I'm going to make the second stitching pony. That will make my life MUCH easier. Thanks!!
Love these videos. Thanks
Thank you Lois, you've given me a few ideas!.......ATB
How nice... thank you for sharing !
Thank you. Very interesting and useful, and well explained.
Hello Lady ! Interesting video, indeed !
Your first stitching vise, the old one, just remembered me the one that was used by a leather craftsman who was working in the airbase were I started my job. I was 21 at that time and I was fascinated by that tool.
It was self standing and the clamping action was commanded by one foot.
So quite a solid stuff it was !
Easy and fast to release the piece of leather and also fast to re-clamp it.
Now, I'm 69, I have a "wood making" hobby so I would like to make one, the one "sitting onto" or, at least, the legs on it.
I think it will be a reasonably steady one and I won't need a table to put it on.
I do apologize about my English 😄 stay well 💚
I'm a woodworker who's starting to do leatherwork as well... and I find all these solutions to be awful. Indescribably, horrifyingly bad. Sorry, but that's my reaction. I will get a small tabletop soft-jawed vise any day over these solutions. There are many such excellent vises made for small quality work. And I don't have to sit on it and squeeze it with my knees or any of this other nonsense.
Also will work fabulously for holding a child's head still while trimming their hair.
Lol
I know if three brothers who had a binding press could be put to that use. jeffpeachey.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/stooges.jpg They stole from the best! Arbuckle and Keaton. jeffpeachey.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/keaton.jpg God bless. Good day.
Hi there good stuff and as always interesting, many thanks
Thanks for the information. The second clam/pony could be improved with a bicycle seatpost quick release in place of the wing nut and bolt.
The clam reminds me of viking age hand vices
You might want to attach some scrap leather to the top of the stitching pony, to avoid damaging the piece you are working on.
Thank you for the information, much appreciated
I see in your background a steel railroad rail on your bench. These work great with magnets to secure your piece as well. Nice and heavy to avoid your work sliding around.
Very interesting. Thank you!!
Absolutely brilliant!
Was looking for ideas to make stitching easier. Clicked on yours, thinking since you are a woman, you might have a clever edge. And I was not proved wrong. Brilliant tips for a beginner like me!! Thank you for posting!
Thanks a lot I am glad you enjoyed Lois’s presentation and she hopes to get some more leather project videos made soon.
cheers Ben and Lois
Thanks. Thoughtful and considerate. Wise words indeed about investing little until your commitment requires more. Well done. God bless.
thanks for sharing the ideas I'm just starting about this leather craft
Thanks for the video, Lois! So educational! I love doing green woodwork and whittling and am getting into doing leatherwork for making sheathes for my knives and small leather bags. This video really helped! I've done weaving before and have really enjoyed that! Again thanks for the video!!!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it and it was useful. Good luck with your leather projects !
thats great to see the 3 versions, is there a specific type of work that benefits being used on the larger more robust clam vs the stitching pony?
Basically, if you're going to do any amount of leatherwork the bigger Clam makes life so much easier, quick release and more comfortable to use. All the methods work for any size project but may need a little more patience :)
Si. Se llama PINZA DE GUARNICIONERO en español y es para coser piensas más ROBUSTAS
(La almeja da ese espacio para que quepan) como maletas mochilas o fundas de armas que no caben en el pony.
El.pony es para coser cinturones principalmente.
Super helpful! There's a video that shows how to build a cheap steam box
Love this, I'm just newly starting this leather stuff, looking for idea to do some practice with saddle stitching, but hesitate to get the pony from online, they cost a lot, then I found you, thank you for sharing such great idea
ThankYou!! I’m gonna make me one!!!🙂🙂👌
Thank you for your video.
Thanks for the upload Lois.
On a previous video you used different colour thread 🧵 can I ask again where you got it from please.
I buy in bulk so got mine from Julius Koch in Germany but in the past I've also bought reels from Abbey England or if you only need small amounts Leodis Leather (Ian Atkinson) used to do shorter lengths. :)
Good video
Hi Lois 👋
Love this video. Can’t say I could see it as I’m severely visually impaired but love listening to yours and your other off when you do your videos and I’ve learnt so much by listening I hopefully will do some level work as I’m taking up wood turning but also the pole life. And thinking about doing some leather sheets for all the different tools especially when I go in the woods to do my poll life. Actually if you have a half listening to one of his RUclips clips when he was in the woods with a pole leave demonstrating how to use it whilst he knocked down learning all about the Bodgers. Keep up the great work and I was gutted I was in Hereford for six months two years ago at the blind college I wished online user then I think I done a course with you. Keep up the great videos
Really pleased that you enjoy the videos and good luck with all your projects.
