to pass.
If you are seeing fur and bones you are seeing what is cast or regurgitated from the owl by mouth. They can’t digest or pass these so they are cast out by mouth. Interesting to find because you can tell what the owl has been eating by breaking these apart. I guess you could call it poo but not in the usual sense.
@@nancydenmark1614 Thank you! That makes so much more sense. I didn't ever see how the innards could work such magic. I heard this back in the days before the internet. Many thanks.
@@sleepycalico when I was in high school, we fostered an owl in the science class and that was one of the lessons that we learned. This was in the early 70’s and I never forgot it because it was such a unique concept at the time. I since learned other raptors and a few other birds do the same thing.
@@nancydenmark1614 Your class fostered an owl!!! This story just gets better and better! lol Thank you so much for sharing! 💙🦉💚
@@sleepycalico so should I mention the 5’ boa constrictor named Noah that was donated to the class? She was named before the previous owner knew it was a female. Yeah it was an interesting science department.
