I think the only reason the guy took a liking to him is because he figured out he can go back in time some how and he wants Takemichi to go back and save his older brother

The Yakuza changed overtime, they’re still bad but they have codes that make them protect and take care of people who lost everything. There’s a news about Yakuza helping Victims of Tsunami from the early 2000s, and the Police made a deal with Yakuza where they can do almost anything as long as they don’t hurt the innocents.
Yeah but after they helped they charged those people money and were doing all kind of stupid things. A lot of people who are "helped" by Yakuza would be better without their help and demands.
One thing, when takemitchy remembers mikey beating up the dude, they were not showing that mikey was aggressive. The meaning of that moment was that Mikey didn't approve the fighting club, even Draken said that only stained Toman's reputation
I wish it was as easy as telling Hina's little brother Naoto to just do something with her before the day she dies. You'll see that it's not that easy sadly
There is also a gigantic problem with killing one of the leaders or the driver. You know... that it's murder. And if he kills them then he goes to jail even still that could not work. And if he goes to jail then he can't do anything to change fate anymore since he is in jail. And even if he doesn't get immediately caught then there is the problem of having the will to kill a person as well as his time in the past will start ticking till he gets caught
Delinquents in Japan are not the same as in America.. basically this kind of delinquents (Toman and the others gags you'll see along the anime) are inspired in the Yankii style of the early 2000's (the clothes, hair, the actions - just like how Mikey grabbed Takemichi from the hair, that's common move in japan, the way they talk, the bikes, the gang name, the uniforms, etc) and ppl enter in this kind of gang when they're on middle school, that's why there's so many students there, that's when they form the group; basically these "delinquents" are mostly like part of Japan's culture.. I mean there are obviously criminal organizations like the Yakuza but what Mikey are talking about is an era just like when his brother was alive. Just riding their bikes, fighting another gangs and protecting their friends, messing around, etc but midding their business, not harming 3rd person's, just like that that's why he wanna change the delinquents of nowadays.. that's why Takemichi was so amazed in the way Mikey turned out in the future (murder, drugs, prostitution, etc) So yea, this kind of delinquents is culture, well most likely a subculture. You could look up for more on internet, it's really interesting n.n
I literally just caught up to the manga ..... just saying yall are ahead of the next trend reaction this story is absolutely on the edge of your seat amazing it is literally in my top 3 of currently ongoing story. I dint even care to check it out but after reading the first ch I couldn't stop and kept reading it is crazy good in my opinion I love it
delinquents are actually biker bangs in japan called bosozuku which is part of the yankii, a youth subculture in japan that's based on rebellion and embraces social hierarchy hence they are called delinquents.

To explain about how Takemitchy started his travel back into time. He was pushed onto the tracks, he was nearly hit by the train but instead time travelled back to the past on the same day. He did not die. On the same day that he had travelled back to 12 years ago, he met Tachibana Naoto, told Naoto about him time traveled and that Naoto and Hinata died 12 years in the future today. This may have been the trigger that allowed Takemitchy to travel back and forth in time when he shake Naoto's hand and Naoto kind of figured out after the handshake. 12 years later, Naoto on the day Takemitchy was pushed down the tracks, Naoto remembered Takemitchy telling him that Takemitchy 'fell' down the tracks and nearly dying by the approaching train. He was prepared and saved Takemitchy this time . Takemitchy woke up at night after being saved from the tracks which is also about the same time at night when he shoke Naoto's hand 12 years ago.
