    You could tell that Palpatine was afraid of Vader. Look at how clunky Vader's suit was. He wanted to restrict him as much as he could. What he failed to realize is that Vader cared more about his family. Just because he was a Sith Lord doesn't mean that he didn't have his morals. He killed a whole race because they hurt his mom. He joined the Sith because he was afraid of losing Padme.

    liked the video but you missed the point. palpatine could see into the future. when he said he would train Anakin in the dark side of the force, he never meant he would he would work on saber work or lightning, he trained him with the suit he placed him in. he trained him by locking him into his own private prison, sealed away from the love of his wife and children. everything that drove him to the dark side, saving what he loved most, was taken from him, causing him to hate himself, and everything he had become. constant pain, self loathing, self hatred, his loss of humanity, that was his training. palpatine created the most powerful sith Lord in centuries.

      Bozzy Snopps Vader didn’t need lightning, he was a Juggernaught. His force shield could stop heavy repeaters, lightsabers, and even many smaller arms detonations, and his grip was absurd... able to pull jedi into the path of his blade, rather than actually needing to keep pace with a faster enemy.

    • @8iosatlost209
      @8iosatlost209 3 года назад +2

      Darth Sidious was wrong, thinking he could see into the future. With every single, actually insignificant detail that was preserved, he lost more sight of what was to come and fell into more ruin of what seemed to be coming. When he said to Master Yoda, "Your arrogance blinds you Master Yoda," he assumed that this was so because he assumed that he was feeling himself. And his arrogance was ultimately what brought him down. Assuming the arrogance he could see the future, which is known to be in constant motion. After all, he didn't see that Vader was going to kill him. He saw this blurred, but could not interpret it correctly. That one thing in the future, which was probably set in stone as a logical certainty in every single option of putting the moving parts together, determined his actions regarding the way he dealt with Vader. But that one thing right under his nose was also what shows how much his arrogance was deceiving him. Weakness. At the very last moment, when it was too late, Sidious realized that he had been fooling himself.

    1- He's pretty much fully trained as a Jedi. Jedi and Sith undergo lots of similar training, at least as far as combat and force powers go. Anakin was only lacking in the super advanced techniques.
    2- Being a cyborg, Anakin can't use Force lightning, as that would fry his suit and kill him.
    3- Darth Vader did get trained. He used a technique called Dun Moch, which specializes in demoralizing enemies and driving them to rage, against Luke in both his duels. Plus there was the fact that there's about 20 years of time that we don't see, so we can safely assume at some point that Vader got some training in.
    I personally still think Anakin was the Chosen One, as he brings the Jedi to, essentially, two members, and the Sith at two members. We know that's not technically the case, but for all practical purposes, there was balance. And as for destroying the Sith, he does convert and then kill Palpatine, so prophecy fulfilled.
    I also buy into the notion that Palpatine intentionally handicapped Vader by giving him a bulky and unwieldy suit. It took quite a bit of time, but Vader did eventually master the suit. Given time, I think he could have found a way to defeat Palpatine even with it (and he does, when you think about it!). It might be Legends now, but Vader was actively searching for an apprentice, i.e. The Force Unleashed, his comments to Luke Skywalker after chopping his hand off, Shira Brie/Darth Lumiya, and the firmly non-canon Tao. Someone who trains apprentices isn't resigned to his own fate as an apprentice.
    A final comment, on Galen Starkiller Marek, I genuinely believed that Vader was training him as an apprentice for his own merit, and only turned on him when the Emperor found out and forced the issue. When Vader was shown that his apprentice wasn't quite up to snuff, then he resigned to using him as a tool to force out the rebels.

With suit I'm certain Luke could become more powerful. Without though? Honestly really doubt Luke'd ever come close to him then.

    • @eXHawk015
      @eXHawk015 7 лет назад +2

      That was Palatine's plan for killing Vader all along. Also if you read the Vader comics by Marvel (new canon) without spoiling too much, the suit is used to his disadvantage. Why force lighting wasn't used on him (other than when it kills him in RoJ), who would use it? There were only the two Sith.

