I think that’s why they did it - they know it’s impossible so they want the request to be so unreasonable that the hostage can’t refuse and they get what they want.
Despite the whole "criminal mastermind" trope that filmmakers like to exploit, most criminals operate on the same train of logic that religious zealots and Karens do, which means everyone wants to wear the conductor hat and blow the whistle, and the tracks are just there as a suggestion.
“These robbers are just unreasonable!” Sorry that just sounded hilarious to me. Like yea atleast give her 15 minutes sheesh who these cold blooded killers think they are!🤔
Depends on the size of the diamonds. You could probably get a quarter of a million in like 2 minutes if you get good sized diamonds. I’ll research diamond values and make an edit, but it’s not unreasonable considering she works there. Edit: Even just a one carat diamond is worth 4k on average. If you grab just 5 3 carat diamonds you can net nearly 250k. Again, considering she works there, it’s likely she can easily discern the highest value diamonds and get more than a quarter million in just 3 minutes and walk out on minute 4 though it depends on walk time to the vault and out.
I really loved this scene, when watching this episode I literally replayed it a few times. Just the relief on that mother's face and the way Officer Nolan swooped in like such a hero. I love this police partnership by the way, they were such opposites but similar when it counted. Love them
@@Ncsd114 the scene in this video is from the episode of The Rookie, that I was preferring too. I can't remember which season this is. Either season 4 or 5.
This is the second time they’ve done this. They had the first guy rob a bank and this lady works at a jewelry store so they’re having her steal jewels. I think they were fine with getting either because they’re obviously both very valuable so they just want some thing they can get a lot of money.
@@alex_enbee Diamonds are tracked these days though. The big ones at least. I think 1 carat ones or less aren't. How many of those would it take to make a quarter of a million dollars though? 🤔
@@ChibiChula a lot. It all depends on how well the diamond checks out on the parameters the market sets for them but a one carat diamond can be between $1k-$11k. So for argument’s sake let’s say $6.5k to split the difference, you’d need 39 one carat diamonds to get a quarter million dollars worth, and that’s a very rough estimate.
@@LairdErnst Yeah, you're probably right. Though I think some of the higher quality 1 carat diamonds are also tracked. Of course it's unlikely these guys know that diamonds are tracked so, given that she wants these guys to get caught, unless they specify not to she probably would have deliberately grabbed at least some of the ones most likely to get them caught when sold. 😅
The they do things the real life way because this is a show, if you wanna watch police doing stuff the real life way then you should watch on patrol live
Nolan is portrayed as such a "natural police," as they said in the Wire but they have to keep him in uniform because the actual guy his character is based on never rose above patrol officer, lol.
I hate stuff like this. A quarter million in DIAMONDS? Yeah have fun sitting on those forever. Nobody will ever buy them from you. Same reason why nobody steals art. Some stuff is to hot to ever sell to anyone. Does Hollywood not have adviser?
And just because it's rare doesn't mean it never happens and let's be real, anyone who'd try to steal anything by hostages to force someone else to do it for them isn't even close to being skilled, smart or disciplined enough to be able to pull a real heist. So they watch a lot of movies, over estimate their own intelligence and abilities, and when they ultimately fail because it is the only possible outcome that their ignorance and stupidity could lead to, then they will just blame anything and everything except themselves because their plan was 'Percfect' 😂😂😂😂
Art thefts do happen, and in some instances, the belief is that there is usually a prearranged shadow buyer. Basically, client hires thieves to acquire art for them, pays out a good sized sum usually as a business expense, and then holds onto art as part of private collection.
Nolan actualy was a genius in this. i loved the idea of typing "are they listening?". I can see why he wanted to be a detective
