I so thankful I discovered your videos last week. I feel so connected to you guys and it feels kind of weird. I am a public school teacher in Alaska. I had major surgery for pancreatic cancer at the end of 2019 and then went through seven months of grueling chemotherapy, all while in the middle of a pandemic and continuing to work. I am finally eligible to retire at the end of this school year! Your videos have inspired me to continue on my slow recovery and get out and move my body. Last year I bought a van and an e-bike and hope to do start doing some short trips in the southwest during the brutality cold winter months. Kristy, I also want to thank you for sharing your success with Carolyn Jordan videos. I’m hoping I can eliminate some of my aches and pains from being pretty stationary for way too many years! Best of luck to you ladies and keep on wandering finding your wild! 💕
Thanks Lynda. Sending you good energy as you live this part of your journey. I can feel courage and determination in your words. There is so much you will love about traveling in your van and finding beauty. I think half the campers at Organ Pipe have E-bikes. Stay in touch.
Thanks!!! Watching this wonderful video while on my elliptical, trying to de-stress while waiting to hear about an RV we are trying to purchase. As usual the pics and music and conversations are balm to those of us who know the joy of outside, the best side! I am so inspired to get back out to the west! (Send positive vibes, prayers, and happy thoughts, please!)
Petrichor.......the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. Love the Sonoran Desert, and it's the ONLY place where the Saguaros grow! That place always put me in a state of pleasant contemplation. 😎
The Sonoran desert is one of the most beautiful habits I've every been in. If you haven't been to the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum yet, you should definitely go. It's a museum, desert zoo, and botanical garden all in one. It's just south of Saguaro National Monument West.
I love that place. I went because of your recommendation. It was so peaceful and not at all busy in APRIL Camp ground was so clean and great camp sites. The monuments out there are great.
Organ Pipe my favorite National Monument as well. Favorite spot Quito Bequito Springs sitting on the bench watching ducks in the cattails on the pond in the middle of the desert on our Southern Border. So sorry to read the road is closed. The Springs are a spiritual place for many cultures.
Wow! I need to add Organ Pipe NP to my bucket list! So beautiful. I thought of the Wander Women this week, as I snowshoed into the southern side of Baxter State Park, in Maine. The view of Katahdin just before the AT enters the park is awesome. Finding my wild and loving it! Thanks for taking us along on your adventures, and for inspiring us all to get outside!
So glad you have been safe with all the driving.Always sending good energy to you both🌟The desert is so magical after a rain indeed.Love the happy smiles😁
Always good to see you guys so replete with experiences. Feel the same way about clothes! And especially make up. Chaptick is about it! I met an older couple SOBO on the Pct this Summer. They knew you were somewhere in the area and asked of you. You most definitely inspired their hike. Hi Lynne! Great to see you. In France walking everyday with longer hikes planned. 🚶♀️ ⛰️ Ditty 😀
Oh man made me start to cry. We just spent a week there in January and absolutely loved it!!! We didnt want to leave. Hard to watch you ladies at all these wonderful places we were just at on our cross counry trip. Make sure you hit Chiricua Nat Monument, and Canyon Creek. America has so many amazing places. Thanks for taking us along.
My first solo adventuring after I retired nearly 20 years ago was a volunteer gig at ORPI. It was so beautiful that I cried for the last 30 minutes of my drive! Thank you for taking me back for a visit-I can almost smell it. I’m still adventuring at 74. Be sure to hike up to Bull pasture!
Love this video. I was there in 1997 during Haley-Bopp's transit. The campground was full of astronomers with huge telescopes. Not as many hiking trails back then, and the border patrol had free-rein to drive their trucks whereever /whenever they wanted, but, still, one of the most beautiful parks I've ever visited. It never disappoints. Enjoy!!
We literally just finished watching Venture4WD who was also in Organ Pipe and jumped on to your channel to see you were also in Organ Pipe at the same time. LOL! We love your channel!
Oh my! That would have kicked my butt! Are you guys going to use a GoPro on your trip? Maybe it would it’s mount would be stronger and the motion whatever it is called, my daughter loves hers. Me no gotta one! LoL You ladies are totally my hero’s & inspiration! Hope you are walking and sitting better the day after this was filmed than I would be!! Don’t ask me how I know! LoL
One of my wife and my favorites too. Arizona has so many chances to visit our National Parks,Monuments and other Park Service locations many accessible to RV camping, some have great paths for biking and hiking at what ever difficulty you desire. The last time we were at Organ Pipe it was August and 113 degrees, needless to say we didn’t bike and only did limited walking. Glad to see you got some gravel under your tires. When I saw the sign for the Ajo Mountain loop I knew you were in for a workout. Although I don’t really like full suspension bikes when I’m on a washboard road I rethink that constantly. If there is a lady selling tamales at the junction in Why buy some they are delicious, not too healthy but delicious. To bad the southern boundary of the Monument has been ruined with that ugly wall but that’s another subject. Happy pedaling stay safe and wander on.
Thanks for the info. I'll be on the lookout for the tamale vendor on our way out. We'd like to revisit here end of May, start of June to see the saguaros and organ pipes bloom.
What a absolutely beautiful place to be. I love all of the scenery and natural beauty there. The cactus 🌵 is amazing. It's going to be great for you both to be there for 7 days. What a blessing 💖 I'll be waiting for the next video and you both take care. Sending you lots of love from Oregon and stay blessed 💖🙏💖
Have you guys gone to Sabino Canyon National Forest it is across on the other side of Tuscon. It is amazing. In about a few weeks all the cacti will be blooming and Sabino Canyon is amazing. I’ve been there 3 times and each time it is lovely.
Yes, we walked up the road one evening and we plan to go back when our friend from CO comes. Thanks for the heads up. I would love to see the saguaros blooming.
Wow that looks amazing. Not so sure about the bone shaker road but the views make up for it. Hope you recovered 😉 Well my PCT journey has started got sabaticle from work, got doctors sign off on it, given up my rented accommodation and a dear friend is letting me use her spare room until I go so sorting out all the stuff I have accumulated but probably never used in ages. started changing gear and doing walks. Will be doing legal stuff next week, visas, medical insurance, travel insurance. I have got a few of the hikers of this year to watch as they go so looking forward to that. Looking forward to watching you guys and your adventure. Take care and see you again soon x
Awesome campground (never been there) but would love being there with my camera! Nice to meet others and ride together. I hate washboard roads in a vehicle I can only imagine how jarring it would be on bikes. Awesome music and the still shots at the end 😀 Enjoy the rest of your stay there
Looks like a place I'll have to visit. One of the first things I do when I get a new bike is figure out the largest tire I can fit on it. This will allow you reduce the tire pressure and have more floatation over the terrain. Really helps on washboards and you get better traction too.
Yes, but on the road the fat tyres will cause extra drag. Even when pumped up to max. A compromise tyre for gravel is what they need for a long journey involving tarmac sections.
@@jimmyjohnstone5878 that is not always true. Rolling resistance on rough roads will get better. Also if you have sore hands after a ride you have damaged them. Continuing down that road will permanently damage joints and nerves.
You ladies are awespiring. Have you considered the Natchez Trace Parkway? It is very biker and hiker friendly. Even has free biker only campgrounds. Have fun.
I thoroughly enjoyed that! The road trip to get there through wind and rain, the RV park and all the beautiful terrain, it was all so beautiful! As for bike knowledge I'm a beginner, but although the Surly Disc Trucker excels at pavement touring, it looks like it was decent on gravel as well. Even in a car a washboard surface is very difficult. Thus far I'm a hiker and backpacker, but you've got me seriously researching cycling now!
Sorry for weather ladies, should be mid 80s by mid week. Might get a little more wind as weather system sweeps through, won't last long though. Sorry about road condition. If we can't get Tucson to fix some of our horrible city streets, there's no chance the State, County, NPS will ever get around to fixing some of those roads.
We have the wind right now. Hopefully, it leaves us this morning. I would love it if they resurfaced the road, but it's still worth the trip, ragged sections and all.
Loved your video from this park last year and have been planning to visit ever since. But now I am concerned about the drop off you described getting there. We also have a big fifth wheel. Do you cross through a mountain pass? Is the grade bad as well as the road not having guard rails and are there constant switch backs? Is that the only road in? Sorry for all the questions but I really want to camp there but we have taken our fifth wheel into some scary situations and prefer to be prepared. Otherwise loved this video. Keep them coming!
The road from Tucson is ragged and needs to be resurfaced, but not scary. I dropped my speed by 10 mph and paid attention in the parts w no shoulder, but definitely doable. You will love Organ Pipe . . . Definitely come ahead.
No matter what 'holder' you have for your phone or camera, make sure you attach the equipment to your bike with a lanyard. No holder is 100% and smashed kit really hurts.
We just got these bikes last month and haven't started making changes yet. I think they're 700x32 -- not the best for the washboard roads, for sure, but most of the time we've been on the bike path.

