Ahh, I haven't used my dip pens for 50 years. You have inspired me to get some ink and get busy.Thanks.

I'm old enough to remember having to use them in school. I could never get the hang of them and they used to scratch the paper but I love the look of the art they create.

I used to use these in school too! In a special calligraphy class though, but it always stuck with me.

I love dip pens. I have a collection of my favorites and I use a variety of nibs when I draw Copperplate letters etc.

I was admiring the artwork of a cartoonist and your video popped up in my feed, like it was reading my mind!

As a lefty, dip pens have been one of the most frustrating tools for me to deal with. It’s smear city!

I'm a lefty, too. If you turn your wrist to write under the line, you won't smear or smudge. I've had no problem with rollerballs, fountain/dip pens, etc. It's easier on my wrist, as well. But it essentially requires you to change the whole way you write. That said, I still haven't mastered the Noodler's flex nib or certain brush pens!

Another lefty here. It isn't much exaggeration to say that my life has been one long quest for the "perfect pen" to draw cartoons with, and I grew up with the idea that dip pens were the only true tool for the pros. Unfortunately I struggled and spattered and scratched with dip pens, never comfortable drawing the ovals, curves, beans or circles which are the cartoonist's basic shapes. But I still give them a try now and then! Spoiler: the best pen for me is a fountain pen with a soft nib, with some line variation but also some tipping at the point for a smooth flow that won't "dig in" to paper. Can't use actual India ink with fountain pens, but there are some good, waterproof black inks for them.

@@danmagoo It's interesting to hear from other lefties what their experiences are with different tools and mediums. I haven't done any drawing with dip pens, only calligraphy. The paper "dig" is real!
