I think this is how American company structures run. In think the in the British method the Chairman of the board is even higher than the CEO, and a Chairman can fire a CEO, but a CEO cannot fire a Chairman. I think this is what happened with Apple back in the day. I think Apple used to (or still does maybe) operate using the British-style company structure. That’s how Steve Jobs was once fired from his own company.
Btw, just because they are American schools of thought and British schools of thought in running a company, it doesn’t actually mean that all companies in America must use the American way, and all companies in Britain must use the British way. They are just names of different styles of management that developed in each country. But companies are able to pick and choose which style they want to run as, regardless of which country they operate in.

Co-Owner of a 110 employee specialty construction business. We’re hiring a company President, and he’s a close friend of my business partner. Am I setting myself up for a 2 vs 1 scenario ? Our attorney company attorney is filing the paperwork with the state later this week, and I’m a little skeptical about the relationship between my business partner/soon to be company President.

President is chief of the vice presidents.

The President is not necessarily the "chief" of the Vice Presidents in the sense of directly managing each one. However, the President typically has the authority over the VPs and is responsible for ensuring that all departments and functions align with the organization's goals
