Not a huge fan of musicals, but when this scene hit... pfft it became one of my favorite movies. Now this is watched at least three times a year. Christina in this stage of her career to me was at her very best with the Jazzy Blues.
This movie introduced me to Christina's voice and I gained a whole new respect for her. I can't imagine how she felt singing in front of another legend...Cher.
What's sad is that when she was little she outdid all the other kids in every contest she entered to the point where the parents who encouraged her mom to put Christina in the contests began to turn on her & her mom. And when she went to her prom they played her song "Genie In a Bottle" & everyone walked off the dance floor most likely the girls pulled their dates off the floor & wouldn't let their dates talk to Christina because they were very jealous of her. To me that's just mean, cruel & disrespectful I would not only let my date talk to Christina I would be right there with him congratulating her on her success I would probably be nervous around her.
Plus - I don't know what Nikki really thought was going to happen. Dave was going to rat her out - and then Tess would have fired her for pulling a costly stunt like that, since the club was already struggling and that's a surefire way to lose more patrons. Ali not only saved the act, but she also most likely saved Nikki's ass (here).
Fun fact: Christina Aguilera said when she was little girl this really happened to her the cut her 🎤 🎙 off so she couldn't sang. And she start sang acappella to prove she could really sang...Definitely a vocalist all day.

I think the cast and director did a great job and it's a nice film to watch.
A lot of people can sing. But to be able to sing and have such a high vocal range that you don't need a working microphone for people to hear you, is an entirely different state of being. Aguilera knocked it right out of the park right here!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

I bought Burlesque on DVD at a second hand store when I was younger and would play it on my tiny tv :,) I watched Chicago at a pretty young age and was excited to give something more modern a try, pleasantly surprised by both Cher and Xtinas performances, I then watched it so many times that I grew tired of it over the next few years lol. It was a basic formula movie. The story isn't really a stand out. HOWEVER, this also shows how even a formula movie can be good. With a cast stacked with acting, singing and dance talent, it raised the formula to make a solid, fun and entertaining movie.
