I'd much rather have the guaranteed 1st round pick... as much as it pains me to say that.. All of this young energy on the team and we're playing hockey that is definitely playoff caliber... but we've all seen this movie. SOMETHING will override a proven system, and they'll screw the pooch... then have no 1st rounder....
Don't get me wrong.. would I love to see this team rally? Fck yes... See young guys carrying pace whilst giving vets time and space to do their thing, leading to everyone creating chances? absolutely... Guys like Rakell, Smith, Bunting, and Karlsson go on their own respective rippers and hitting closer to their peak potential, if even just for a small spurt that could cement some more lucrative ice time, points wise? I don't think it's impossible....
But likely? EHHHHHHH...
Pains me to say it but... Put in the young guys, see what you've got finish in the bottom 10. get the draft pick... what we've been seeing is an entirely different team that's been carried by a combination of young legs and veteran hockey sense...

What a win for the pens, just like they're only 3 pts back of WC2 and 4 pts back of 3rd in the Metro! It seems like they have stepped it up for Crosby. Big game for them coming up against the caps, a direct rival in the playoffs race.

Redwings and Islanders are ahead of the Pen's so they need to basically win 4 out of their last 5 games and hope all three of those teams flounder. Possible? Technically. Not going to happen though.

@Siksdev Pens and Detroit have the same amount of games played at 75. Pens have the tiebreaker at 29RW to 26RW. Pens play the Red Wings 3 games after the Caps. We'll see.

New Jersey managed to Penguin themselves out of two points tonight. It’s weird being on the good side of it for once.
Actually both first goals were lousy for the goalies. The second goal tipped higher on the Meier slapshot goal

By scoring his 83rd point tonight, Sid actually set the bar a little higher, becoming the only player to have 19 consecutive seasons scoring more than 1 point per game. A pretty cool little feather in the cap for Sid!

Devils are first in the NHL in giving up the most first goals of a game, and blowing the most multi-goal leads. Not something to be first in. Playoffs are pretty much out now and time to regroup. New coach, new goaltending, new attitude.
Defense the biggest issue. Hamilton injured + Graves & Severson traded away has had a huge impact on defense. Luke and Nemec are great to have but two rookies can't be your top horses if you're trying to get to the playoffs.

I think Malkin found his second gear again thank god. he looked really good at the start of the year, but he went through a humongous slump. He seems to be playing a lot better as of late. Crosby doing Crosby things as usual. He has been on a tear

When malkin is on his game, he is one of the best in the league. His line mates seem to influence this alot too.. Bunting and rakell are good matchup
@@entheogenocide Malkin at his peak was probably one of the most unstoppable forces the nhl has seen and most certainly in the salary cap era. I hope he continues this level of play because they will need all of that and more to get to the postseason
He was saddled with playing with the ultimate stiff (Smith)...once he got a real player on his line (Bunting) he woke up
