Those medium to heavy rods take no skill. Try catching a 10 pound fish on 5 pound line, you’ll turn to a man real quick
@@houstonswisha143 not sure that would work too well with a fish that size in that kind of current while trying to avoid rocks. Doing it in a Placid body of water with no obstruction is just all about taking your time. But I agree on the heavy rod crap. On the Outer Banks most of the time and I see these guys with massive surf rods catching big red drum. I go with a bit heavier line, but never nothing stronger than a medium rod for those heavy pulling fish. Takes all the fun and skill out of it

About 3 years ago, I was walking from my car to the river bank, I met my mate on the way and he said "you giving her a throw?" I replied "yeah, one throw is all I need!"
I got to the bank and he sat on the bridge, I said "watch and learn" I casted out and 'BANG', I hit a 14lb Atlantic Salmon, played it out for about 6or7 mins, pulled her out and wacked it, put it in the bag and went home!
Pure luck, but was nearly like role play the way it ended up!

Salmon River, upstate NY, 30 miles north of Syracuse, is World Class Salmon/Steelhead Trout fishing....last week of sep up until Thanksgiving....I don't know if this Man is there but upstate NY is great fishing.

I remember the one time my foot was broken. I was fishing in a Norwegain salmon river and had a big one on the hook. I wasn't allowed to step in the water with my foot, that's when the salmon got off the hook right in front of me. I wanted to suprise my parents so badly with a good catch.

Ive fished alot with the OG blue fox lures built similar to the one used in this video. They make little sonic vibrations with the bell. Fish tear em up here in the south.
Blue fox lures are definitely amazing! I use those and my steelhead slammers. Only 2 lures you will find in my box.

Really makes you think. If that fish were in a supermarket, it’d be average size. But it put up such a strong fight for its size. It’s amazing a fish can pack so much force into a little body
If you’ve ever filleted one it’s literally all muscle compared to other fish. My dad and I catch 3-4 salmon in the Sacramento River and he once got a 55lb king and once we filleted it we got 36lb of filets. That’s allot of muscle for a fish.
@@Fierag well, to be honest I’m pretty sure fishing humans would be a similar experience. After all, fishing in general is the strength in your arms and back as opposed to all the strength of the fish. But of course, trout and salmon are strong since they come from rivers with strong currents.
They swim against the current of a river to spawn. They are built different.