    I think originally, Palpatine genuinely wanted Anakin (as Vader) to reach his full potential and surpass him, becoming the most powerful Sith ever known. However, Palpatine's plan was dismantled by Vader's defeat on Mustafar. Palpatine knew that because of his injuries, Vader could never attain the level of power he once could have. But Palpatine also recognized that Vader was still very strong in the force, despite his injuries. He saw that Vader could still be a useful tool in spreading fear of the Empire throughout the galaxy. He knew already that Vader was willing to do anything (including betraying all of his fellow Jedi, murdering his wife, and killing children) in order to attain greater power. So, Palpatine determined that keeping Vader alive could actually be worth it. The difference being that at this point Vader was just a weapon in Palpatine's arsenal, rather than a worthy apprentice who could actually overthrow the Emperor and become the ultimate Sith Lord.

      I can agree with that but with a slight tweak. Im not sure that Palpatine in the end would ever want to be surpassed. As I do think he probably had something to do with Anakin's visions that lead him to the dark side. However I do think Palpatine was envious of the power Anakin/Vader could possess and saw it as intoxicating.

    Vader learned the hard way what many Jedi Masters already knew. The Sith do not share power and those who try are usually killed by those they intend on teaching. Just look at Sidious own example. Plagueis ultimate goal was to teach most of what he knew to Sidious, but in his greed Sidious was able to kill Plagueis by betraying him, and not by surpassing him. He believed himself already powerful enough and wise enough to simply kill his master and simply take the knowledge he had stored. But in the end Sidious himself was never able to duplicate Plagueis biggest achievements.
    In the EU we get a clear view as to why Sidious wanted Anakin as his apprentice. He knew that Anakin potential was much bigger than his own, and so he most likely sought to corrupt and eventually take Anakin body for himself. Using the Essence Transfer technique he had been able to master.
    But upon seeing what Anakin had allowed in his overconfidence to happen Anakin's body, his plans were thwarted. And so he left Vader to his own devices, most likely waiting for Vader to place himself in a position he would've eventually been killed and Sidious would've simply taken the chance to find another apprentice.
    But in that regard Anakin continously surprised Sidious by being able to survive despite Vader having no real reason to live except his own hatred.
    After all, for all intended purposes Anakin had lost his wife, his son, his friends, his piece of mind, even his own freedom. He had sacrificed everything in search for power, but power always eluded him. At least the power he so craved. And Sidious even made his life harder by in the end not really teaching him anything.
    In many ways Vader became even less than Maul or Dooku.
    Yes, he kept on surviving, but he also didn't gained that much. He could not save his wife, nor could he bring her back from the dead. He lost most of his body and couldn't repair it.
    He was stuck in that black coffin of a suit. A mere shadow of his former self and constantly in suffering. Not only because of what he had lost but also what he knew in his heart he'd never gain.
    He would always be Sidious inferior, and he knew that.

    • @Stereostupid
      @Stereostupid 5 лет назад +8

      Dragonive hadn’t sidious designed that suit to hold him back make him extremely uncomfortable and weakened to force lightning on purpose sidious knew darth Vader could have destroyed him without even thinking about it that’s why he had so many things restricting him because he knew his anger would if he survived through all this would have quite possibly made him the most powerful sith of all time and in many ways he definitely was because he took out the Jedi and the sith to restore balance but Luke actually surpassed his father because he ended up with the same power but had learned so much more as a Jedi and didn’t let his anger get the best of him

    like most Sith who follow the rule of two, i think Palpatine had every reason to not make Vader any stronger in the Force than he was or else Vader would have taken his life as Palpatine did to Plagueis. That said, Vader's anger coupled with resentment and regret and perhaps guilt fed his desire to become what he is. While on screen, Vader may be the most iconic villain in cinematic history, personally, the more i look into how he became a Sith, it just seems very tragic and in many ways, I pity him.

