The ASIAIR Plus will be available in November. Will you be switching/upgrading? Also... I think CUIV should be a regular technical advisor for this channel! :D
Sir, please you also capture the pictures of landscape photography as like Alyn Wallace and also make Astrovlog video like Alyn Wallace and upload videos on RUclips "Please 🙏 Sir"
Naah. It's a nice set up and convenient, but being locked into ZWO products (even though they're good) doesn't sound appealing. I'll stick with my NUC and SGP or NINA.
I had been holding out on the ASIAir to wait for it to mature - and I think third time's the charm, as far as I can tell! I am impressed with how streamlined an experience it provides out of the box! It's now permanently on my smaller setup.... Until another manufacturer convinces me to buy a non-ZWO camera :-) But in the meantime, I'm planning several tutorials (framing, live stack, etc.) to post on my channel!
Hey Trevor! - I have to say I am/have switched over to asiair plus from the Pc solution, and for my sessions it's been a revelation! :-) really happy! Awesome video as always and it was very interesting to hear your first take on things! Clear skies 👍👍
I am trying to watch as many videos as possible to get a crash course on the ASI Air Plus. I just got mine delivered this week, along with the EAF and will be putting it all together on the William Optics Z61, along with my new SWSA GTi mount. I watched your video on the ASI294MC Pro (which is what I have). When you gave it such a great review and said you used an UV/IR cut filter to get that beautiful photo of the Veil nebula, I purchased a filter for mine. Now I have no excuse not to go for it. Thanks for sharing everything, I am so inspired.
Very helpful. This OG of 6 years shooting is ready to let go of the battles and constant frustrations with software, drivers etc. Thanks for making this.
I don't need sponsorship and I don't maintain a social media presence. I like the ASIair because it's a very easy and straight forward device. It just works. I've used a laptop. Apt, Nina, and all that. Bought the ASIair and haven't looked back.
After about a month of trying to get NINA and PHD2 to work on my laptop, I switched to the ASIair Pro. As a beginner, I don't think I would have persuded astrophotography as a hobby if it wasn't for the ASIair. It makes everything so easy and enjoyable.
I just bought this and can't wait to try it. I'm tired of freezing outside and in the summer I'm not into mosquitoes. After I'm polar aligned its back in the house we go. At first I didn't know if I wanted this after watching videos of this now I'm sold. This is what I need.
ASIair pro user and even with the WiFi issues it's a game changer. One thing that wasn't mentioned which is really powerful,is the ability to schedule multiple targets over the night. So set up the targets, and go to bed. Good to see the updates have sorted the WiFi though. Will be upgrading.
Glad you are revisiting the ASIAir. I tried a laptop but never took to looking at a PC while stargazing. I love the simplicity of DSLR/wide field scope and no guiding. But I wanted to start guiding and the ASIAir was the answer. Like you, I liked that gentle glow of the hand controller, but the ASIAir not only eliminated that, it introduced me to plate solving, no need for star alignment, and a bunch of possibilities. I used the unit for visual last night by designating the guide scope (120mini/50mm) as Main Camera and replacing my DSLR with a star diagonal and eyepiece. The polar alignment, plate solving, goto functions worked great.
I think it really helps to use the ASIAIR app on a tablet rather than a phone. The app is well optimized to small screens but having slightly bigger screen space for messing with things helps. I'm using a Samsung s6 tablet and it runs smooth as butter.
Great overview Trevor. I must say.. I have been using the AAP for about a year now and it is absolutely perfect for me. Being in the uk.. Weather is always an issue. My rig is set up amd ready to go near my garden door and the i can get uo and running in minutes with AAP routine. It works seamlessly with the EAF and Autoguider. Completely get what you mean regarding beginners.. I must admit the AAP has made my imaging sessions so simple now i could never look back.
I’m an OG as well and I switched completely over to the ASIAIR Pro 6 months ago and have never looked back. The ASIAIR is a real game changer and has eliminated the need for a laptop entirely. I do recommend running the ASIAIR app on a tablet. I run mine on an iPad and it is phenomenal!
This helped me immensely having taken up the hobby last year. Works great on my EQ6-R pro but when you start to switch up to e.g. the mount you have in the dome or 10 micron that require modelling for those that want unguided… maybe a mini pc or eagle might be the route for full control. Having said that because you can connect to the 10 micron, you could run a 3 star alignment and refine stars via virtual hand controller and using the asiair platesolve feature. Takes a while but doable
I know this is about 2 years old, but I finally broke down to try and simplify my setup recently. I have been using a Software Bisque MYT mount with the sky software AP130mm scope and I was pretty comfortable with it, but I didn't have a dedicated observatory, so setting up and taking down was starting to become a chore on my old bones. LOL I moved to an Aptura 75q with a AM5 mount asi122mm guider and ASI 1600mm camera with 5X2 filter wheel. The asiair + device makes everything from Polar alignment , focusing, finding objects , guiding and capture a breeze! I know its not for everyone, but for me I find myself able carry my scope and tripod out on my viewing spot and ready to image in 15 minutes!!!!
