I went to Las Vegas in the summer of 2018. I entered Extreme weapons and musical weapons in all 3 age categories I qualified for. I am 47 years old. In all 6 divisions there was not a single competitor. Not one person. What happened to sport karate? I had a tournament in 1994 that had 50 competitors in just one weapons division. This is a really cool sport and I just don't understand how sport karate has almost dis appeared to nothing
I agree when you watch open forms its all Gymnastics You don't see any more real martial arts moves like when's the last time we've seen somebody take their leg shoot it straight up with a side kick and hold it there we never see that but we see a million backflips

In 1994 you were in your early 20s. Even today there is a lot of competitors at that age. But not as many in the older ages as you have discovered.

katas are expression of style. And this is a tournament.. not a "show."
It's not an actual skill that can block or blow an effective attack on enemy, I know his performance was awesome, but still.. 🤕