    Many people feel that if Anakin never lost his body and was 100% organic he would be extremely powerful with the Darkside.
    I do not agree. By losing pretty much everything, he was forced to train harder then ever did before, and as such I think that Cybernetic Vader would crush Organic Vader without much effort.
    The truth is, as a full bodied organic Anakin never took training serious, he "thought" he was better then everybody else so he never applied himself. I would argue that Organic Anakin only used 50% of his potential at any time and that 50% was good enough to beat all of his opponents. Cybernetic Vader used 100% of his ability and had to constantly think of new ways to beat his opponents to make up for his own shortcomings. This action made him far more powerful in the end.

    • @BlondieGaming
      @BlondieGaming 6 лет назад +12

      TheTruthIsGonnaHurt True when he was 100% organic he never applied himself, but he had far more potential than bio mechanical Vader ever had. Anakin would become more and more ambitious until he dethroned Sidious. Which he would do after finding out that Darth Sidious did not know the secrets of the force he wanted to know

    • @TURKEYonWH3AT
      @TURKEYonWH3AT 5 лет назад +10

      Vaders suit gave him a lot of weakness. Organic Vader had no weaknesses. The suit made him slow, constantly in pain(which was good to fuel the dark side but also distracting and harmful to his mental state) it also limited his abilities as the suit was extremely vulnerable to force lighting. Which is why he almost never used it. After more training organic Vader would have easily become the most power character in the franchise

      Extreme effort to achieve stunted potential is not the same as natural effort for virtually limitless power in the force. Whether or not anakin would progress with the same try-hard personality, the canon was that "he would become more powerful than either Yoda or Palpatine". If it seemed he poured no effort into becoming the most powerful, lets not forget he was already the most powerful in his time, 3rd to Palpatine and Yoda. Obi wan only bested him because of his overall fighting experience and Anakin's mistake of arrogance.

      That is what the prequels got wrong. he did not swoop in. From the very moment he saw Anakin and felt his power in Episode 1 he took it upon himself to be a mentor/father figure sorta like Obi but pretending to be understanding of Anakins troubles and slowly over the years twisting him. That being said when Palpatine revealed himself like he did in Ep 3 he knew he was still taking a big risk. But it was a long plot, not just swooping in. Prequels did not show that well.

      Anakin had no desire to rule only power and knowledge and those desires were transformed when he became Vader. He desired to make the galaxy in his image but didn't care what happened after or to sustain its everyday mechanisms. He needed Tarkin and the Emperor for that.

    • @jonathancampbell5231
      @jonathancampbell5231 8 лет назад +18

      +Gibran Otway The fact that he tried to recruit Luke in the hopes of them both overthrowing the Emperor and bringing order to the galaxy kind of undermines that idea. Vader absolutely wanted to kill the Emperor- after all, this is the dick who lied to and manipulated him for decades and engineered the civil war he fought in, culminating in turning Anakin into a mass murderer who killed and betrayed everyone and everything he was ever loyal to-, he was just so ashamed of himself and so terrified of Palpatine that he didn't think he could do it on his own, and perhaps liked having Palpatine around to scapegoat his own personal problems ("I'm killing these people because My Master commands it"; "I can't overthrow the Emperor and make right what I've done- he is too powerful", etc.).
      But Anakin consistently believed in Order as the path to Peace, and the Empire was the tool for that, while at the same time recognising that Palaptine- whatever he said to the contrary- was not interested in either so much as he liked Power and the Dark Side, and was really little more than a psychopathic sadist who definitely did not have the best interests of the galaxy at heart.
      So, while Vader may not have "wanted" to rule the galaxy, he definitely thought that it would be better if he was in charge rather than Palpatine, even if he would acknowledge that Palaptine was a better politician than he. But he wanted revenge and he wanted Peace through Power, both of which meant he wanted the Emperor dead at his feet. The only problem was that the Emperor was too powerful and Vader felt too insecure- particularly when it came to the guy who played him like a fiddle his entire life and knew how to push every single one of his buttons-, so he kept biding his time / putting it off until the opportunity reared it's head in the form of Luke.

    Vader and Count Dooku were former Jedi trained since childhood in the ways of the force; including the path to the darkside. Surely sith holocrons would have been sufficient training? And if midichlorians are in blood cells; then Anakin's connection to the force as Vader should have been the same. Because properties within blood cells don't drop with the loss of limbs. That he now has 5.25 litres of blood instead of the usual 7 litres shouldn't make a difference; otherwise smaller species like Yoda would be very weak in the force.

