Today we're sharing some of our favorite booktube videos for the month of January. Enjoy! PS: If you're wearing headphones, you'll be able to hear our kids playing a serious game of tag outside. 🥴
Wow, thank you so much! What an absolute delight to be included on this list, and you’re making me blush with all those kind words. Also just pleased to be tagged so that I can discover your channel. Love this conversational set up and HELLO to high production values. I need to know your picture quality, sound quality and lighting secrets!
You are so welcome. It's been a our delight to have discovered your channel and we truly enjoy the may you present yourself and the way you talk about books and book stuff. I have to thank my wife for the the high production value. She has been doing RUclips videos on her Knitting channel @woolneedleshands for around three years now, and has found what works best. We like to use natural lighting but have begun incorporate an artificial stand light you see photographers use. We are still trying to figure out the best audio setup and have been playing with different things to find out what works best for us.
Thanks for the good suggestions! Two of my favorite booktubers are Willow Talks Books and Mike’s Book Reviews. Willow gives sophisticated, interesting reviews without spoiling books, and Mike is Gen X gold, lol.
Holy crap! Thank you for the shout, love how you said we were "gently irreverent" -- this might go on our tombstones. Subscribed & thanks again this was very kind. And real glad you picked up Lonesome Dove!
(Tayler here!) It’s our pleasure! You guys are fantastic. And honestly “gently irreverent” is offered as a huge compliment. We love how you balance the delivery. Very authentic and relatable. Thanks for the content Austin and Rich. We’ll be here watching. 🙌❤️
What!? Just woke up to this surprise! Thank you for this shout out! You two are so sweet shedding light on other channels! I’m honored my channel resonated with you. I just subbed to you! You two are amazing! I have to ask each of you: what is your favorite book and why? PS- love that you’re wanting to dive into D&D. It’s perfect for children. It encourages imagination, problem solving, and so much more.
Branden here, Thanks for the sub. My favorite book, is actually one I read for the first time recently, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. The reason it has become my favorite is because of my love of sci fi (huge Star Wars fan here). This hits the mark with sci fi, but also adds the realism of our world with a deep emotional story. If you haven't read it, I cannot recommend it enough.
@@GoodBooksLately love to hear it! I too am a big starwars fan. Speaking of that, a book series that popped on my radar: The Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio. Space opra. Star Wars. Dune. This series deserves a better comparisons than that because it stands on its own two feet. And the final book releases this year. Just a suggestion if you like Star Wars! I’ll give Project Hail Mary a look!
It’s truly our pleasure Thomas. We’ve really enjoyed your channel since we discovered it a few weeks ago so thank you for that. And the D&D video was great to watch with our boys. In fact we are hosting a bit of a starter D&D experience for Aengus’s 10th birthday coming up with the Adventure Begins D&D game. It’s like D&D lite and perfect for getting younger players used to the storytelling and dice rolling mechanics. I can’t wait. As for us, we look forward to getting our friends into D&D-proper as well. As for our favorite books; I (Tayler) am not sure if I’ve found my favorite yet. It’s so hard to pin down just one. However my love for historical fiction (current favorite genre) started with an early book by James Patterson called The Jester. Ok now, Thomas-I know you just finished your first play through of Witcher 3 (my favorite game OAT) and that’s great, but you NEED TO…nay…you MUST play the DLCs Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine (preferably in that order). It will round out your experience and take Witcher 3 from what it is in your mind now to something so much more memorable and impactful (I know. Like that’s even possible). Trust me. ⚔️
Funny on D&D - my son (now in his 50’s)had a geeky group that they were all obsessed - the rebirth - now him and his older brother(my oldest) have all gotten back into this, with his son, my grandson who, we found a store here in SC on one of his visits to me ,that has all of these implements - we found little characters and a shield to put up when playing -so, now his daughter and new sil - all together over the Holidays - had the games going - gives me a chuckle and memories of the “boys” in HS and before heading off to college.
Thanks for sharing! I love that y’all made the references that several of these creators come across as laid-back and approachable. I’ve always felt that way about your channel, as well as how authentic you both seem. Here’s a few channels I follow: Café au Livre, For the Love of Story, Lauren And The Books, McKenzie Kate
I really enjoy WhatVictoriaRead. She’s another UK booktuber, her channel is a charity channel (her Adsense goes to charity). She is a secondary school English teacher (11-16yrs) and reads widely. She does a monthly “wrap up” video where she reviews the books she has read and also inserts b-roll of her life outside of school and reading. It’s chill and cosy. It’s not one for people who are a stickler for a professional set-up, but a good one if you like someone chatting about books they have read in a casual way
Thanks so much for the recs! Here’s another suggestion for a possible future topic. “How to find a good local book club.” I’ve been involved with one at my local library and they are about to demolish and rebuild! So don’t know what happens to club. 😢 I like to be able to interact and discuss.
