    Doctor Sleep was brilliant
A far better film about Shining than The Shining, wasn't expecting that.

Dr Sleep was great book and this scene was brilliantly edited to show how Danny's story is as much about surviving the the thing that killed his farther, the burdensome gift (the Shining) and how a reliance on alcohol to escape reality eventually turns corrosive and destructive for most people in the end. Danny's ultimate triumph is in knowing his own weaknesses and to deny that they influence him as much as they did his poor tortured father.
In both books, The Shinning and Dr. Sleep, Jack Torrance is a much more a sympathetic character with an over-empathic gift while being sequestered in such a remote, lonely place filled with bad/lurid psychopathic residue where his only "medicine" has become gasoline to a fire he alone struggled with but could never fully put out - which Danny eventually understands, confronts and then lures his enemies to a place they don't have powers to resist as they have already given into the consumption of their own desires without conscience.

@@1ManNamedDan my wife read the book and she explained the story to me because she was always excited to pick it back up and finish it. We loved this movie. This director knows how to capture haunting imagery; haunting of hill house, midnight mass House of Usher, and this was just a perfect depiction of how seeing ghosts and reading minds can have horrible consequences.

@fearloathingingeneral2877, The SHINING takes place BEFORE Daniel Torrence reaches adulthood. Dr Sleep is us following Torrence as an Adult. READ THE BOOK it's WAAAY BETTER than the screen "adaptation". This story picks up where the Shining left off and is the pinnacle of Daniel Torrence's existence in that Dick tells him about a child named ABRA and that he NEEDS TO PROTECT her because she too has the shining and must be protected from the TRUE KNOT.