    • @jacobdavison6299
      @jacobdavison6299 3 года назад +1

      The force is just as much as mental ability as it is a physical one and losing a limb and becoming utterly crippled is never something that is easy to come to terms with. I imagine it was his own thoughts that because he had lost his limbs, he would not be as strong because he lost his coordination and muscle memory. And Sith holocrons are hidden in Sith temples that require a master and an apprentice to access as seen in Rebels. So Palpatine probably refused to go with Vader to go get those holocrons because he knew that Vader could use them to train and become stronger than him.

    You actually did suggest a really cool movie idea here. I hope Disney picks up on it. The movie would be about Darth Vader's time just after becoming a Sith, all the people who came after him, who he had to conquer, his other trainers/other Sith he might have encountered etc. There is so much material there. They would need to do this soon while James Earl Jones can still do the voice.

    This video sort of helps me understand your other video on Dooku's value to Sideous. Your description of Darth Vader actually makes him not all that different from Batman from The Dark Knight trilogy. Ultimately, as Darth Vader, he didn't need training w the lightsaber. If you actually pay attention to the fighting style of Anikan in Revenge of the Sith, he barely uses the blade w two hands. Lightsabers are specifically designed to be a two handed blade, which is pretty clear indicator that Anikan mastered the blade quicker than Luke for that matter. This also explains why when he attacked Luke before sending him to the bridge in The Empire Strikes Back that it's not just multitasking, but managing to hold his power in more way, maybe even amplifying it to three or four.

      The force lightning of Sidius killed Vader. ... If they had fought, it would have been a very fast fight. ... Sidius would have easily won. ... The only reason Sidius was killed was because Sidius was caught off guard when Vader suddenly decided to save the life of Luke.

    • @bluebladex3
      @bluebladex3 7 лет назад +2

      Michael Zoran I feel that is why Vader never dared rise against Sidious because Sidious was adept at Force Lightning which is Vader's biggest weakness. Starkiller clone in SWFU2 was able to beat him because he used lightning which fries Vaders cybernetics.

  • @triodesrbetter
    @triodesrbetter 8 лет назад +28

    No, Vader literally cannot use "force lighting" because of his cybernetics. When he touched Palpatine (whilst Palpatine was using it on Luke), he knew the electricity would fry him, but he did it anyway to save Luke. As far as the other abilities, he's already a Jedi master with more sheer potential than Palpatine or Yoda. Palpatine said so himself during his duel with Yoda. Anakin did lose to Obi-Wan but we know it's because he was being pig-headed not because he was weaker. Remember, Anakin beat Dooku straight up, while Dooku beat Obi-Wan. The same Dooku that beat Obi-Wan+young Anakin together and fought Yoda to a draw.

      I don't buy that argument that Vader is secretly stronger than Sidious in all areas of the Force except Force Lightning. He had no other way to stop Sidious from frying Luke? Whatever happened to Force Push? Force Grip? Lightsaber throw? If Sidious was truly outclassed by Vader in all other techniques at that point, being able to shoot electricity out of his fingers is not going to save him. I think Vader's dumb decision to get in the way of the electricity is just due to bad writing at the time, in addition to many bad writing in the OT only saved by the vast amounts of after-stories, fan support fueled by after stories and better writing of them.

      Joe Arnold Obi Wan was a top tier jedi for one thing, and knew Vader better than anyone as he literally trained him. The other Jedi were mostly not as powerful and were unfamiliar with Vader. Also, post-suit vader modified his fighting style specifically for dueling and killing Jedi. That, along with his cybernetic enhancements made him able to kill most Jedi with ease. That being said, there were still several powerful Jedi that put up a very hard fight, he wasn't able to utterly destroy them all the time, he still had to fight his hardest.