Trevor, where have you been you are old school. Been using an ASIAir Pro for about a year, totally made my life photographing targets a breeze. From polar alignment, plate solving, guiding, focusing, capturing images, dark frames, dew heaters, etc. Leave the laptop at home as this will do a better job with an intuitive work flow. I use a amazon fire tablet which can run all night. I will recommend if using a battery, get a big one as the ASI with all the work it is doing, it uses a lot of power. But it!
I keep saying I just need to dive in with both feet and figure this stuff out. Looks like this will help with the learning curve. Maybe. I am so new I cant even tell you where the planets and stars are. I have taken some pictures of the milky way and moon but that is it. This just seems so involved and SOOOOOOOOOOOO much to learn. Thank you for taking the time to make this video
I totally expect the next AstroBackyard video to have the word WOW in it as least that many! I sure love my ASIAIR Pro and Plus, but I think my channel already made that clear ;)
I just got one. It's pretty amazing tech, using my old Canon DSLR and lens with a SA GTi, and getting some good results already. Thanks for the vid. I LOVE plate solving...
Wow I'm so early, awesome job Trevor, keep up the good work 😁 Btw.. could you make a vid for complete astrophotography beginners, like what's stacking, exposures, etc.?
I have the first version of the ASIAir and so far it has been working as expected, but I may switch to the new Pro Plus due to a few feature that I can't get on my original version. I was working on a Raspberry Pi to do what ZWO released in the ASIAir..I'm very happy they fixed the issues I have encountered. I wanted a solution where I didn't need to haul out my laptop and the ASIAir was the solution. I may give AstroBerry I try too. Great job on the video!
I just got the ASI AIR Pro say about 6 months. I just wish they make an attachment can cable that can slip through the side openings. I'm not going to drill a hole as I've seen one other do online to add the antenna.
Great video Trevor. Only thing I would expand on for me I use the AsiAirpro as an experienced Astrophotographer. Yes it simplifies the whole process but with no observatory it’s a win for me. The time it takes to set up has been vastly reduced since moving to the ASI, especially when running to rigs. Clear skies
That was my big win, I would struggle with polar because i have a fork on wedge mount but the ASIAIR I'm aligned in 10 minutes or less and ready to go back inside.
I have the V1 and the Pro. The software has come on a long way over the past two years. The pro added video capture and live stacking but destroyed the wifi range. The plus looks like the best of both of the former iterations. Great video as always Trevor.
Hi A B Y . I am thinking of becoming a Astro Photography, I have been looking at the Astro plus. But you and some other people are using phones 📱, it is to small for me to read, and I have Heard that there has been some problems with using iPad with this device. I'm going to be using a DSR Nikon camera at the moment, With a go to mount , Hopefully next year I will buying a triplet telescope with a EQ Six. So the question is will the iPad work or can I use a some type of MacBook or a Mac computer or an iPad as my iPhone is too small to read properly as I am old git. Phil from the Moulin in France.
I have been using the ASIAIR Pro with great sucess over the past year and to solve the wifi range I attached a power strip to a tripod legs where everything is powered from and also plugged in a TP-Link wifi extender thats connected to my home network and thats plugged in to the RJ-45 connector on the Pro. Other than the Wifi range upgrade is this new one that much better to replace my old Pro?
I’m using the ASI Air Pro with an Orion Atlas Pro mount, Orion 110 Eon refractor and ASI 2600 MC Pro. Have a small guide scope (120 mm FL) with a ASI 290MM mini. Everything works really well. This is my first system and I am pleased with it. I have bought a wifi extender but haven’t used it yet (maybe in the winter when it is cold out). My only question is how the ASI Air Pro will hold up in our Canadian winter. Manual says operating temp is 0 to 40 oC. It is a lot colder than that here! Dr B from Manitoba
I bought my ASIAir pro in august just so Id have a way to guide in the field. of course then I saw they had the 533mc pro in stock so got that as well. I sit next to my rig in the field, but I ordered a wifi extender for when i walk away farther than 5 feet! so I think the regular one will be just fine for me, but its still annoying that they release a new one right after I buy the old one!
