    When you say look at other peoples work for inspiration, do you mean looking at other brand campaigns or individual art directors/ designers making waves? Love the channel. I’m a newbie who’s trying the plot their art director career 😃

      Great question. I would look at other student books to start to see the level of who you will be competing against for jobs. If you admire someone’s portfolio, work to beat it. Also look at brand campaigns and award manuals to dissect their solution. Did they exaggerate the benefit of their product? Did they flip their product on its head? How did they succeed.

    Ive been looking for art director jobs and Most call for many years of experience what jobs was she applying for? Is she starting as a junior art director? I would be interesting in knowing the job applying process! Thank you!

      Yes. Most of the time you will need to start as a Junior Art Director. Depends on the agency. Some smaller shops start at an art director though you will still be making entry level salary. That was the case for me.

    It is always so great to hear such success stories. Thank you for sharing it with us and inspiring us to push ourselves towards our goal. I have been following your RUclips channel for a while and got to learn so much, so thank you so much for that. Seeing your expertise in areas related to graphic, creative and art direction, I wanted to ask what major should one go for in their masters if they wanna pursue a career in art direction later in life? My major in bachelors is English Literature but I have done many internships in graphic design and would love to pursue the art direction field. I was thinking about Graphic Communication Design, would that be helpful? Thank you so much and apologies for the long message. I hope you have a great day.

      Pallavi I appreciate all the kind words. Any graphic design courses will surely help build the fundamental skills to execute work for your portfolio. There are a lot of great masters programs around art direction specifically like the Texas Creative program at UT or you could go the portfolio school route like Miami Ad School or Brandcenter. Anything that will help you build campaigns for your book is the move. If your specific college offers graphic design courses and you want to create campaigns on the side too, that’s another alt option. Hope that helps and best of luck on your journey.

      @@OpenDoorCreative Thank you so much for the insight, not many creators go a step ahead and help out each of their viewers, so truly appreciate it. Have a great day. ✌🏻

      @@OpenDoorCreative Hi, I researched a bit around the Miami Ad School as you mentioned and it seems like a great learning experience. A question I had, can someone who studied for an art director degree later become a creative director too?

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  5 лет назад +2

      Pallavi absolutely. That’s further along in the promotion funnel. You start off as a Junior Art Director, then an Art Director, Senior Art Director, Associate Creative Director, and then a Creative Director!

    Where should i start to be an art director?

      Definitely continue to look around the channel. Helping people get into art direction is what my channel is all about. I also have a book called Breaking into Art Direction that breaks down the position and helps you build your portfolio from scratch to get a job as an AD: www.amazon.com/Breaking-Into-Art-Direction-Advertising/dp/B09S69MG6C Let me know if you have any questions.

    whats like production design vs film art director?

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  4 года назад

      Tricky question because I can only speak to the advertising art direction job but I'll answer to the best of my ability. Production design goes into the overall aesthetic/style of the scene that is being shot. Film Art Directors have a more cohesive, big-picture vision about how all the artistic elements of a film come together. How do the effects marry with the set, how the set goes with the costumes, how the propping helps tell the story, and so on.

    What is context aware scale?

    • @OpenDoorCreative
      @OpenDoorCreative  3 года назад +1

      Content aware scale is an awesome tool in photoshop that allows you to extend the background of an image without distorting the image’s subject. Definitely RUclips a tutorial and check it out. Worth it.
