Rather than learning only cae, pickup good specialization and learn cae with that.if you do other way around slowly value of cae engineer will come down.After working more than 10years as cae engineer I am saying this.
CAE is not coming down, initially be good with strength of materials and learn ANSA and Hypermesh.Learn solvers like Abaqus,Lsdyna etc.Additional skill tcl,tk,python is good.

Believe me. I am working as a CAE modeller. It is totally not worth it. Salaries are pathetically low and work environment will be full of harassing colleagues and managers. You are expected to work for atleast 12 - 15hrs everyday including weekends. You will basically have no life except "modelling". You will have to slog your a** for atleast 4-5yrs before you even get a chance to work on analysis projects. 99% of modellers never get to move ahead in their career and switch their domain altogether. Job openings are abysmally low. Basically if you want to ruin your career join CAE.
