Tundo/Tundon might be from a Native Malay phrase" TUN DOON "(The King is there or King's Realm) because in Malaysia the reigning Royal Family uses TUN as the title for King of Kings.

Hi Kirby About the word Lusong, the nearest english translation I can think of is the word "DIP" (Slope) but not exactly, so when they say Lusong, they where talking about the dipping contour of the land area of Manila (Bay) because of the slope all the water collects to the area, you can imagine ancient trader seeing this from afar from their ships watchtower, it's more like a description of the land area than a name. it's meaning got a connection with water as well because water normally only flow one way downward on a slope (DIP) so "lumusong na kayo" is go forward, or just lusong is onward, "lusong na sa tubig, bukid, ilog, dagat" means take a dip in the water (down the slope), faddy field, river, sea. or depart to the river or sea on boats, ships etc. Manila Bay is a departure area no doubt.
Because Lusong is "DIP" TABO is lusong as well, the dipping shape of it (curvature) the big dipper in the night sky (constellation). The entire shape of Manila Bay is shape like a dipper as well (satellite view). The "Bayuhan at saka Dikdikan" is a Lusong as well because of the DIP, dipping characteristic of it. I'm not a linguist but I'm a tagalog speaker as a 1st language, these are my interpretation of the word "LUSONG" Luzon Maynila, the subject could be a good research to anyone, you never know what will come out of it, Give me a comment about the matter, many thanks in advance 😃. By the Way thumbs up to all your work "Good Job" Cheers.!! 👍👍😎✌.

Thank you Kirby! Meron akong favor about any information about my fathers' family history. I am descendant of de la Cruz-Trinidad-de Guzman of Manila (Tondo Manila)-Baliwag Bulacan-Pampanga. The only info that I'm aware of is from my father and I were both born and raised in Solis Tondo . My grandmother named Cristina deGuzman Trinidad (deceased when I was 6, my vivid memory of when me my father brought to Malolos Hospital) together with her sister (I only met her once, forgot her name she used to lived in Lico Solis when I was a kid) are siblings of Remedios Trinidad DRT.

You forgot to mention the participation of native Mexican Indians brought here from galleon trade. I think this is the reason why our leaders at that time was hesitant to wage all out war with Spaniards. Since were almost belong to same race we were called Indio, in new world they were called Indians. I think the word derived from India as group of people with dark-brown color race as described in Alexander d Great's conquer of India. Later it was interpreted as indigenous.

Empire definition itself is a bit tricky and it depends on the context as kirby has mentioned. Although, in political structure of both nations, kingdom of lusong and majapahit empire, the similarities in beurocracy, military, how far reaching and how deep your influences to the other states might be, can vary and could be debated. Did lusong succeded in forcing another polities to their knees? installed a proxy ruler? or even changed a nation's dynasty to better suit their interest or even to the point they replaced them all together with their own royal/imperial family members? how far their military might could reach? did other states aknowlged lusong hegemony to the point those state's soverignty was pretty much compromised, and only maintained a minimum autonomy regarding trade and succession? baring dan banning their own direct international relationship and sovereignty aknowledegement, giving both authority fully to the central imperial goverment? did other strong nations within their neighborhood such as siam, ming, yuan, or chola saw them as rival or equal? these amalgamation of achivements and complicated relations were the defining factors of how we loosely describe our understanding of what an empire means. And for what i belive, not even Malacca was included in this imperial category eventhough malaysian always refer to them as empire, simply because most of us see malacca's achievment was somewhat lacking compared to their northern rival (siam/ayutthaya), not to mention the reason behind malacca sutanate was able to be built in the first place, flourished and had stable soverignty, it was all thanks to the protection and aknowldegement of the ming imperial court.

and for adds, srivijaya did control other nations, especially their.gretaest javanese rival, the medang kingdom, or well known as old mataram. tanjung pura, and polities in malay peninsula, their naval might even burned the southern chenla, taking their prince as prisoner, and brought him to java, which in later years, he would reclaim his homeland and be procalimed as jayavarman II. so unless lusong had deep and strong control over others in a relative wider area demonstrated by srivijaya and majapahit. it was hard to call them an empire.

moreover look on LCI, even the rulers there invoke the authority of medang king, a vassal of srivijaya at the time, as the legitimazation over his ruling in tondo. See the difference now can you? Unless there are new evidences that Lusung achived such degree of grandeur, it will be hard.
but i'm not saying that lusung is just a trivial kingdom, no, not in the slightest, they were great on their own right, together with sulu, as hegemonies in the current philipine archipelago, that was why, majaphit even put seludong (luzon/lusung) and solot (sulu) as their main objective to be conquered. they were the main stronghold in the northern nusantara region beside temasek (singapore), pon-i (barunai/brunei), pahang, pasai(samudra pasai) and many others.

They're same but, lakan has more influence in religious rites because the lakan is King with Divine blood.
They believed the decent from a diwata.
Rajah is a king and it's originally a Hindu term, Mr. Kirby had video about, lakan, Rajah and datu.
