Thanks Amy for making this video. I have successfully propagated African Violets in soil, water, and in soil using a covered container. The wicking system actually makes sense. The one thing I love to do propagating African Violets is so to remove and propagate suckers. Actually my favorite method. I usually have to place the African Violet suckers in a plastic bag to retain moisture. I believe that with your system I can easily propagate and don't have to use a sealed plastic bag. I have always found that propagation in soil is much faster than water. You have seemed to found the ultimate way. Thanks once again and may the Lord bless you.
To watch me prepare this leaf for propagation and see how to set up an African violet leaf for the water wicking method, here's a link to my video: ruclips.net/video/mC2KyA0Voos/видео.html
I only have one African violet and about 6 months ago I put it on a wick and it just loves it! Also, I use my MSU orchid fertilizer and the African violet has responded really well with it. It takes only short breaks once in a while and then flowers again. So much more than it used to.
I'm so happy for you! 😊 They're a lot of fun to grow and so easy to grow on wicks. How much MSU do you feed yours with? Have a great day and happy growing! 😇🌺🌸⚘️
I use 1/2 tbs per gallon. Same for orchids. My reservoir is quite large so I don’t need to fill often. Makes it so easy! I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for doing them!
Love African Violets, too. I had a big collection years ago, but life happened and i had to give them away. I just found space in my window for another African Violet. Right beside my Orchids 😊. Yes, wicking does make caring for AV easier. I use little cuttings off a clothesline cord for wicks. I also have a few self watering pots. This is new, I'm going to try it!
There's always room for one more AV...and one more orchid...in my house! lol! This was by far the easiest way I've propagated an AV. (Anything to make growing easier is good!) Let me know how it works for you...I think you'll be surprised!
💜🤍 Yes! I began wick propagating a leaf (from a purple/white combo color plant) about a month after you did. It hasn't pushed out a baby yet but i do feel resistance when tugging on the leaf. So, yes I'm certain it will be a success! This wicking method is easy peasy. Everyone should try it. 😊😇 Thank You! 😇😊
@@OrchidWhisperer Thank you for discussing the wicking method. I think I’m mixing too strong a formula of Schultz. You said 90ppm, so I will dilute mine. Blessings back to you. You Grace us all!
I did at least a half dozen leaf cuttings only one was in a self watering pot. Guess which one was leaps and bounds more vigorous and faster growing than the all rest? 🤩
I have noticed that you aren’t cutting the V’s in your tinted glasses anymore. What is the method that your using now? I have noticed something on the inside of the tinted glasses but I can’t figure it out what it is. I have followed you with your orchids for a while but have now turned to African Violets. Have a great afternoon!!!!!
Would love to hear a video about what your thoughts are about the violets that do not seem to respond to wick watering. I too love this method but find some violets may not like it. By the way I am in New Jersey so not all that humid year round.
Hi Tamera! It's rather a mystery why some won't respond to wick watering. But some refuse the method. I wonder if certain AVs do need drier conditions, that's the only thing I can think of. Thanks so much for watching and have a great day! :)
I buy some of these leaves from Lyndon Lyon, and others have been gifted to me. I order them in the spring or summer...they won't ship when it's too cold. Happy growing! :)
Hi Barbara! I have pinned a comment with a link to the video about how I propagated this leaf and what I used. You can see exactly how I did this. Happy growing! 😇
@@tksixangels44 hi! If you're using a wick, keep water in the reservoir below the bottom of the inside of the pot. If it accidentally goes dry, run some water through the top of the pot til it starts running into the reservoir, and then refill it as usual. Happy growing! 😇
Not until the babies are pretty mature...I'll do a video when I divide this one in a month or 2, depending on how fast the babies grow. Have a great day, Lenore! 😇
Hi! I don't grow my AVs under lights. They grow in an eastern facing window in my house and that's plenty of light for them. But for propagating...it may be useful. You can give it a try and see if the leaf propagates quicker. Keep me posted...I wish you lots of growing success!

Beautiful violets where do you get your wicks ? How do you set the pots up for using the wicks do you need two pots ?

Hi love your videos. Question 🤔
Do u have to keep water always in the bottom?
How long did it rake before you noticed roots on the plants you used a wick on?
@@tksixangels44 I think they were rooted in about 3 or 4 weeks. 😇
Oh gosh wonder if I should do one in the wicking set up and leave one in water 🤔 what do you think?
Hi Paula! That's exactly what I would do. I hope they propagate easily for you. 😇
@Orchid Whisperer Ok sweetie I will switch them tomorrow! Thanks dear! ❤️
Can you tell us how to know how much water to use when propagating leaves?

Amy, at what point do you replant the propagated leaves or how do you separate the baby from the mother leaf?