Wow, fun stuff here! You are the first "BookTubers" I watch. You have some fascinating suggestions! Trying to figure out when you guys sleep! Thanks for sharing!
About the 'pretentious' comment: This is how I think of it, sometimes I want to listen to a lecture and sometimes I want to listen to a friend. 🙂 Also- my hubby and I started playing dnd with our adult daughter and her friend a few years back. I can not recommend t-rpg's with your family enough! Shared story-telling is an amazing way to get to know and discuss deeper elements of ourselves. (We have another friend playing too now - so 5 total which is ideal.)
I’ve checked out a few book tubes and honestly for me, yours is the best. I’ll def checkout some mentioned today. ESP “What the Hell Happened to Fantasy!?” bcs for years I have pondered this, too. Loving “Adventures of Amina…..” loved “The Daevabad Trilogy”. Stunned I would have missed Amina Al-Serafi. Thank you 💙📚
You are so welcome! I really do love to watch your channel when I get to work and am setting up my classroom for the day. I find that your take on some books are very similar to my own. 😁
I only have a few favorites that I'm actually subscribed to, Book Blather, with Dave, Anda Kent, and Lydia at Typical books of terror. And a couple, what's their names...?🤔😬📚
If you're really wanting to get into D&D/RPGs, I'd suggest NOT purchasing the newest edition of the Dungeon Masters Guide, Monster Manual, Player's Handbook, etc. Start with those in 5e (Fifth Edition), because it's a fully developed / tested system, and it's much cheaper since they came out with the newest books. Thrift books is a good inexpensive source. 😁
Check out: Reading with a vengeance, Ink and Paper blog and Book chat with Pat. I picked up two great reads (Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane & The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey) after watching Reading with a Vengeance’s best 2024 reads video.🩵📚
Interesting but male heavy. I'll admit RUclips looks "young girls reading" heavy. Desperate for women reading content. I have a couple to watch but some come across too intellectual. You do a wonderful job as do other couples. Maybe that is the trick, couples talking books. Please don't say Chefs Kiss, so over used to look cool, cute, yada, yada, yada...I'm older so ignore if you want.
😂 Totally get what you are saying. We just find ourselves drawn more to laid back people with similar interests in books we like to read. And I think you are right that you tend to find couples are able to do a good job of coming off more approachable because they already feel comfortable around one another.
First you criticize that they watch more male reviewers, then say you want more "women reading content" and have found some but they're too intellectual (??), and then ask them to not use phrases that you find cringey in THEIR video. Maybe take a minute to think about whether or not what you comment is actually helpful or just a way for you to vent your frustrations.
Just last weekend I watched a great doco about dungeons and dragons called Adventure Never Ends. It chats to players and founders etc but also to young people and youth workers. Very recommended! I watched it on our free library movie and doco app called Kanopy.
Thank you so much for the shoutout! It's incredibly sweet of you guys to share my channel! And you made my day by thinking I have a background in film. 🥹 Films got me into books, and I love movies so much that I dressed up to watch the Oscars at home a few times. 😂 Thanks again!
It is our pleasure Dennis! We love your videos and I particularly love that you have dressed up for the Oscar’s. 🥰🥰 So good to connect and we look forward to watching more of your uploads. ❤️❤️

@GoodBooksLately oh also wanna mention Lit Vibes with Five. He hasn't posted in a few months but he's very fun to me bc he actually just got back into reading as an adult and is discovering so many books that a lot of us have already read or heard about it. It's kinda cool to see the stories through a new perspective. He reads anything and everything too! Also just a casual vibe

I've found so many good books recommended from Ben Reads Good!
For sure. That's what I love about this community. 👍
@@GoodBooksLately Exactly! Great video! Excited to check out some of these other creators
Thomas channel is a fantastic choice
DnD is amazing but it can also be a bit complex for young kids. You might consider a gateway game, such as Hero Quest. Great shout outs!
Awesome tip! We picked up the DND Adventure Begins game to get the boys used to the game.
Thanks so much! Really nice of you to share these recommendations.