The saguaros are like the ents in Tolkien's Middle Earth, magical beings.
Beautiful thank you for taking us along wears valley TN watching
The smell of creosote after a rain is intoxicating thank you for making me believe I smelt it.
I believe that the rain was a “ spirit- uplifting “ rain….you are inspiring. Beautiful video. Thank you for the lift!!!!
So glad to see you having fun again. I agree, it us one if my very favorite places. I feel like it's a desert forest. Have fun on the trails.
Looks stunning out there, take care, Rose & Mick.
Seeing Annette walking by the cactus really gives perspective to how tall they are. I wish RUclips had smell-a-vision. So pretty.
Ha! We said that too: Scratch and sniff RUclips.
You have outdone yourselves, again! 😊

Glad you are safe! The scenery made me miss AZ but the air didn’t agree with me there. But it’s SO pretty and smells amazing!

We hiked up to Bull Padture yesterday. You're right -- it's a beauty.
I drove those roads pulling a trailer as well, those winds can be brutal . Glad you you're back in one of your favourite parks. Enjoy!

There's magic in the desert in the winter. Yesterday's hike wandered along a wash thick with huge saguaros and organ pipes.

Twin Peaks Campground at Organ Pipe Nat'l Monument.

Good advice.
What size tires do you have??
We just got these bikes last month and haven't started making changes yet. I think they're 700x32 -- not the best for the washboard roads, for sure, but most of the time we've been on the bike path.
