Angela, I really enjoyed seeing these lovely lamps repurposed. I have rewired more than a few vintage lamps as well and the one thing that was missing from your video was an underwriters knot. This knot is done after feeding the wire through the lamp before attaching the wire to the socket. Its purpose is to provide stress relief in the event that someone pulls the wire the connection is not jeopardized. It is a very useful little extra that helps to insure safety. 🙏🏻💜 stay well
And a mention of the hot and neutral wires and the smooth and ridged sections of wire to help tell them apart.
I learned about these additional bits from viewing other videos.
Great channel PF!
I just found a gorgeous 60s/70s vintage lamp and needed to rewire. This was really helpful.
This was excellent! So helpful and a great skill to have in your back pocket!! I love how that little lamp brightened up your coffee area!!!
Merci!
Thank you!! Oh the lamps I've passed up because of wiring! No more....antique lamps lookout. I'm coming for you. 💋
I’m an old dog that enjoys learning new tricks. You lesson on lamp rewiring was superb!
Angela, this was a fab skill to share. Learning how & getting comfortable with electrical can make upgrades financially reasonable. I graduated from lamps to Ceiling fixtures... No Problems with any of my electrical endeavors & it's been decades since my first project 👼🏾🕊️💗
Wow! Ceiling fixtures! Well done! Impressive!
Have bought about 3 new lamps in my lifetime; I am 79. All others in 2 houses were acquired secondhand, some free! Needless to say, I have many interesting lamps, some valuable, and some I created myself from vintage appliances, including a fan, and yes, both the fan and light work at the same time! Have rewired most, and changed sockets on some. Anyone can learn to do it and it's fun.
This is so so cool Angela - thank you!
Love the lamps-great job rewiring
NEW SUB HERE - Thankfully, I figured out how to do this last year, b/c I kept buying used lamps from the thrift store and they often needed new wiring or other parts. Still, I like watching your show (a recent addition to my line up).
I will be rewiring my gorgeous vintage lamp this weekend. Thank you for the tutorial, I was bit intimidated.
Bought 2 lamps from HomeGoods & less than a yr, both of them stopped working. Of course, too late to take back. Planned on having them rewired, but just haven't. Now I can do it myself! Thxs
Thanks for teaching us how to rewire a lamp👍🙋🏻♀️
I have numerous cool old lamps that need rewiring, , thanks for the instructions on rewiring.
Excellent video! Thanks for teaching us this skill! Not as hard as I thought it would be! Beautiful vintage lamp! 😉
Thanks!
Love it!! I've not seen those kinds of plugs and not knowing how to deal with that has kept me from rewiring my grandmother's iron floor lamp. I did read an article from an antiques guy that said if you do need to replace the socket that you should save the old housing and put the new socket in the old housing so the whole thing still looks old, so I thought I would give that a go. In for a penny, in for a pound, after all. Thanks so much for doing this video! This is close to my heart.
A confidence builder! Won't have to rely upon hubby...he just lost a job! Thank you!
Angela it was great to see how to to change the lamp cable. Did not have any idea how to do it. Thanks to show us how to do it.
This is an amazing life skill!! Thank you, Angela!
You made it look so easy! Thanks for the tutorial and glimpse into your beautiful home.
I needed this to repurpose my grandmas vintage lamps. They don’t make them like that anymore.
This was so helpful! I looked over the article in the magazine and it still seemed intimidating. Guess I'm a visual learner thank you!
This is so helpful. it's so nice to learn a helpful skill like this from someone whose brain thinks like mine!
Thank you very much!
Very interesting.
Even at my age, (64) I can do this!!
Of course, you can, Gwen!
Good for you! All I can do is sew!
Very interesting! Well done. ☺️
Merci!
You can buy new fabric cord and reproduction plugs that look authentic and really compliment vintage lamps.
Life in the country, flies happen.
❤️
What about polarity!?
What is the email address for problems with my subscription? Thank you. Angela, I really appreciate this channel! You and your family have benefitted my life in many ways!
angela@parisiennefarmgirl.com ❤
💋👍🏻 Greetings from Germany.
You’re so adept at creating. Have you considered making your own lampshades? Fabric, wire and weak cardboard. Check RUclips.
