The viney things with 5 leaves per branch are Virginia Creeper - it will absolutely take over and even get under your siding if you aren't careful. White vinegar, salt and Dawn dish liquid in a spray bottle will kill them but will also kill your flowers. I'd pull them like you did but then spray the roots you can't get being very careful but to get your flowers. Also don't oversaturate the soil as it could keep things from growing in other years.