    • @d.aardent9382
      @d.aardent9382 8 лет назад +6

      @ Joe Arnold: yah its exaggerating bullshit. He has all these amazing abilities suddenly since the recent prequels. He's practically flying and somersaulting everywhere. This retcon crap is getting ridiculous. I never thought it was sensible that they made him so overpowered in the prequels when he goes from getting beat by Dooku then gets beaten by Kenobi at Mustafar then suddenly he's a little later he's unbeatable after all the debilitating injuries and can fight multiple force users/Jedi all at once?
      Doesnt make much sense even with saying the "dark side" magically improved his skills, which he then lost strangely in episodes 4-6.
      Just not a sensible escalation when ObiWan is basically portrayed as losing all his abilities from the prequel younger version of him to where in only 19+/- years he's so decrepit and has no abilities to leap long distances or manipulate objects with Force??
      Never made any sense to me how ObiWan could age so rapidly when he is only 25 r something in episode 3 and he'd only be around 45 in episode 4...as is shown in other instances of Jedi,they age slowly and retain their youth and vigor. So how is ObiWan so aged and weak in so short a span of years?
      In the original trilogy Vader could barely fight Old Obi Wan and Luke alone beat him later. He hardly used any force pushing at all against people in the original trilogy,only moved inanimate objects.He could kinda slow his falls when he jumped down. Then in the retcon cartoons series and such he's(vader)Force throwing people everywhere constantly and practically flying around doing acrobatics and moving huge objects. lol ridiculous.

    I always was suspicious at the Emperor to get rid of Vader. He was so keen to win Luke as Apprentice and to convince him to claim his fathers place on the Emperor’s side.
    And that was one of the steps to the decision Vaders to kill the Emperor. Beside a few others of course.

  • @rodsig78
    @rodsig78 6 лет назад

    Vader's powers were limited from what they originally were but not completely because of the injuries he suffered on Mustafar. Palpatine surmised that his affliction was more psychological than physical........yes he lost limbs and his flesh was badly damaged but the midichlorian count in his remaining cells hadn't diminished. He never came to terms with the mistakes of his life, the lost of Padame, and the injuries he suffered.
    To prove my point if you read Darth Bane: Path of Destruction in his early years in the Army of Darkness at the Korriban Academy Bane was training to be Sith. In a sparing match with another student he was defeated and humiliated his confidence took a huge blow and as a result his strength in the force had waned. It wasn't until he took private lessons from the instructor and started studying Sith lore and history that he regained his confidence. The next match he bested and overpowered the same opponent.
    Anakin had the potential to be the most powerful force sensitive in history Jedi or Sith and Palpatine knew this, that's why he was careful to limit his training and purposefully keep him weaker. Palpatine also routinely used Dun Möch on Vader as another way of continuing the psychological damage.........messing with his head to make him question and doubt ever challenging him even though Palpatine knew that was the foundation of The Rule of Two.
    One to be the embodiment of power and the other to crave it..........the apprentice was eventually suppose to rise up and challenge his master for the mantle of Dark Lord leading to an increasingly stronger line of Sith Lords. Palpatine wanted all that to end with him and wouldn't allow anyone to rival him. Vader was never more than a tool for Palpatine his injuries just made him easier to control.

    Palpatine withheld training to keep himself in power and alive for as long as possible. To have taught Darth Vader more about the Sith and the Dark Side with have only taken years off his own life. The greatest thing Palpatine withheld from Vader was the secret of Transferring someone's essence into a clone of their own body. Palpatine stole this technique from a fallen Jedi and used it to transfer his own essence into a clone of himself. He could have taught Vader this or even done it to him and put Vader's essence into a clone body restoring him with limbs and freeing him of his pain. Palpatine did this seven times to Bevel Lemelisk, an engineer and architect who designed the Death Star, after he had him tortured as punishment for flaws in his design and running behind Palpatine's demanding schedule.

  • @yokgor4675
    @yokgor4675 3 года назад +1

    I believe Palpatine was prepared to properly train him after the rise of the Empire based on how he stated his confidence about Vader’s future in Ep3, but since his force potential was greatly diminished, so he thinks it’s not possible to teach him the real stuff like the Sith magics and alchemy. He doesn’t need to train Vader lightsaber combat, and other basic force powers, he’s already an expert in it, all there is left to teach is Sith sorcery. And Palpatine once thought what truly held Vader down is his conflicted mental condition deep down, he’s only 99.99% immersed in the dark side, he just couldn’t be 100% devoted to it, Palpatine has been constantly trying fill up that 0.01% by pushing Vader over the edge, he’s not gonna teach him anything before breaking that mental barrier of his.

