  • Cascara - Coffee Cherry Tea - First Time Drinking
Cascara is the dried cherry from Aida Batlle Selection's Award Winning Coffee For Home Coffee Roasters. This is the first time I have tasted the cherry from a coffee plant and let me say, it was not what I expected. I used a french press to brew my cascara tea or should I call it cascara coffee ? From the appearance of the dried fruit, the way it poured into the mug and the taste and mouthfeel, this was a wonderful experience. It has a surprisingly sweet, cherry wine like taste that reminds me of drinking hot cider type beverage.
Aida is a 5th generation coffee producer in El Salvador. She has won the "Cup of Excellence" award for her Finca Kilimanjaro coffee which we roasted and tasted last week. See that video here:
    • Aida Batlle Selection ...
Carcara means "husk" in Spanish. In today's video, we brew and taste the Cascara Indigo Reserve from Aida Batlle Selection.aidabatlleselection.com/ It is a coffee tea but it isn't made from an herb, rather the cherry portion of the coffee plant fruit.
There is more to this beverage than meets they eye so please watch till the end.

Another good video and very intriguing. I've seen and read about cascara but, not being a tea drinker, never had an interest in trying it. You may have changed my mind now, thanks. I'm still waiting for my shipment of coffee from Aida so maybe I'll get a sample. Something to look forward to, ha. I've been experimenting with cold brew and, so far, am liking it while I learn. It seems there is always something new to try.

Aida said you should receive a sample of the Cascara

You got me wanting to try this! Really wondering what it might taste like mixed in with some of the brewed, roasted coffee of the same kind.

Thanks for your comment! Yea, the Cascara is pretty unique. It has a heavy mouthfeel and is like drinking a warm cherry packed that is really inviting. Not sure how that will mix with coffee though. The Aida Batlle Home Roaster coffee is a slam dunk. It is a very good coffee. The Cascara sample provided with the coffee is a special treat!

I don't want to sound weird but I'm curious if it could be something you could grind up and add to the coffee grounds? Do you think the flavor it has could add to the actual coffee or take away from it?

Sure, there are already different “flavored creamers and syrups” you could add. The amount you add will impact the flavor and mask more of the nuances you might experience.

You shouldn’t press or anything on the scale or leave stuff on scale when not use, as it might effect the accuracy of the scale.
