This song made me buy a mandolin, especially as the ukulele version of this song just wasn't cutting it. (there's a reason why Eddie uses a mandolin!) I'm saving this video for when my mandolin arrives! Thanks for the super clear lesson. :)
THANK YOU! this song is why I’m putting in the effort to learn to play the mandolin. I’m learning it on a a very special mandolin that was my brother-in-law’s who passed about nearly 4 years ago so I can’t put into words what this experience means me. This tutorial is awesome and the time breakdown is really helpful 🙏. Thank you
Due to serious health problems, I am forced to spend a lot of time in bed, or lying on the couch. I've somewhat downsized on my instruments as to what is easier to play reclined. For the past 2 days I've been staring at my mandolin which has been gathering dust hanging on the wall the past few years. Yesterday, I stumbled upon your video. Just wanted to say thanks and to let you know that it was a real blessing for me.
Dude, thank you so much for this. I figured most of it out on my own, but there were a few sketchy parts still, and you cleared it all up for me. Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this.
Hey I love this song and I have not a musical brain, trying to learn the mandolin at the mo. Great that with all your experience you found this and then in no time playing this great track. Hallelujah for the internet! Peace happy playing.
Cheers for the run through, love this song. Played it down the pub and it went down a storm. Thanks for the help makes life easy for us, too busy to figure it out ourselves, sorts
Thank you so much for taking time to show me, a stranger you will never meet, this song. You truly are a good man. You have made me happy and I hope good things come back around to you.
Im so glad for people like you that take the time to share your talent. Ive been messing with this song for a week now, and youve just saved me weeks of geussing games.Imagine if there was internet in the times of vivaldi and beethoven, how much they could have shared, now we have access to eachother, so many different styles, talents and great tips. Thank you
Thank you for posting this. I had not heard of Eddie Vedder or this song or movie before, but your video came up in my try this list. I was intrigued by the arrangement in itself and have now listened to this great song. Thanks again for breaking it down and sharing same. I have almost got there with it.
Thank you so much, fantastic work, i wish you lived near me and could be my mando teacher! I started playing today, and almost have this whole song finished!
omg... thank u so much!!!! I just got my mandolin, spent forever tuning it and this is officially my first song ever! u make it sooooo much easier!!!! Thanks a lot!!!
I have just come back to your video after years of not playing the song... Thanks so much it's the most accurate lesson out there! You should do some more?? Cheers!
I learned this song from your tutorial, now it's fun to play and easy. When I first heard this song it seemed to be difficult to play but after a few minutes I managed to play it now. I play mandolin for 15 years in an orchestra and guitar for 5 years but never played with chords only notes and it's fun to play with some chords and variations on mandolin. Thanks for your tutorial. It really helped me.
Thanks very much, had that tune bouncing around in my head for the year or so since the Movie and soundtrack. It popped into my head again yesterday, I looked it up on RUclips, pulled out and tuned up my Mando( I am a Guitar palyer mostly)...and within 5 minutes I am playing and singing the song. Thanks a Million Bro, Appreciate the effort!!
Thank you so much for this video man, i really apreciatte this, I just borrow a mandolin just to play this song and it would has been completely impossible without your tutorial. Lots of thanks from Spain. Peace.
Hi! It would be still great to see some more videos, especially for beginners, as it's hard to find some useful mando stuff on YT. Also the one about playing guitar songs on mandolin sounds interesting. Best regards from Germany
wow, thanks a lot for posting this!! I don't play mandolin- I play my grandfather's old old mandolin banjo instead, and you probably know it's just a mandolin with a banjo head so it sounds pretty cool. You did a 100% accurate job, so thanks!!
Nice tutorial, just got a mandolin from my grandfather and though of this song immediately an can't wait to surprise my father with it. I'm having a bit of a hard time following the strumm pattern due to the framerate though.
@mikefilmz, I had a similar backround (viola to mandolin), and have been playing the mandolin for about 10 months and absolutely love it. the picking takes awhile to get used to, and the strings require a bit more effort to finger than violin, but other than that, your left hand muscles are totally set up to play mandolin. It would probably help if u had some experience with guitar (for chords), and celtic and/or blues music on the violin (for style).
Thanks man, I've only been playing for a week and I already (kind of) can play a song. Now If only I could get a music sheet of it and teach myself to read it.
Cool, i pretty much worked it out from scratch, but saw a couple of bits here, i learned it 3 days ago, first song on a uke, i worked out about 30 tunes now already, i cant put it down.. Anyway thanks...and upload some more stuff dude!! Peaceout from the U.K.
I did notice in the beginning, the picking is slightly off. when you go up the strings 4321 near the end of the first 2 bars, it sounds like he plays 3231 instead.
I think I'll do what you did and go for a cheap one to begin with. I'll take what you said in account about the wood later on if I become more interested. Have fun traveling. And please upload some more videos when you're done traveling, it would be very handy.
Im musically disfigured, haha Im terrible at every instrument, but I do play a mean ukulele, how much does a bad ass mandolin go for, Id love to get one man, youve just pumped me up to get one, thank you!
Hi very nice Tutorial and very nice playing... play Ukulele but I'm thinking to buy a mandolin...what's your Model and Brand???:) you conviced me! greets from Italy Daniele Russo
15 years after your post and still appreciated here in the Netherlands!
This was EXTREMELY helpful! It's a lot easier than it seems too! Thanks! This song is pretty much the reason why I wanted to learn mandolin! :)
