In German, there is a formal and an informal word for "you". When they sit in front of the commission at the end, it struck me that the superiors used the informal "Du". No Sir, Mister or anything, it's almost as if they called him "bro". And that's the biggest compliment, you are one of us now!

Within many special forces they stay informal and like family but ranks still matter.

0:40 The masks are for the protection of the KSK soldiers involved, who are also on active duty.
Otherwise they could become victims of hostage-takers or their families, as they also operate behind enemy lines. Their operations are often secret and are sometimes very dangerous.

Yes, the training goes near to torture but don't forget this are military special forces on par with the Navy Seals, GIGN or the SAS. Also, these guys are volunteers, both in doing military service and doing the test/training for the KSK; these guys knew what they were/are signing up for. ^^

The Seals are nothing compared to the german KSK, aswell as the British SAS and GIGN is a police force, not military so no you ain't got no clue man

@@masterofhonor1041 you seemingly lack in grammar, as they are milit. forces on par with the examples given, no one stated that the examples are military forces ... the rest is your opinion, have fun and try to smile once in a while
(+ both police and military are executive organs, one for the inner and one for the outer enforcement of policies, in my humble op.)

@@BR618 You seemingly lack in basic understanding. You can't compare a police unit with a military unit or do you think a poilce forces is trained for war-like conditions or crisis areas? No they're not🤣Furthermore you should know that the Navy Seals are a so called Tier 2 Force, which for an example means they can't save hostages by themselves. A Tier 1 Unit like DEVGRU, GREEN BARRETS, SAS, KSK can do sum like that. So maybe inform yourself a lil better before you try to act tough around others

BTW: wasn't the GSG9 (Police) founded due to the terror attcks at the olympics '74 in Munich and are trainded for antiterror and hostage situations, as well as the KSK ...

@@BR618 Look man if you're not capable of handling facts just cuz you're wrong, thats your problem. And yes it is but as I already said... you can't compare a hostage situation for an example german held hostage by isis in Afghanistan and a terrorist group holding people hostage on a german airport or sum. Thats two completely different things

Note how not a single one of the selection staff screams and hurls abuse at the men. German and in a wider sense European special operations forces want personnel who have enough intrinsic morivation to complete their tasks. If you need somebody to motivate you besides yourself, special operations forces aren‘t for you. As an aside, the KSM (German naval special operations forces) are treating their aspirants exactly like this, too.
Another thing: The chairman of the final selection committee is the then-commanding officer of the KSK himself, a brigadier general. He addresses the selectee in front of him with the familiar "du" form of address, which between an NCO and a flag officer is extremely rare. This shows the man that he is part of the family now.

I was just a private (corporal) in the German army. Once, and luckily only once, we had a 36-hour exercise. We hadn't slept for just over 36 hours and after that I was completely exhausted. All I wanted to do was sleep and that's what I did. What the soldiers, even those who didn't make it, showed in the video was great. I wish the German KSK all the best.

I was officer in the German army and we had the so called "Einzelkämpferlehrgang", a one month long high intensity training, which includes a lot of SERE training of special forces.
It has a so called "hunger week", where you have almost nothing to eat (except of 2 bouillon cubes and a small pack of biscuits for the whole group) from monday to thursday (which is the so called slaughter day, where you learn how to slaughter and cook fish, chicken and rabbits). I lost 10 kg in that week.
And the final exam begins on monday at 4 am and goes until wednesday noon without sleep (you don't have anything to eat, as well, but that's the least of your problems in this exercise) and a route of about 70 km and full equipment. All of it in winter with deep snow.
Seeing this video brings back all the memories, because a lot of it was part of our exercise, as well, for example, we had to swim through a lake with our equipment just like them at -15 C° or the carrying of "wounded" soldiers, the running (at the end of the exercise, we had to make the obstacle course with full gear again and again, until we weren't able to move anymore).
Of course this KSK-hell-week is up another level, but I am a little bit proud, that I passed the "Einzelkämpferlehrgang" and got even the badge.
It changed a lot about my mindset. Because if you think, that you're body can't anymore and it is at its limits, everything is hurting and burning, you're not even close to these limits. These mental barriers are only there to prevent damage to your body.

The hell week is the aptitude test, only then does the real training begin and it will take more than two years. Then comes jungle fighting and how to survive there,Parachuting, diving and much more, this serves for the specialization of the individual soldier.

I live in the area where they held this Hellweek. This is public land (partly) and the woods are in the Black Forest. I've hiked there often enough myself and it's often very uphill and downhill. So even as a normal hiker with little luggage, it was exhausting!

Hell week or as someone from the French Foreign Legion would say: A quiet, relaxed week.

    • @bjorndebar8361
      @bjorndebar8361 2 месяца назад +7

The Legion is not a special forces and I would argue that the training of the KSK or other special forces like the Seals from the USA is tougher. The KSK or the Robben would 100% have no problems with a legion exercise. The reason why the Legion is considered very tough and good is due to its long missions, including in war zones. With the ksk and the seals, the missions are rather short, in and out again, but guaranteed to be fatal.

I had only 3 days and 4 days in the Forrest with other tasks, but that was more than enough for me since I was only doing a year. It was a special company and they r a bit crazy there compared to others in my country. (We never go to a war, so it’s just a formal duty, I just did 4 month extra to get a higher rank in case of an natural emergency they also could call u)
