Also, hotel cost depends on your budget, we paid 2000 per night but there were more options in similar budget in Dharali. The season opens from May onwards (when Chardham yatra starts), so you will have more options to stay.

How is this place for solo travellers? Planning to visit around mid April this year.. is public transport /shared buses readily available?
Shared bus can be a challenge as Gangotri opens in May. But you should be able to hitch hike and go. Rest cabs from Uttarkashi are easily available