Lovelybut missleading name, you're not in Europe and your supplies reflect American low voltage electricity.
😢
I love that idea, using a wicker basket for tools!!!
For all of us visual leaners this was so easy to follow, You never disappoint. Thank you.
Thank you, Lee-Ann!😀
Enjoyed the video. 2 comments from my experience. You don't need power drill! Screw driver works fine. And in future, add underwriter's knot.
Angela, you mentioned that your magazine is based on European traditions but didn't you also mean to include the magnificent blue and white china which originated in China? And how can you decorate without the extraordinarily textiles of ancient India such as paisley, your beloved plaids and cashmere (which comes from Kashmir!). Remember, those two brilliant civilizations were creating all this beauty that you love 5,000 years ago when our white ancestors were living in caves. My understanding of life and beauty didn't really begin until I studied and acknowledged those two magnificent civilizations. ❤ ❤
Noted! Thank you, Christina!

Angela, that might even make an interesting article in a future issue! ❤ 🏠 🛋
I have so many lamps I need to do this too and was so intimidated! They have sat in the closet for decades. Thank you so much for this! Gah I cannot believe I was so nervous about something so easy! Those snap on plugs are awesome!
Great! Please post and tag on Instagram once you complete the rewiring! Would love to see.
@@ParisienneFarmgirl Ok 🤗
I haven't read through all 125 comments, may I mention 2 things about this very cute lamp that you have... 1. I noticed that you did not discuss tying an "underwriters knot" within the socket so that the wires do not pull away from the screws and
2. You did not mention that there is a hot wire and a neutral wire. The hot wire side gets attached under the brass screw, the neutral wire gets attached under the silver screw. This provides the safe polarity that is needed.
Again, perhaps this has already been added in the comments above. I enjoy your videos very much and hope this comment was made with respect. 😊
I meant... this comment is made with respect.
wow, important info! thanks so much!!!!
This was such a helpful video. It doesn't look too difficult!! You make it very informative!! Thank you!!! 🙏❤️💚❤️💚❤️
Going to the storage closet to get that lamp…..
UPDATE; After two trips to the hardware store~lamp FIXED!
😊🤗✨🕊
Woohoo! Congrats!
This video was great. You seem to able to do all things Angela. I've learned something new today and I thank you for it.
This is so helpful! Thank you for posting this I was going to look up how to rewire a lamp when this popped up on my subscription page!
Thanks for this educational video. Your rewired lamp looks so sweet above the coffee maker. What about recovering the Target lampshades with some vintage fabric if you don't find replacement ones? I envision them with some embroidered fringe on the edge. I love your "pretty" toolbox. Funny, my dad would always yell at us as teenagers "Who took my hammer?" Love your videos, beautiful home and family!
This video needed wayyy more close ups.
You forget a very important details, the UL Loop and showing the polarity of the wire hot and neutral.
What about polarity of the socket or plug? Or the wire having the ridges on one side?
I’ve been re-wiring lamps for decades since my first vintage lamp from the flea market. I once bought 3 vintage glass Leviton lamps, took them apart, and remade them my own style. I only have two lamps that I purchased new. Shades are so difficult to find though.
Sounds like me. I even make my own original shades.
They are hard to find but I'm on a mission! Stay tuned.
You should not place your hand at the bottom of the part in the direction that you are using the screwdriver. If the screwdriver slips you can get hurt.
Awesome video Ang! I learned how to rewire a lamp a few years ago when I bought an old lamp, plugged it in and electrocuted myself! Lesson learned and a new skill developed. I lost a fingernail and feeling in my fingersfor a few days. 🤪
Oh no!!!!! I hope you're okay! ❤
Thank you Angela! Regards from France. Amandine
Thank you for this great educational video!
Tha was so great. Thank you for teaching me this valuable skill.
Thank you for showing us how to rewire the lamp. Cute lamp by the way..❤️
Hi Angela... I love Old World...but, I love English Country more....my grand mother was from Wales...
Than you I saw this done decades ago, so needed this refresher! The lamp looks cute in the kitchen.