    Anakin was born of the Force through immaculate conception & was a power unto himself. A child brought up in slavery. Sidious could have taught him more of the dark mystic stuff & diplomacy. But as far as fighting goes, light or dark side he was already well experienced through countless battles. He had already become powerful enough to slay Count Dooku, who was a powerful duelist, Vader knew how to fight, He just had to adjust to His new body by refocusing. Reminds me of Def Leppard's drummer who lost his arm, He didn't quit. He grabbed his drum tech and dived into the studio, and refocused His technique

    I've always looked at it like Anakin was the prize he wanted, he had to settle for vader. All the pieces came together in Revenge of the Sith, Sidius grand scheme paid off... yet Anakin was a failed prospect. There was no one left for Sidius to gain at this point, so he settled for an enforcer rather than a successor.
    I think Anakin also realized this, that after he killed all those jedi and turned to the dark side, he was no longer what Sidius wanted. He was deformed, weaker than before and killed the one thing that drove him to want to be stronger.
    Maul was also his original apprentice, but Maul as Sidius had pointed out has become a rival. Maul on his own, survived being cut in half and survived a fall that would kill any other. Everything you stated for Vader in this video is actually Maul's development. However he would never be loyal to Sidius again. He would kill him the first chance he got.
    So yeah, pre-vader, Sidius was so excited for Anakin to be his apprentice, even revealing himself and putting himself at great risk. After Vader... wtf, this thing is a huge disappointment. I wouldn't be surprised if Ezra meets the emperor at some point and gets tempted. That could be the thing that causes Vader to realize he's no longer needed or wanted and has him try to recruit his son.

    I think Palpatin knew Vader was far more powerful than him, so he made Vader's suit purposely with a flaw, and refuse to train him to keep power over the Empire himself.

      Vader may have had more potential but he never can close to reach Sidious in terms of power

      Mr Sister Fister That's debatable. Maybe I'm biased because I love Vader in Star wars, but I think he had more potential but was held back due to Palpatine. Just my opinion. Anyways, I hope you and your family have a great holiday.

      Vader achieved nearly 80% of sidious' power by the end. He would have far surpassed him if not for his injuries and other limitations.

    His rage and pain made what he had mastered more powerful. Amplified. The emperor clearly had broader powers. But Vader's depth made him powerful in a way not even the emperor could experience. He was right to be afraid of Vader. Sidious knew that If Vader ever turned his rage back on him .... for any reason ...he might win. That's why he kept him "distracted" and always hunting Obi Wan. There was a scene cut from the original Return of the Jedi where Vader returns to the death star is is barred from seeing the emperor. While I'm sure that was an effort to exercise his authority over Vader...denying him access..., he may also have felt the conflict growing in Vader that ultimately ended his life.

    Anakin Skywalker is always quickly evolving, this is his unique ability. With all that has happened to Anakin' nothing has stopped him, not Darth Tyranus, not OB1 Kenobi, not Darth Sidious, not Darth Vader, and not Luke Skywalker. Only Anakin defeated Darth Sidious, overcame Darth Vader, and saved Luke Skywalker. Anakin was always there' Darth Vader couldn't exist otherwise. It was Luke's purpose to remind his father of who he is' then Anakin did what he intended to do when Palpatine first revealed to Anakin that he is a Sith lord. From Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader' Anakin never stopped quickly evolving, achieving in weeks what would take other species' including his own' hundreds of years to reach, if at all. As Darth Vader' Anakin's ability to quickly evolve has grown in cosmic proportions! He has overcome all of his battle sown handicaps and mastered the Force' same as Revan did before him. Even Darth Vader said' the power of the death star is nothing compared to the Force. That in the Force and with the Force' and Anakin's ability to quickly evolve' Anakin Skywalker can do anything. Anakin became a force ghost without any training from Qui-gon Jinn and Yoda' because of his ability to quickly evolve.