Wonderful video. I am a asiair pro user. Keep thinking I'll go back to laptop and other programs. But the asiair is just so easy. Would love to see you take your fits. From the one shot color camera and see your stacking and processing. Step by step. For those of us that have trouble getting as good a quality photos as I did with sharpcap and SGP.
i have the Asiair pro, but use an Ethernet cable from it as wifi not strong enough to reach the house, but maybe when i can will upgrade to the plus :)
I can honestly say that apart from guiding in general; the ASIAIR is the single most profoundly useful purchase I've ever made in astronomy. Setups that used to take an hour or more, now take five minutes. Things that 50% of the time used to work 30% of the time, now work 100% of the time right away, robustly, and without fail. Since getting my AIR, I've discarded precisely ZERO subs due to derpy guiding. I used to throw away easily 20-30% in a given night. I'm absolutely in awe of this piece of kit. Doing without it seems genuinely prehistoric now.
Hey Trevor, I have the Pro version and used it some times. I am completely with you when it comes to reliability and WiFi range issues of the ASI AIR Pro. It's good to hear that these things were improved in the new version. I would still use my mini PC in my backyard because you still can not plan your imiging frames in sense of rotation and mosaics. Clear Skies, Christian
I have Pegasus Ultimate Power Box and mini pc, both sitting on the top of my scope. What also I have is absolutely unlimited freedom to use this setup with whatever camera and software I like.
I’ve been into astronomy since I was 8 (currently 44) and reading Adventures in the Solar System with Planetron (anyone?). I entered the astrophotography hobby just as the ASIAir Pro came out and managed to snag one during the beginning months of the pandemic. The Wi-Fi connection was horrible and frustrating but I purchased a Vonet’s wifi extender and that has solved the majority of my issues. I absolutely LOVE the acquisition portion of this hobby; capturing images from my backyard as I do visual astronomy with a separate scope. Now, it’s my post-processing I really need to work on. Ugh. 😒
I have watched several videos from various users of this device but I am still confused about the cabling. If I have the ASI Air Plus USB connected to the hand controller of my mount do I still need the cable from the guide scope to mount? The documentation on connections for this thing are weak!
I just fixed the Wifi issues with my ASIAIR Pro by hooking up an external antenna. It's still a bit annoying though, that the Starlight Micro Touch focuser isn't supported.
Hi Trevor, Love your videos. In a further demo can you show the ASIAIR Plus use of the Video mode? I have the Pro and cannot fathom how to use that mode. An mp4 gets saved on the phone, but where? It does not say. Does the Plus address how planetary can be done? Like the Moon or Jupiter. Before I dump my PC it would be good to see. I go back to Sharpcap for such images. The other modes are so much more intuitive.
I havent picked one up yet cause I am still using a Skyguider pro, and using APT and Stellarium is how I plate solve and center my target, It looks like this is still catered to the GOTO mounts, I am still waiting on mine to come off of backorder so in the mean time I guess im still waiting before I purchase a PLUS.
??? Say go to to a star party how does it work if u are away from say 1000s miles away? And how will the system work n how will your images be captured and saved?
So I have a question. You said the ASIAir + can be controlled via cellphone or tablet. Can it be also controlled from an indoor Windows Laptop or better a desktop for those of us challenged by small screen displays? Is there software for control of ASIAir+ for windows PC platforms?
A question for you. I have the original ASIAIR and was dismayed to find that you have to Polar Align and then three star align before you can use the app. Does the ASIAIR Plus have the same behaviour? Thanks.
I still have the pro sitting in its box, so really need to put it to use, so no need for the new one! Do like the Eagle setup that Steven Morris is using though.....
I'm a mix of old and new :) I've tossed the hand controller and use platesolving.. but I think I would still prefer a laptop. I just don't think I would like to manage an imaging rig through the tiny screen of my phone. Now that camera on the other hand.. the asi2400.. that's one you don't hear about often. The asi6200 gets all the attention in the full frame space. I'd like to see more on that beast. I suspect it would match up well with the Edge 11... sans reducer.
At first, I thought I would have a hard time letting go of my laptop. But now I cringe at the thought of going back to my laptop. I use an iPad so that my eyes don’t have to squint at a cell phone screen. (My iPad screen is as big as my laptop screen). I’m so glad I made the switch. Now, I am up and running in far less time than before as the ASIAIR streamlines the whole process. I use all of the ASIAIR hardware connections (mount, both imaging and guide cameras, electronic autofocuser (EAF), filter wheel). The ASIAIR user group on Facebook is tremendous too with lots of helpful advice.
what quide camera do u use? That is the only thing i cant see in your Gear list. That rig setup you have on the raptor61 look amazing! WOW.. I really need this! I think this will change my astrophoto to a compleat/Complete. Do i need the filter.. I have a 4-5 ski.