😁
The Holiday edition is fabulous. The whole year has been wonderful. It reminds me of the old Victoria Magazine but it is uniquely you. Rewiring a lamp is one of the most important thrifters skills. That lamp is darling. I love lamps in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Katie! So happy you enjoyed it! Please spread the word. 😀
Looking forward to a Thanksgiving dinner video. Maybe a recipe share. 🧡
Love this skill but I'm over the edison bulbs...lol.
I have an idea for the lampshades for the vintage mustard lamps. Cover those shades with cloth, wallpaper, or what fabric look you like, then hot glue luxurious fringe around base, wa-la! Custom shades just what you want! Go to fabric sewing store and/or flea market for the materials...
Thankyou. I’ve walked past many a lamp in years past. No more, oh no💪🏼Thankyou my friend. Xx
Thanks for the tutorial!
Unrelated, sort of...but what is your intro song??
Angela, where did you learn about electrical works? Can you fix faulty tv and radios? And change capacitors and resistors and do soldering work on electrical boards? Just curious to know?
How do you rewire floor to ceiling tension lamps?
This is so interesting because I’m really handy like this too and I swear your fingers look exactly like mine but your skin complexion is different :0
Yikes! ! You missed an essential step! Where is the underwriter's knot? It's a basic safety feature when you're rewiring -- it takes the strain off the cord if it is pulled and prevents the wires from getting ripped out of the socket.
Thank you very much. Take care and God bless
Terrible; you fail to address polarity and which side of the wire attaches to the gold screw and which side of the wire attaches to the silver screw. This is NOT safe!!
Do you not have to watch to see that youre attaching the positive wire to the correct screw? Some othe sites ask you to do that? Just want to be sure i get it right! Btw, i just followed you on IG! Thsnk you!❤
Ladies, when you head on down to home depot, please don't ask them for a "plugger". 😆
Hey Angela! Love the video! Do you have a resource for requiring an antique chandelier? I’m very interested in upping my game!
Thank you for giving a class on this! I did not buy a milkglass lamp because it needed rewiring. Now, I can reference your video.
I love thinking of the likely tiny Oriental hands that cast, painted, glazed then wired your lamps long ago.
love the old plugs if they work i keep them they add to the authenticity of the light
Thanks Angela🌸
Honey just clip the wire shorter an pull a little bit threw lol Less op to damage lamp an cleaner . FYI my Father words to me years ago 😉
Wait. I need to rewire my vintage lamps? 😳
THANK YOU 😍
😊
Ok, the "C" shape. Why and where does that end of the wire need to be? Thanks!
lovely
Angela you look amazing,Vous etes tres belle.
Thank you - thank you - thank you! I've been wanting to learn this! Fabulous! You are Fabulous!
Well..thank YOU! Please let me know when you re-wire your lamp so you can let me know how it went.
This was super useful! I think I can do this!
You can do it! Get cracking! 😊
I really enjoyed this video, Thank you ~ Janet 😘
😘
You mentioned the difficulty in finding lamp shades. That's true. I have made a couple shades along the way. Not as hard as it first appears though it does take some skill and patience...you have both. 🥰 If making from scratch is daunting, you can customize store-bought shades to enhance your decor style of Old World.
I'm saving this video because you made it look so easy that I think I could actually do this. Thank you so much. Invaluable information. G-d Bless you Angela. Shalom Aleichem Mishpocah.
You can do it, Sarah! I have faith in you! Go for it!
@@ParisienneFarmgirl Lol. Thankyou I will. 😀
Very interesting. I learnt something tonight 👏 If I see a vintage lamp I like, I will be confident to buy it and rethread it myself.
I love the lamps and that you used them in the kitchen! Nicely done!!! have an antique round metal fan that needs a new plug...I guess I better work on that!
Thank you this is very helpful learn how to wire a lamp thanks for the tips This video was very helpful
Last week my daughter asked me why I've never rewired an old lamp. Now, you have given me the confidence to do it! ❤
That is just precious! Love all your layering of beautiful finds.
Thank you for the tips on rewiring vintage lamps. Blessings!!
Thank you for showing close-ups of each step! It gives me confidence that I will be able to do this. :)
Well that was easy! The shade must have sparkles on it!✨
Love this video! I have a lamp waiting for new wiring and now I feel confident I can do it. Thank you.
