  • I'm reading a draft of a letter that I intend to send to two of my state Senators regarding my opposition to a recently proposed bill that calls for tighter gun control measures.
** I am not an attorney, and I am not giving legal advice.

I would do without the "I'm not an important person" bit. The fact you are a united state citizen makes you an important person as per the Declaration of Independence. Governments derive their power by the concent of the governed.
Definitely a good idea bringing up Heller and Bruen and a correct interpretation of the historical test Bruen describes.
I might think about adding some statistics to show the backwards correlation between gun control and gun violence. More gun control = more gun violence almost always.
I applaud your effort, sir, regardless. Even if they dismiss your argument, it can't be dismissed that atleast one citizen is passionate about keeping his rights and not afraid to say so.

Thank you so much. I agree, we are ALL important. I think I was just stating that I'm not in a position of particular authority in this context. But yeah, it would probably be better for me to omit that. This is why I asked for input! Adding the known stats that you mentioned goes perfectly with the point I'm trying to make with these legislators, but I wanted to keep the correspondence short. I'd LOVE to meet with one or two of them for further discussion. Thanks for helping me out again 😁👍

@@shootinitstraight4162 BTW, my state, Mi, has that background check law, apparently. I bought a pistol from my dad and the way it worked was I had to register as the owner with the local sherif or police but I couldn't get the legal form to do so until after I passed a background check.

Wow. It's strange that we have a federal law that prohibits the federal government from forming a gun registry, yet some STATES are free to do so. A gun registry is little more than a vehicle used for eventual confiscation. That's the blueprint used for many 20th century tyrants, if you'll recall history.
Fortunately, my state has no registering requirement, and quite frankly, I would not comply if we did anyway. But that's just ME. I wish you luck in your registration endeavors! 👍