I love Asiair Pro for the EdgeHD800/Atlas Pro setup and am planning on getting a second one for my portable Skyguider Pro setup. I am still using the laptop for the Astroshed setup since it works and is already set. Ha Ha - You will finally be platesolving if you switch - only a matter of time. - Cheers Kurt
I just watched this video because it popped up in my recommended but then I went to insta and saw your post and thought "oh awesome, a new video to watch." I fear I have played myself.
Trevor ive been using the asiair since v1 when i first started astrophotography 2 years ago. as much as i loved your videos on the laptop software setup for an imaging session, its all too much work compared to my 15min setup time. im sure i would given up the hobby very quickly, due to frustration
The ASIAIR Plus will be available in November. Will you be switching/upgrading? Also... I think CUIV should be a regular technical advisor for this channel! :D

I look forward to those future tutorials. Your 1st was impressive. I've tried Live Stack, but seems odd taking calibration frames before Light Frames
So happy to see a collaboration with Cuiv, he absolutely deserves the exposure (pun intended) !

I have the ASIAIR Pro version so I probably won’t upgrade but I am so happy you reviewed the Plus version Trevor! It makes deep sky astro so much fun!

I feel like we have the same taste in music😂 ur past videos have had songs that are in my playlist on spotify! Cool stuff dude!
you know its a good day when astrobackyard uploads
I am using Pro and I haven't experienced any bugs or instability so far (10months). I cannot imagine doing it old fashion way, I don't have backyard.
Preordered it last month and I’m looking forward to using it, but yeah…changing the way I do just about everything is intimidating
Never thought I'd hear asiair and intimidating in the same phrase! It's super easy to use, I'm sure you'll love it!
You'll be a 100% convert within a week and never look back. You'll wonder how you were okay with so much wasted time and frustration previously.
I think the ASIAIR uses the PHD2 for its guiding package
Hey Trevor how do you take videos of nebulae with your setup in foreground with small nebulae in background
Trevor, can you do a tutorial on the Airpro??? I get polar alignment and that's about it.
It'll be interesting to see if it holds up after awhile. Good luck :)
Nice review. Does it have the equivalent of FireCapture for luna and planetary imaging?
NiSi Optics came out with a filter called Star Soft Astrophotography Filter. Could you review it someday? Thank you
When you set up a Plan to run at a specific time, will the ASIAir Plus first do a calibration and start guiding on its own? Thanks.
I have a MyT mount and I cant use it with the ASI air plus. You have to use the Sky X which defeats the purpose of being mobile
Cooler at 100% power is not usually a good idea - do you need to go lower than -10°C?
A question for you. I have the original ASIAIR and was dismayed to find that you have to Polar Align and then three star align before you can use the app. Does the ASIAIR Plus have the same behaviour? Thanks.
I bought the asiair plus but I have no idea what I'm doing, how to set it up, I've only been in the game for less than 6 months
Only one question:
Why don‘t you use off-axis-quiding? 🤔
This has to be the game changer
I still have the pro sitting in its box, so really need to put it to use, so no need for the new one! Do like the Eagle setup that Steven Morris is using though.....
Can you use the ASIAIR Plus with a DSLR set-up without a star tracker?
Does the auto alignment work for the Southern Hemisphere with the sky watcher star adventurer?
I'd also be interested in knowing this please and also how it goes with autoguiding the SA if possible. TIA :).
it works on my skywatcher az gti in the southern hemisphere
Would you say it’s worth it?
@@WillPembrokePhotography i have the ASIair pro with a wi fi booster on it which is the same as the plus and yes its well worth it
@@frackcenturion how does the auto alignment work on a manual Mount like the SA?
I assume your funds are also not limitless. What did you sell and what did you buy in the past 12 months?
@@davidleejenkins Thanks David. The hardware connections do look nice.. better than running everything to a hub.
what cords would i need to connect my asiair mini to my Az-Gti mount
what quide camera do u use?
Hey have you ever thought about photographing Markarian's Chain?
Sticking with the Pro until I have a good reason. I like the idea of a new one though.
Heard the pro Wifi is awful? My thinking was the real reason the Plus was introduced so quickly was for external antenna.
@@RonixViva correct
I just watched this video because it popped up in my recommended but then I went to insta and saw your post and thought "oh awesome, a new video to watch." I fear I have played myself.
Trevor ive been using the asiair since v1 when i first started astrophotography 2 years ago. as much as i loved your videos on the laptop software setup for an imaging session, its all too much work compared to my 15min setup time. im sure i would given up the hobby very quickly, due to frustration
AstroBackyard great vid love watch all your stuff, was wondering do you prefer the color zwo’s or the mono chrome? I see you jump back and forth.
Achievement unlocked! I appear in an Astrobackyard video! Whohoo ;-) 0:22 mark in case you are wondering.
Next to me Martin!
Hi Trevor, have you tested the ASIAir with a QHY camera and filter wheel?
