    Teaching kids might feel awkward at first but you adjust and it's different than western culture so there's a lot of respect given to the teachers. It would be a good idea for you to look into it. You won't get rich but it's enough and you could stay in Thailand. I would suggest looking at private schools if there are any around you as the pay and facilities would be better. And yes giving back to the community is very rewarding.

    The wire with plastic strips on is used widely on farm land for cows. It’s never electrified but the cows think it is due to previously being zapped in early life.

    Another wonderful insight into your life and durian farming. I was a little upset with the average living costs that you quoted for you and Pen. £1200 per month was well above what I thought we might be able to survive on. TEFL teachers in Thailand are looking at B30-40,000 per month, which is a lot less than £1200 on todays currency exchange. I’m hoping you are going to tell me that all the ducks, ice cream and Amazon coffee you guys drink takes up the main share, but I’m now scared to ask. I have my mind set on returning in the next few years, build a house, invest in a small business for the wife, teach a little and then when I retire survive on our pensions (majority state - small private) and business takings. I’m starting to see this slip away. Oh Crap!

    • @lowbrow
      @lowbrow  2 года назад +1

      about £3-400 goes on the farm, we are probably spending about £800-£1000 on ourselves and the dogs, I really dont know exactly as I never add it up, but as I say, no attempt to economise, I am sure we could live on £600 fairly easily. I know people here who live on less than £200/month

    • @AmericanInThailand
      @AmericanInThailand 2 года назад

      We can get by on a $1200 monthly budget. House is paid for and $500 of the budget goes to health insurance for us both, and life insurance for me. Then in two years I will take my Pension, which will be close to double.

  • @mythai9593

    Something you have to factor in is because of the high price at present everyone is planting Durian, in the next few years their will be an over supply driving the price down.

    • @AnuchaFarm
      @AnuchaFarm 2 года назад +2

      Durian consumption per capita for Taiwan, HK, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand is 11-13kg pa. China consumption is 200g. The demand for durian from the emerging Chinese middle class will keep prices stable for some decades

    Everytime your paying others to do the work it's costing you money and eaten at the profits .
    Me personally I don't use family members on my thai wife's side .
    Don't mean to sound disrespectful but there's always parasites around to drink you dry .
    Best advice I got from a Scottish friend of mine when building house or any farming don't let friends and family do if I have to out source I use people in the near village .

    Rubber farming was really good money up to about 10 years ago. We got in at about 100 Bart per kilo for sheet rubber. Then it went to 180 Bart per kilo.falang including me were all talking how big money it was.then the market became flooded. Because who doesn't want to make money. Then the price crashed to 60 Bart per kilo . Any market can become flooded. I highly recommend not talking prices on internet.
    Even now Laos is putting in 4,000 rai of durian.
    I'm not insulting you,just sound advice.

    Let's get one thing clear here they is no magic monthly amount it's going to cost you in Thailand it can cost as much or as little as you want it to cost fact in a nutshell

  • @MrAussie44

    That's what shits me about the dirt tracks and so called roads in Thailand. The farmers driver down them every day in their tractors ,, But never think to put the front blade down and try and fill in the pot holes,, if they all did it it would be a much better drive. But no they just drive around and over the pot holes.. Crazy.. And with trees fruiting , They like to have a year or 2 rest,, and not pump out as much,, then all of a sudden it will produce so much fruit for the next few years..

    • @AmericanInThailand

      Not a lot of Thais seem to think of the other person, just their immediate situation.

    • @LAMBinara
      @LAMBinara 2 года назад

      Grading a road doesn't work like that. If they did what you said, the pot holes would be bigger in next to no time ... Hence why those "crazy" Thais aren't so crazy.

      ‘Western Logic Does Not Apply’
      Some people never make it to the the first step. They can not think past their own perceived needs and selfishness.
      You should ask yourself, Why am I here ? What is my purpose ? If you do not know, find out.
