After watching her latest video, I had to come back to this. Man I had the biggest crush on Cheryl back in in '09. Hate to see all the negativity revolving around her right now.
To all the Sunmi fans defending her and saying that Cheryl Cole is irrelevant which is untrue, this also implies you think ripping off smaller artists and composers is ok. Cheryl Cole is NOT irrelevant. She was part of one of biggest UK girl groups, Girls Aloud, who holds the record for the shortest time between being formed as a band and achieving a number one single in Europe. She’s the most successful solo coming from that group, she was also a judge on The X Factor for 4 seasons, mentoring 2 winners.
Well to in South Koreans' point of view Cheryl can be seen as practically irrelevant. Even skilled and super popular musicians of older generations in South Korea are often considered irrelevant by the audience unless they actually contribute something to the new mainstream pop culture of their country. What do you think a slightly older generation pop star of the UK would be seen as? It won't be surprising that the majority doesn't know who Cheryl is in South Korea....well, until now.

I have a question for anyone who might know: I am in the US, and before last year, I was not even aware that this gorgeous creature, this "Cheryl Cole" even existed. Now I am somewhat obsessed with her and her music, and I understand that she has been a big pop star in the UK and other parts of Europe for over 15 years. Can someone please explain to me why in the bloody hell she has never had a hit single in the US? Songs like "I Don't Care," "Call My Name," "Parachute," "Crazy Stupid Love," and "Fight For This Love" are ridiculously catchy, and she certainly looks like a pop star: heck, she looks like a movie star (stunningly beautiful, sexy, and glamorous), and to top it all, she is warm, charismatic, and sweet in interviews. Did her record label ever try to push her music in the US? Did she release singles in America and simply flopped? What happened? Why is she not as big as Rihanna or Katy Perry??
