    Only very powerful or specifically designed piercing weapons can go through both well made chainmail and padding. The belief that it was weak in this way is a total misconception.

    • @justins9886
      @justins9886 Год назад

      ANY piercing weapon will go through chain mail, the padding was not nearly thick enough to stop it. The flesh and muscle of the person would be more resistant to the piercing than the padding would be.

      @Justin S literally owned, wore, and tested it for myself. Unless it's a spear/javelin or heavy bow/crossbow, it won't do enough to seriously harm you.

    • @cmc2184

      Depends, a weapon well made enough or a big feck off sized Viking swinging a two hander axe at ya. I don't put too much faith into my armour at that point unless I'm wearing mjolnir armour. If it doesn't cut through the blunt force trauma alone might be enough to do ya.

    • @romansochacki7678
      @romansochacki7678 Год назад

      @CM C yeah, you don't aim at armour unless you're certain it will end the fight. Blunt force can work if you can hit hard enough, but weapons not designed for forceful stabs are unlikely to do enough. You may even damage your weapon. That's why most of the time you should try to fight around armour, not directly against it.

      By the 12th Century. The era of the "Viking" was pretty much over. I have looked into whether "Vikings" used maces and I cannot find any evidence.

    Always nice to see viking/pagan related videos.
    But it's always sad to see people decorating their round shields with an Aegishjalmer, a late medieval/renaissance *Christian* symbol. In time closer to us than to the Vikings.

      Are we talking the average warrior with all of their equipment? The average Viking was a farmer. They were armed with spear, a few javelins or throwing axes, and a seax or axe as a sidearm. Armor would be a helmet, a shield, and maybe a padded tunic.
      A samurai was a professional warrior. He would be armed with a horse, a yumi bow, a naginata, a katana, and a wakizashi. They would also be armored in a form of lamellar from head to ankle.
      The samurai wins. But if you are referring to the beast samurai and Norse housecarls then you have a more even fight. But the Samurai were mainly horse archers and would still likely win.

      @@wild24epicbattles8 hm acctualy, if you ever heard of the jomsvikings that were well equipped, trained soldiers with glima training and bassicly everything from the medeival period you would know that the samurai don't stand a chance. They had better defence, offense and equipment. In terms of glima training it was similar to Judo and old english boxing

    Despite popular belief that viking warriors were muscle bound tattooed he men, during part of my thesis while doing my history degree in the early 90s was examing bone and muscle structure from warriors from graves at flodden, stamford Bridge, Bosworth and few
    viking and dane battlefield s 90% were normal men with massive work fatigue and poor diets, so access to the gym working out every day was not happening 😅and they were not kitted out with full armour and highly decorated swords, these silly films and series nowadays make me laugh 😂.
